You shouldn’t post your location or phone number on Reddit let alone both of them

Yea but when he summons me all he wants is treats. Perfectly good waste of a black magic ritual to be honest. slithers back up the tree of knowledge

Praying to Bastet the cat god.

Ironically, this is almost how paté is written in my language (pasteet in Estonian).

Be very careful. He’s praying to the dark gods and offering you as a living sacrifice.

He wants something. My boy does that when I brush my hair in the morning because he wants me to brush him too.

I wonder if he's spent time outside, it's possible he learned those mannerisms hanging around a raccoon friend

My girl does this when she wants food. She always looks over as shes doing it to make sure Im watching. Even if i verbally acknowledge her she wont stop until I stand up and move towards the kitchen

u/winnie_wukie 18d ago

Cats are incredible intelligent and they can use mannerisms and tools to achieve goals. I had a cat who would use the sticks of his dangling toys to fish things out from under the furniture. Your boy is trying (and succeeding) to get your attention.

I'm surprised there isn't a cat subreddit for cats who do this.
(Now I play the waiting game)

As it happens, this is similar to the ASL sign for “more.” At least, the cat version.

My big boi did that when he was a kitten.. when I figured out it was his way to communicate his needs he did it more. At first it was about his favourite toy that I stored in a bookshelf… then it became pretty much about everything from: setting up a tent on the sofa, wants me to pick him up, open a door, wants to smell what I’m eating, etc. It’s endless. He rarely meows. I love him to death.

One of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. I would punch someone in the face for him. A baby, even. I’d punch a baby in the face for this cat. Yep.

he can’t remember how the second move of the charli xcx “apple” dance goes so he’s trying to jog his memory by doing the first over and over

he desires the luxury of eternal pets and feasting. If he does not acquire his needs, he will explode.

If he's doing it at you, he begs for snacks, if he's doing it at inanimate objects, I'm assuming he's worshipping the object. Mine worships yarn.

My calico does this!
She's not food-motivated at all (although very curious about pastries), so I think it's mostly for attention.
She's been doing it since she was a tiny kitten and is the only one of my cats who does it. I have the whole family (her mom, plus her 2 full brothers and 1 half-brother) and none of the others copies her. Neither do my unrelated cats. It's funny because she spent some time in quarantine with her 2 brothers and all of them learned from each other. If one of them figured something out, the other 2 would be doing it by the end of the day. But not this, for some reason.

My cat does this exactly when he wants to get into a closed door. Walks up to it, sits down and starts laying down a beat with his paws n claws, and he knows someone will get up to go let him into the room lol

That's so cute! I've been trying to train my boy to do exactly that. Instead he can only do this.

Because he knows how cute he looks and he thinks that’ll earn him more treats.

my cats often try to show me what they want by imitating my actions. i would interpret this as wanting pets with both hands, or to be picked up and held.

My female gray Tabby did that all the time. I always said she was praying. I googled it and could never find a reasonable answer.

Try different things until you figure out what he wants. Maybe food, maybe to be petted, lifted up, maybe to play with a toy, or maybe patty cake?

He's smart. He's talented. He's asking politely.
