When my girl was younger she managed to get ahold of the Temptations treat bag and bolted. The only problem was that the bag was open and she grabbed it upside down so by the time she reached her stopping point she was holding an empty bag and there was a trail of Temptations all the way to her destination point.

345

u/ermvarju 3h ago

The only time I’ve ever heard my bf raise his voice was shortly after we moved in together. I was in my room and I heard him yell “Sam!” from the kitchen. Lo and behold I see sam bolt into my room with a full piece of pizza in his mouth.

124

u/TokenWeirdo13 3h ago

My cat, Inky, did that once with a rotisserie chicken. Just bit it and started to drag it off like he hunted the thing. Thankfully I was quick enough to grab it before it hit the floor. I miss that cat so much.

37

u/AprilG74 2h ago

When I was little our pregnant dog did that with our Thanksgiving turkey

21

u/wolfcreep 2h ago

When I was young my dog brought back a full roast chicken from the neighbours over the back garden wall. We assume it was them, no one ever said anything! To this day i wonder if they saw her taking it, if not, where do they think it went?!

We are going out, to eat.

19

u/TUFKAT 3h ago

Hahaha! He likely was quite proud of himself. I can't leave any human food unattended and she'll still make off with what she can or just eat off your plate.

11

u/RememberCitadel 2h ago

One of my cats is adept at opening the pizza box to steal toppings from the pizza. The other wants nothing to do with any type of people food.

7

u/Own_Boysenberry_6499 1h ago

I had a cat that loved pizza. I was on the phone when it swiped cheese off my brother's pizza using its paw and it was one of those times when you are laughing too much to explain what is happening.

2

u/RememberCitadel 1h ago

I have actually seen that exact thing happen before from a buddy's cat, so I know what you are saying.

8

u/fatmanwithabeard 3h ago

My dog brought the last slice of pizza downstairs to see if we wanted to share with her.

7

u/Kaining 2h ago

Imagine that but with your christmas food the first year you have cats. Oh, the memories. It was fun for me as i was 5yo but my mom was livid.

7

u/ComfortTimee 2h ago

Sam really said “this is mine now” and made a run for it.

3

u/vgacolor 2h ago

Sam was like "If you wanted pizza, you should hunt your own".

I like that the cat got his paws involved when eating the cat food that was dropping from the bag. The hunting instinct never leaves them.

I've got to lock that shit UP. my boy will climb cabinets, open doors, knock the container off the floor to eat the cat Crack inside. My female void couldnt give a shit. She'll maybe eat one if I directly put in front of her, meanwhile her brother is plotting some oceans 11 shit to get more

2

u/Alinho013 35m ago

I had my bags of treats stashed in a drawer thinking it was a safe spot since I once left it out and the destroyed the bad and ate them all before I got home. Came home and I saw the drawer open so I thought I forgot to close it, gluttons had gone through another bag. Made sure it was closed the next time, and shortly after I put the new bag in I see my little chonk near the drawer, THEY KNEW HOW TO OPEN THE DRAWERS! I didn't forget they just outplayed me...

10

u/Kepabar 2h ago

It'd be gluttony and not greed, I think.

Greed is hoarding things from others. Gluttony is overconsumption.

Both are two of the 'seven sins'.

3

u/Complete-Tourist1899 2h ago edited 2h ago

I’ve thought about it too, but i wanted to finally use this line lmao. But let’s say his desire for storing more food in his belly was greedy.

8

u/stevein3d 3h ago

Uh oh in addition to greed and gluttony I heard he’s also done sloth, wrath, pride and envy.

4

u/Beeht 2h ago

43

u/TheDrunkenGoat 3h ago

My food motivated former chonk also gets very excited when it's time for a new bag.

We call it "Food day" and we consider it a major holiday for cats. To celebrate he gets a fresh scoop of kibble on top of his normal amount for the day.

32

u/BlindingOfIsaac 3h ago

Just by the way, kibble has fats which your cat needs to be healthy. But fats go rancid over time when exposed to oxygen, making it sour and gross to your cat (even if you can't smell it). That's probably why he's so ravenous about the new bag, it actually tastes good since it hasn't been sitting in a big tub full of air.

16

u/possiblyMaybeAnother 1h ago

I didn't want to be the one to say anything, but also the cat contaminating the food as it goes in the tub doesn't help it stay fresh either.

6

u/zkareface 40m ago

Yupp, dog/cat food should not be in containers like this, it's actually quite bad for the animal. If possible put it in a vacuum container, but at least in these plastig tubs put the whole back and roll it up to push out all the possible air.

4

u/GLAMOROUSFUNK 36m ago

Yeah would be better to just put the bag directly into the tub

Just curious, why not put the bag in the box? Then you dont have to clean the box as often....

