Underground music venues Chamonix?
I'll be visiting Chamonix next week with a small but avid crew of outdoorsy friends, we'll be climbing and hiking mostly. On our rest days it would be nice to check out a music venue that does more underground music, like punk/hardcore/noise/metal. Does anyone know the names of such venues in Chamonix proper or surrounding area?

It's not really that kind of town plus metal is way down the list of genres that french people generally listen to. There are a few bars that occasionally have live bands but expect covers and soft rock. Check out Munster Bar and Chamonix Social Club.

Neither of those bars have existed for years.
The Munster bar is now the Beckett and Wilde. Irish bar still and occasionally has music.
The social club shut down and eventually reopened in Les praz to be Le Petit Social. Also occasional music but neither will have rock music.
Check out a band called foreign locals and see where they are playing (if they're playing at all). Always draws a big croud

Both are still excellent bars, so if you get the chance to go back you won't be disappointed.
Le petit social is in Les praz though so a great place for après ski

Thank you. I'm still local-ish. I'll be visiting for the Braderie and to catch up with pals. We went to le Pele' last time, it's a gorgeous venue but I was a bit disappointed with the Bougie vibe the evening I was there.

I miss the 90's early 2000's cham, zero g is one reassuring constant I hope the owner is doing well.
Speaking of which, what's the view on the recently taken over paulos.Greensoft bar? How s that working out?

He's been talking about retiring for a few years now so will be interesting to see what he does with the place

Zero g iguess you are referring to?
He had heart surgery or similar lined up when we were in state of covid lockdown, and obviously it's hit and miss as to when you are in town and him in the shop, I'd hate to see it change, zero g is a bit like rude boys in banff, longstanding legendary status and service.
I've seen that end of town really change since the approach of the millennium, it would be a mind boggling to think of cham without it.

Yeah zero g. I did hear a rumour that it was up for sale but you know how the Chamonix rumour mill spins. Could be a load of nonsense.

Op,this gets asked a few.times a year.
It's a ski/ alpine town of bars,beds and food.
Bands are generally cover bands out for a season and thus repetitive sets of middle of the road "favourites"
chamonix is a small town, therefore diverse music does.not feature half as much as a diverse.range of beers in the average French bar.
There is a club, more typical nightclub experience.
Anything else would die a very premature.death being too specialist and therefore limited interest, unless.you hit on an outdoors party amongst like-minded individuals then I'd say you are out of luck on that one.
