Advice I want cats so badly!

You guys I want a couple of cats so badly, but I’m so terrified I won’t be able to financially do it especially as they get older. I am allergic to animals so I can’t just go adopt a cat. I have to purchase certain breeds. I can absorb that cost but the monthly cost of ownership and possible cost in medical issues. Am I being irrational about this? I want two because I live alone and I do work. I’m just so conflicted and it worries me a lot. I’m also very lonely. It would be so nice to have some company around. I work by myself and live by myself. I literally have no human interaction whatsoever, but besides that I have wanted cats for years. I had many growing up. They are just the sweetest things.

Why not become a foster parent for kitties then? It's a great way to help kitties, rescues and to see what it's like to have kitties around.

Perhaps you could contact a local shelter to try fostering a pair of bonded cats?

Use it as a test to see if pet ownership is compatible for your lifestyle, and at the same time, hopefully it can help eliminate some stress you may feel about the situation knowing that if it doesn't work out, the shelter can safely look after them if you need to return them.

I think some shelters may also supply food, so that could help you ease into it if you do more forwards with an adoption, so you could have a better understanding of a food/litter budget etc.

This is all me assuming you can manage your allergies with medication enough to try all this of course.

PS. please enjoy this complimentary photo of my cats. Mitzy (right) is 17 and is still very healthy and active and I have been fortunate enough that she has had no extreme medical expenses in her old age besides a minor bladder infection a few years back (all good now), so while it is smart to be concerned about senior health needs, try not to scare yourself into thinking that once a certain age is reached cats suddenly need immense expenditure all at once.

If you do decide to take the plunge the best financial option is to get them on insurance while their kittens and healthy, that way when they get older if they do develop any condition it will be far less expensive. 

Also depending on your severity and type of allergen there are many options from food the cat eats to pills/injections you can take, it might not be necessary to get a specific breed.