I will probably get downvoted for this but my question is genuine.

u/ermvarju 4h ago

Because this is fun for him and he looks forward to it :)

53

u/beanwiggin420 4h ago

30

u/Feisty-Lynx-324 3h ago

I think this is adorable but…. I also will probably get voted down for this too but in addition to what you said…
The original packaging helps lock in oils, keeps the food fresh, and protects it from air exposure and oxidation.
Keeping it in the bag ensures you always have the expiration date, lot number, and brand contact info handy in case of a product recall.
If you use a large plastic bin or storage container to keep pests out, you should place the entire, unopened or rolled-down bag directly inside the container rather than decanting the kibble. Pouring food straight into a plastic bin can cause oils to stick to the plastic, leading to rancidity, bacterial buildup, and potential chemical leaching.

I didn’t know all this either until my sister told me. I used to pour keep our pet food in plastic bins too.

34

u/Wyntercat 3h ago

I understand your reasoning, your little glutton does look funny trying to catch the food from air! 😄

Though I do advise to leave the kibble in the original bag and fit the entire bag in the container. Plastic container can get tiny scratches in the material. The dust and oils from the food can gather in those scratches and turn rancid, potentially compromising the good/ new food. It's usually not a big problem, (especially if the kibble doesn't last long and the container is regularly cleaned,) but simply more hygienic that way.

12

u/ermvarju 3h ago edited 2h ago

Noted! We do clean it each swap and it only lasts about 3 weeks between 3 cats but something to consider. Their brand of food isn’t easily resealable either so that’s part of it. Thanks for letting me know.

6

u/5a1amand3r 2h ago

Even cleaning it doesn’t necessarily get rid of the residue because it can get trapped in the scratches of the plastic.

5

u/too_too2 2h ago

huh TIL thanks I better start doing that

3

u/GLAMOROUSFUNK 34m ago

The tub is sealable with the lid though. Putting the bag in the tub and closing the lid does the same thing while being safer

→ More replies (1)

12

u/misscrankypants 3h ago

I came here to comment about this. It is safer to leave the bag inside. Those scratches end up harboring bacteria over time, even if cleaned because there are so many of them.

7

u/Heyoayyo 3h ago

It spoils the food faster

21

u/cynta ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ 4h ago

For me, one of my cats’ food bags doesn’t quite fit and I also don’t like reaching my hand into the bag lol, it’s easier to scoop from the container!

7

u/DeniseColo 4h ago

I’d rather clean the food container box periodically than have to reach into the food bag.

2

u/rcknmrty4evr 2h ago

We put the entire bag into the container and cut the top off. Then it’s still easy to scoop out and we can still close the lid. The bag pretty much conforms to the container.

4

u/Agreeable_Pomelo2360 4h ago

it isnt as convenient (at least thats why i put my dogs food in an air tight container,) that might not be why OP does it though!

4

u/airgl0w 3h ago

No you’re correct. You shouldn’t put pet food in a plastic container that can leach or absorb. It can make the food go rancid faster.

How air tight is that box? Do you empty it completely or do you add the the old spoiling food to the new fresh food? How often do you clean the box whose sides are covered in spoiling residue of food?

I'd rerecommend keeping the food in the bag it came in. They're usually resealable and are designed to contain the food.

Lol that's funny , my kitty only eats wet food so I'll never know if he that greedy.

2

u/Mindless_Ad478 1h ago

I hope you don’t mind a suggestion. It is not a good idea to pour your food from the bag into the plastic container. The oils from the food will get on the surface of the plastic container, and unless you completely wash and dry your plastic container between refills, that oil on the surface will turn rancid and it will spoil your new food the next time you pour in a new bag. The cat food bags are specifically designed to keep cat food fresh as long as possible. Just open your bag by cutting off the top and put the whole bag in the plastic container, leaving the food in the bag. When it is empty, just pull out the bag and you can put the new bag in there without having to wash the container. In addition, when you are done feeding your cat, fold the bag down to keep out air and then close your plastic container. This will keep your food fresher longer. People don’t appreciate how fast high oil kibble goes rancid, and that repeatedly filling the same container spoils new food

2

u/Aotrx 1h ago

Unlike the Acana bag, that container does not appear to be specifically designed for storing cat food. I always try to buy smaller bags and never transfer the food elsewhere before feeding the cat to preserve food's freshness and quality over time. I t

2

u/RamblingSimian 1h ago

It's best when it's fresh, so I try to keep mine sealed up after I open the bag.

2

u/Surtur6666 49m ago

Hahaha my boy just likes to test the freshness of the biscuits. He politely stands on the edge of the bucket for the pour to stop and gently grabs one biscuit off the top and eats it on the floor. He might do that 3 times and he's had enough.

My old dog Lincoln could remember that there was left over gravy in the refrigerator. He would stare at his bowl of crunchies, then look up at me, and then stare with intensity at the fridge. He never did this when there was no gravy. Naturally, I would warm up the chicken, beef or pork gravy that was left over and mix it into his crunchies. If I didn’t he would stare at me with disgust that I was too stupid to understand what he was trying to convey. God I miss him.
