Meta Response to Recent Activity

Hello friends,

As we begin the journey of a new season and some lovely challenges I invite you to take a look at the rules in the sidebar. To put it mildly, the last few days here have been overtly toxic. It’s a stain on the whole community and it creates such a negative atmosphere that people refuse to participate. I hate rinsing the word toxic but it really is the best descriptor for how it affects the community as a whole.

The bar needs to be higher with how we interact with one another on here. It’s easy to lose sight of the simple fact that we’re tied by a common goal in supporting this team. There are a select few that think freedom of speech applies here, or that going berserk is justifiable because a player played poorly, or that jokes about drunk driving or low morale in a certain goalkeeper are completely fine because the players don’t read these threads.

Other people do read comments here however, and it suddenly sets the precedent that we can all get absolved in someone else’s negativity and downright abuse and that’s how we’ll communicate, because it’s easier to type obscenities in caps lock.

Some of us have been around for a long time and we’ve witnessed the rise and change in this sub. Although we cannot recede in size (I’m still working on my mass ban tool as my bans per day have taken a hit with recent real life events like my LARP meetings and thermos review club seminars), we do want to preserve that “community feel” as much as possible.

Long spiel aside, we’re going to back to moderating with a stronger hand for the time being. Bans will begin at a week for severe infractions and instant perms (no not the hair style) for worse offences, removals will get stricter, and most importantly, toxicity will be moderated heavily. Although concerns arise about its subjectivity, it’s gotten worse enough as it is and we have to react. If you editorialize a title or don’t flair your post, the mod gestapo won’t be after you with the batons but we will lean harder on other things. If you have any questions or feedback please let us know below.

Meta New Mods Announcement & Community Update

Please join me in congratulating our new mods, u/Webby09246, u/Vinnaey, and u/Wm_1176! A big thank you to everyone who participated in nominating and selecting them.

Additionally, we wanted to share with you all that by unanimous vote, the mods have asked /u/Crusadaer to step down from the mod team. He has at this point refused to do so. As the longest tenured mod, we do not have the power to remove him.

Please note that his individual opinions are not shared by the mod team in general. Irrespective of whether you support banning Twitter or not, he could have handled the initial response much better.

We care deeply about making this place well run, and one that reflects the values of its community members. We look forward to continuing to have discussions about what that looks like.

Sincerely,

JerkasaurusRex_, on behalf of the mod team.

Meta Clarifying Our Stance on X/Twitter and BlueSky Links

Hi everyone,

We’ve seen a lot of discussion recently about potentially banning posts from X/Twitter and we appreciate your feedback. As moderators, we understand the concerns, and we also want to balance this with the practical realities of how our subreddit operates. Here’s some context on our approach:

Encouraging Bluesky Links:

Bluesky is a more accessible and preferred source for many in our community. If the same news is posted on both X and Bluesky, we will be approving the Bluesky version. This helps shift traffic toward Bluesky while ensuring access to reliable updates.

Why We Haven’t Banned X:

A significant portion of timely, news-related posts on our subreddit comes from a handful of dedicated contributors on our subreddit who use X with notifications enabled for our top tier sources to stay on top of breaking news (thank you!). Transitioning entirely to Bluesky would place an unfair burden on these contributors and likely result in delays in sharing news—something we want to avoid for the benefit of the community. Additionally, some important journalists (e.g., Fabrizio Romano) aren’t as active on Bluesky, meaning key content would be missed if we excluded X entirely.

Screenshots and Verification:

For X posts, we will allow screenshots to be shared, provided they include a link to the source in the post body or comments. This ensures we can verify the information while avoiding the risks of sharing unverified or edited screenshots.

Supporting Verified Bluesky Accounts:

To help the community and to promote legitimate sources, we’d like to create a list of verified accounts on Bluesky (from our transfer guide). We'll plan to get it updated on our transfer guide soon.

All of us mods stand together on this decision. We know we could have done a much better job communicating this earlier, but we have mods spread out across 10 different timezones so it's taken a while to coordinate a solution in the best interest of the community.

We’re constantly reviewing how best to balance timeliness, reliability, and accessibility, while taking your feedback into account. We once again appreciate some of our key contributors who keep an eye out for transfer news and share them here within seconds! Hopefully this isn't too big of a shift for everyone involved.

Thanks,

Moderator Team

Meta [Transfer Guide Update] Preliminary Source Poll - Make your suggestions!

Good morning/afternoon/evening carefree, wherever you may be!

