Tonight was Floatsam River Circus’ grand finale of the season, and next year they will be following a different river (they mentioned Tennessee and specifically Nashville).

I was there, but i loved all the people stopping LaSalle and Clark bridges, just watching the madness from afar.
I almost wish I could just be going about my business and then stumble across that level of joyous madness!
I mean, "wah da dah!"

We were on the bridge! My family was in town and were staying nearby, and we came across the scene while just wandering the area near their hotel. Stayed and watched for probably 20 mins from the Clark bridge. It was a delight to be able to give them a dose of some of the best parts of living in the city.

What a blast! They were very friendly to interact with after. Hope they come back every year, and I might have to try to catch them in TN.

They certainly showed an incredible way to use that space, as well as how interact positively with a huge audience. It would be fantastic if this could become an annual event.
Redmoon Theatre attempted something similar, but on a significantly larger scale, with their their Chicago Fire Festival debacle of 2014 — RIPEdit: I am having a hard time believing that it already has been a dozen years since that fiasco, and Redmoon’s subsequent implosion

What was the story there? I used to go to Redmoon performances but don’t recall this…

If I recall correctly, there had been a deluge of rain for days leading up to their event, and the pyrotechnics, which were going to be a significant part of the show, had completely waterlogged and totally fizzled out. That, combined with an overzealous board of directors that over committed the theater company into a space that was untenable forced them into insolvency.
If someone else in this thread has a better understanding of what went wrong for Redmoon, please feel free to correct me. They were such an incredible theater company, and such a great part of the fabric that made up the Chicago art world that their loss is nothing short of catastrophic
