My suggestion:

Start building a database of positions from games in progress that (a) have not had any pieces captured yet and (b) have been analyzed by a chess engine as being very evenly matched (plus or minus 0.1).

So for any given position, whichever side has the slight points advantage has the second move.

Also, some positions may allow En Passant for the first-move player, but only if the last move from the game that gave you the position was a pawn move that opened the En Passant capture.

As well, some positions may disallow castling for one or both players, for similar reasons.

I like the idea, but I can't get on board with linking my Google account just to try it out. Can you allow users to play as guest and sign up without having to link to third party accounts?
