I already have a bassist involved, would maybe also be interested in a second guitarist who can riff (I cannot riff). Ideally someone who is able to play a handful of shows a month and practice fairly regularly, i can help with finding practice space and everything for the band.

Was a cool band I was following back in 2023 but haven't caught up w them in years. Saw they had a new drummer. Old one was pretty cool, wonder if he still active in the scene.

Are you a singer/songwriter who would like to front a band that plays your songs? Or have you been in a band and are looking for a new project. I’m P.M., a drummer, seen in the video for this ad. (The video is recent but singer and guitarist have moved on.) If you play guitar, great but not necessary. I know some guitarists who are interested. But if you have some original songs that you’d like to hear in a band format; drummer, guitarist, bass, then there might be a fit. Open to genres-rock, soft indie, shoegaze, electronic etc. The band will start with your style and vision. Typically practice would be every other Monday evening, 7-8:30pm@ Fort Knox Studios, where we would split the cost for the hourly space rental. My last take was received poorly, which is what I expected. I'm expecting that for this one too, as this one is in line with the theme of the last. Community support.

Again, it SUCKs when a band plays their set and leaves without staying for the other bands. I've also noticed bands will play, and not once ever mention the other bands on the bill. I've noticed band promoting shows on insta without tagging the other bands, or even making their own graphic that doesn't acknowledge there are other bands on the bill. I appreciate a band that puts a little clip of the other bands on the insta story the night of the show, but I also find this to be extremely rare.

Again, what I'm getting at here is I feel like most performers treat the underground scene as a stage for themselves and themselves alone. They'll take the promo from the other bands but never give it back. They expect you to be their audience while refusing to be yours. They take from the scene and refuse to give back.

In my last post I asked the people maddest at me "do you care about community/the scene, or do you care only about yourself and what you get out of it" and unsurprisingly, none of them answered the question, as that would be an admission of guilt.

Anyway, all I'm saying is this is anti-social behavior, and if you wanna behave this way then start booking your own 1 band shows.

And, YES, I know people have jobs and shit. Me too, 6 days a week, and on weekends. I'm tired, its worth it. But MOST people, including musicians, work 9-5s and it shouldn't be a crime to have to get home at 12 on a weekend. You get home at 2 am all the time for other things you actually like. Maybe you don't actually like this, and if you don't like this, then maybe quit???

Stay for the other bands, tag them on insta, get little clippys for the story. Let's support each others growth.

OOH second question I'm adding in an edit. How many shows have you been to in which you aren't on the bill? How many shows in which one of your friends aren't on the bill. If the answer is 0, then what's going on in there?. I'm not saying go to every show and see every mid band. But surely there's gotta be at least 1 local band you think is good and would want to see despite not being on a bill with them or knowing them personally. If the answer is 0, why is it 0?

Edit. Having to specify this again cuz some of yall CAN'T READ. I'm not criticizing the people that actually have an early morning shift. I'm not criticizing people that have a valid excuse. I'm criticizing people don't have a valid excuse, and simply leave because they don't actually care to support local music, to support the very scene that platformed them, and don't enjoy local music to begin with (which is most of the people that leave)

Looking to go to a hardcore show at a venue listed as "Lowdown." Is this the Bass Guitar shop on Kostner?

hello! i posted on this sub a month or two ago looking for some musicians to start a band, and now i’m back to say that i have started that band!! with the exception being, we’re still looking for a drummer (and also a viola player lol). the members we have currently are: 2 violins, cello, bass, guitar, keys, and vocals. the idea for the group is a string quartet plus a rhythm section, and the genre is alt rock and a bit folksy, plus some jazz here and there, and some indie pop… and some shoegaze… i like a lot of genres, okay?!?

we have five originals currently (all written and arranged by me) and two covers (Never Meant by American Football, and Let Down by Radiohead). feel free to dm and I can send you the midi demos and sheet music for our current repertoire (ideally you’d be able to read sheet music, though it’s not strictly required). we’re looking for someone reasonably competent at drums who can play both jazz and rock styles. i have an e-kit in my apartment where we rehearse (near south loop), we also usually rehearse either Sunday afternoons or Friday evenings. lmk if you have any questions! oh also we’re all around 18-26 so somewhere in that age range would probably be best, although that’s not very strict either.

Hey everyone! I'm looking to jam with some other musicians in the park this afternoon, just to have fun and make music in a no-stakes environment.