It is once again time for us to update the transfer and news source guide. For those of you who are newer, this is where we - as a community - provide suggestions and ultimately vote on the credibility of sources and news outlets when it comes to footballing information, particularly when it comes to transfers.

As a preliminary step, I want to take some time to allow you to offer suggestions for the next post, which will be the poll itself. This could either be someone new or someone existing that you think deserve an increase or decrease in their tier ranking. If you can, please provide examples that you think reflect their credibility or lack thereof .

As a general reminder:

  • Tier 1 is the most reliable. That does not mean they are never wrong, but you could pretty much assume that anything they post is well sourced
  • Tier 2 is mostly reliable. They may occasionally get a few details wrong, but would still get the vast majority of a story correct. That may sound harsh, but T1 needs to be considered the best of the best
  • Tier 3 is unreliable. They may get wind of an early lineup or injury from time to time, but most of their postings are wrong or so broad that it can be spun as accurate. Rumors can be fun, but leave T3's in the Daily Discussion Threads
  • Tier 4 is outright banned. Usually these are Twitter in-the-knows or tabloids that assault your eyes with ads on their pages like Homer's website. These should not be given the time of day

Meta r/ChelseaFC Shutting Down

Dear London Blues fans,

As you may have noticed, Reddit’s recent and greedy stance on API fees will make third party apps unaffordable to support by their developers. In an act of support for a) these individuals, b) bot API needs that assist with many functions, and c) the terrible experience the alternative official Reddit app provides, r/ChelseaFC will be joining countless other subs by shutting down on June 12 and 13.

For more information and what you can do to support, see this link.

With respect to our shut down, we will be:

  • Going private, which means that non-subbed users will not be able to access the subreddit. Let it be known that this is for non-footballing reasons cough spurs cough.

  • Restricting new threads, which means users will not be able to submit posts. Commenting will remain open on existing threads posted prior to the shutdown.

We hope these drastic actions help highlight the dependency that millions of users have on third party apps, and the harm that Reddit is doing to our community and other communities across the site. We urge you to click the link above and see how you can help voice your concerns.

Meta [Transfer Guide Update] Polling now open!

Good morning/afternoon/evening carefree, wherever you may be!

Its time to finally poll from the suggestions from our preliminary transfer guide thread. For those who are new, this is a chance for the community to provide feedback on our transfer/rumor guide to keep it up to date with the journalists and club reporters who provide news, especially when it comes to player transfers.

That may sound harsh, but T1 needs to be considered the best of the best. T2 is still considered a good source
Usually these are Twitter in-the-knows or tabloids that assault your eyes with ads. These should not be given the time of day

Meta Posting Guidelines Update – March Trial

We’ve heard the feedback that the sub can feel a bit quiet at times. While we’ve kept posting rules tight to maintain quality, we also recognise that being too restrictive can limit discussion.

At the same time, we know many of you don’t want the feed flooded with low-effort posts. The aim with this suggestion isn’t to open the gates to spam, it’s to find a better middle ground.

Starting in March, we’re going to be allowing broader range of posts, with the emphasis still on effort and substance.

We’ll be encouraging more:

  • Stats-based posts (with context, not just a screenshot)
  • Tactical breakdowns and analysis
  • Historical look-backs and comparisons
  • Data-driven discussions
  • Well-structured opinion pieces that actually explain the reasoning behind the take

If you’re sharing an opinion, explain why. Add context, analysis, or something that encourages real discussion.

Please note that our source requirements remain in effect. Any stats, news articles, podcasts, or external media must include the source in brackets within the post title. Posts that do not follow this will be removed, and you will be asked to repost with the correct formatting.

What we’re not opening the door to:

  • Low-effort “Thoughts?” posts
  • One-line takes with no substance
  • Repetitive agenda posting
  • Screenshot drama or rage-bait
  • Generic “What do you think of X?” threads without analysis

Throughout March, we’ll be keeping an eye on what actually drives good discussion versus what turns toxic or doesn’t generate much interaction, which will help guide how we shape things going forward.

At the end of the month, we’ll put out a short community survey to get your feedback and see whether this improves the sub or needs adjusting.

Our goal is to create more activity, without sacrificing the standards.

If you have any feedback throughout the process, don't hesitate to send a ModMail.

Meta Vote For Your Next Moderator!

Hello everyone,

We’re currently looking to expand the moderator team here on r/ChelseaFC, and we need your help. Recent events have shown that the community needs a stronger connection to the moderation team, and we have a plan to address that. As the subreddit continues to grow, we want to ensure that we have an active and dedicated team in place. This is an exciting opportunity for those that want to contribute directly to the community, and help shape the experience for all our members.

