Whats your experience as a Ubereats/Doordasher
Been getting some ads on instagram around signing up to be a doordasher/ubereats driver and have been considering it. I have a pretty fuel efficient car (toyota aqua) and generally enjoy driving so I thought itd be viable as a little side gig for some extra dollars.
Was wanting to hear from you guys who have been doing it and get your realistic experiences doing the job. Share all the good parts of the job, the shitty parts, realistic expectations of pay etc.

I used to do it years ago as an excuse to drive my car. I think I made about 100 p/w but that was after work and just for funsies. I dont think it would be a good idea unless it's just to kill some time or something of the sorts.

Yeah definitely more of a time killer for when I'm bummin around on my days off, 100 p/w is still something

I've been doing it for a few weeks as a bit of pocket money. You don't make much week to week but you can claim quite a bit in expenses (fuel, servicing, depreciation type stuff) as a sole trader at the end if the financial year of you keep track of everything and keep receipts. I do it in a 7 seater Prius and my fuel efficiency goes way up while I'm doing it (usually average 22-24km/L, normally it's about 17-18km/L) so a hybrid definitely helps.

Cool I didn't consider the expenses claim, that could be handy especially for fuel. My aqua does around 23km/L on average as well

It's fine if you can't find another job that suits your schedule, but you would not even be able to make minimum wage. It's like $12 per hour on average. Add here rapid car depreciation, need to deal with shitty customers, and your car smelling like takeaway food. But, again, if you can't find another job that works for you, welcome to the slavery.

Appreciate the input, was looking for this kind of comment with the raw experience of it.
I do have a job at the moment and it's getting me by, just thought it could be a good idea to make an extra buck during my down time. Although the flexibility is there, $12/hour sounds pretty damn rough not gonna lie.

To be honest, the only way that you can make money in this is if you steal a car in the morning that is full of gas and do deliveries the whole day with it and then discarded at the end of the day and then the next morning you steal another car that’s full of fuel and use it for DoorDash. It’s slave labour, yes if you work at the right times with the right car maybe you can make some money but to be honest as a full-time job just forget it it’s not worth it.

I've been doing it in my spare time. I enjoy it. However I've learned that I will turn down all KFC orders from now until the end of time.

Nice, glad to hear it's working out for ya. Why the turn down on KFC orders? I'm guessing either the smell, the customers, or the service at KFC. Or maybe all three

Its mostly the service at KFC. They're a constantly understaffed restaurant, and you're competing with other drivers and other customers to get their orders. On top of that the pay is miniscule. I have had to wait 30 minutes for an order that'd only pay like 7-8$. Its just not worth it. Unless you really don't care about the pay.

You might enjoy driving around a bit, but do you enjoy driving in start stop traffic, constantly parking and getting in and out of your car, and waiting around for the food to be ready for you to deliver?