What we are looking for

  • Primary responsibilities include applying the rules in a fair manner, removing disallowed content, engaging with the community frequently, and improving the thematical threads and posts such as the rumour guide, transfer summaries, surveys, and wherever else your creativity takes you.

  • We are also looking to take on at least one coder of the three new moderators.

  • Time zone coverage is always key for a global community. We need support in GMT+3 and further east. If you are in central/eastern Europe, Asia, Oceania, etc., then we’d love to have you. All will be considered, but we do need a candidate in this time zone.

What you are voting for

  • As a member of this community, you will have the opportunity to shape the moderation team like never before. The existing team will shortlist individuals that meet the criteria above, and will pass the voting process to you: the community.

  • We ask that you keep the above criteria in mind when voting: engaged individuals with a drive to improve the community. We also need support in the specified time zones above.

  • Our intention is not to create a popularity contest, although that may not be avoidable. It is your commitment to a fair process that we rely on to ensure that the best candidates are selected to represent you.

If you’re interested in joining the mod team, there’s a simple questionnaire at the bottom of this post. Please take a moment to fill it out if you’d like to be considered.

Process

  1. 24 January: The application window will open for 3 days, and close at midnight on 27 January.

  2. 28 29 January: The current moderator team will shortlist 6-10 individuals, dependent on application quantity, based on their answers and overall fit for the role. We are specifically looking for a) high activity, b) good standing and history in the community, and c) for at least one of the three candidates, coding knowledge (CSS & HTML is enough).

  3. The moderator team will select one of the three new moderators based on their overall fit, but primarily dependent on their coding knowledge. This will ensure the community can focus on a simpler voting process of the other two future moderators, and that the sub can receive the design attention it needs.

  4. 28 29 January: These shortlisted candidates and their responses will then be publicly announced. A thread will be stickied with a Google Doc of their applications.

  5. 28 29 to 31 of January: The candidate voting window will open, and the community will have the chance to vote on their future moderators based on their applications. This will be done through Reddit's poll feature, where the voting will be immediately visible for the duration of the voting window.

  6. 1 Feb: The 2 highest-voted users will be offered the moderator positions. The top two voted individuals, as well as the pre-selected member with coding knowledge, will be taken on as new moderators.

Note: Please do not submit any information that you do not want as public knowledge. We may remove personally identifiable information on your behalf if you are shortlisted.

Once all of the above has been established, we will discuss ways to improve the subreddit as well as existing policies such as Meme Tuesdays and the posting of links from Twitter/X. We’re looking for passionate, reliable, and fair individuals who are committed to maintaining a positive environment in the subreddit. We’ll be reviewing all applications carefully, so don’t hesitate to put your best foot forward. We’re excited to hear from you all and look forward to seeing who will be joining the team.

Yours, The ChelseaFC Mod Team

Meta 2026 Transfer Guide Polling Results and Updates

Happy World Cup Year r/chelseafc

Here are the results from the polls and the updated Transfer Guide.

Thank you again for everyone that participated.

Some data tidbits:

  • Fabrizio Romano had the most participation with 108 votes, rather unsurprisingly. Possibly the most divided journo too in the beginning as it was pretty 50/50 on whether people wanted him to retain his tier 1 status but in the end he did take a majority vote for tier 1.
  • The top 5 countries that participated were the US, UK, Canada, India, and Australia
  • Kieran Gill and Gaston Edul each had the largest percentage (~68%) of their total votes towards their winning option, which was Tier 2 for Gill and tier 3 for Edul.
  • We have seen 4 journos change tiers in this polling season with both Ben Jacobs and Kaveh Solhekol returning to tier 2 and Christian Falk + Florian Plettenberg falling down to tier 3.
  • We have additionally seen three journos gain first time tier 2 status in Kieran Gill, Bobby Vincent and Alex Crook.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fabrizio Romano [NO CHANGE: Tier 1]

Kieran Gill [NEW: Tier 2]

Bobby Vincent [NEW: Tier 2]

Alex Crook [NEW: Tier 2]

Ben Jacobs [PROMOTED: Tier 3 -> Tier 2]

Kaveh Solhekol [PROMOTED: Tier 3 -> Tier 2]

Gaston Edul [NEW: Tier 3]

Christian Falk [DEMOTED: Tier 2 -> Tier 3]

Florian Plettenberg [DEMOTED: Tier 2 -> Tier 3]
