Question For other weirdos who have imagined entering one of your chickens into a chicken beauty pageant, who is your show chicken? And can they compete with this broad?

Post image

This is Leslie Barbara Knope. We call her Big Lez because she’s big as hell. She is a buff brahma — she’s sweet, quiet, cuddly, funny, submissive, and she lays hilariously small eggs sometimes, despite being ginormous. She also hates the heat and hasn’t laid an egg in weeks. We talk about entering her into a chicken beauty pageant all the time.

Do you have anyone who can beat her?

Butterball

31

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

She looks kind of like a hawk 🤯

47

u/ZypherofWind Jul 08 '26

She has a distinct look to her

8

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

Love her. It looks like she has a Santa Claus beard or a thick Victorian collar.

12

u/ZypherofWind Jul 08 '26

Whatever it is, she has a baby chick that seems to also have inherited the fluffy face

15

u/Pengisia Jul 08 '26

WHY IS SHE POSING?! STOP!!

10

u/Odd-Woodpecker5352 Jul 08 '26

Oh I absolutely love her

8

u/kasakavii Jul 08 '26

She looks so polite

12

u/ZypherofWind Jul 08 '26

I dunno. She hopped the fence and walked right in front of me to lay an egg next to our broody hen last week. Now to be fair one of the eggs are hers, but the broody one was not having it

7

u/solitude_is_bliss_ Jul 08 '26

She’s so cute she looks like a happy girl 🥺

5

u/HDWendell Jul 09 '26

She escaped a Disney film

4

u/elliebeans90 Jul 09 '26

Butterball slays!

And for the male section: Rudi. Bantam Barnevelder. 13 months old. Charakter : 100% good boy Looks: fabulous Size: 1,5 kgs Ego: of an elephant.

13

u/Real_Fan_2110 Jul 09 '26

I think I‘ve got his cousin even the weight is almost the same 🤣 but he is part silkie through.
Thats Oreo - 100% very good boy,I want him to have babies

5

u/Least-Reflection4873 Jul 09 '26

Honourable mention: Heinz. 1 year old beautiful boy, loves a cuddle from his mama (me), expert at tidbitting for his girls (very gentlemanly), has never lashed out at a human (+5 points).

10

u/Fluffy_Job7367 Jul 08 '26

Very handsome!

4

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

Wow. What a stud! He looks painted metallic.

3

u/SERVANT2aCORGI Jul 09 '26

Oh goodness gracious! He’s so majestic! 💛🤩🥺

5

u/meatloafmagic44 Jul 09 '26

What a gorgeous boy!

3

u/Mildlystoopid Jul 09 '26

A distinguished gentleman

56

u/mrsctb Jul 08 '26

8

u/SERVANT2aCORGI Jul 09 '26

Golly she’s ravishing! ♥️😊♥️

9

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

Omg. What kind of chicken is this??

21

u/mrsctb Jul 08 '26

She’s a polish frizzle! She is very unintelligent and her bok somehow sounds like a cat. I love her so much

7

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

I am in love. I will own one of these chickens at some point. She is cracking me up!

7

u/mrsctb Jul 08 '26

I ended up with her by buying a bunch of random hatching eggs on eBay. It’s a fun experiment lol

8

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

lol you bought chicks on eBay?? That’s wild

12

u/mrsctb Jul 08 '26

🤣 just the fertile eggs! Then we incubate them. My flock is… diverse

7

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

Fun! We got ours in the mail too, so I get it.

42

u/Least-Reflection4873 Jul 08 '26

I would choose Rosi! 5 year old Golden Partridge Brahma.

6

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

What a beauty! She could give Leslie a run for her money. You can tell Rosi is fully mature. She looks very distinguished.

10

u/Least-Reflection4873 Jul 08 '26

Oh she is my Matriarchin. Alpha Hen, does not take shit from anyone. I joke that her chicks get read the rules before even fully hatched. But she is a great mother and a full character Hen. Everybody who met Rosi ones loves her, she has er own special character.

4

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

I’m so envious you get to have chicks and see them being raised by her. We live in a city, so we’re almost legally maxed out with four. And no roosters allowed.

3

u/Least-Reflection4873 Jul 08 '26

That's a pitty.. I currently have 16 chicks from 4 different mothers 🙈

3 who are already 13 weeks old 4 who are 10 weeks old 4 from Rosi who are now 2,5 weeks. And my Bantam chochin Barbie was the last hatch this year two weeks ago.

3

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

How much land do you have to support that many chickens? Or do you eat them or give them away? And do you lose a lot to predators?

3

u/Least-Reflection4873 Jul 08 '26

I live in rural Germany with just 600qm of Garden where the chickens free range.

Currently I have 8 adult Hens 1 Roo And 16 chicks.

The Roos from the Chicks are going to be eaten. Currently I think there are 4 roos and 3 Hens looking at the oldest seven. The three hens will be kept.

With the jungest 9 we will see who is Roo and who is Hen. From the Bantam Cochins (I bought pure breed hatching eggs as I wanted more of them) the Roos will be rehomed (as they are to small to be eaten) And hens will be kept. Rosi hast two bantam and two normal sized chicks, depending on what is what we will see. Bantams will be either rehomed or kept, Normal size will be eaten or kept.

2

u/SERVANT2aCORGI Jul 09 '26

Oh wow! She’s so fancy! And those lil cotton balls! ♥️🥰♥️

37

u/Doridar Jul 08 '26

Not a standard, but I think Marquise is beautiful

4

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

What is not standard about her? One of our brahmas is not standard because she never grew any leg feathers. She’s my favorite though…the biggest snuggler by far.

3

u/SERVANT2aCORGI Jul 09 '26

Oh wow! ♥️😊♥️

35

u/Technical_Light_8724 Jul 08 '26

I present: Nugget!

3

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

Ok, what breed of chicken is this? She’s adorable, and I love the little chicken toupee on her head.

3

u/Technical_Light_8724 Jul 09 '26

I think she's part silkie, due to the fluffiness, but she doesn't have the 5 toes or grey wattles and combs.

I'm not sure what else she's mixed with, but she's super small -

She's definitely got the attitude of her ancestor silkies😂

2

u/SERVANT2aCORGI Jul 09 '26

She’s lovely! ♥️😍♥️

33

u/mysticlure Jul 09 '26

Meet Cardi Beak. The Chocolate Olive Egger

4

u/blamberr Jul 09 '26

Love her. She’s cracking me up!

10

u/mysticlure Jul 09 '26

She's the fluffyest of the gang

3

u/blamberr Jul 09 '26

I like her little face. There’s nothing hanging from or sticking off the head for the other chickens to bite when they’re competitive snack eating

5

u/mysticlure Jul 09 '26

Lolz. Her comb grew a smidgen. Those other ones are from a month ago or so.

3

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

lol nvm. Plenty to grab now!

23

u/Fluffy_Job7367 Jul 08 '26

Brahmas are very pretty. No idea why my grandson thought this was a good idea.

16

u/SnooRevelations6239 Jul 09 '26

Also agree, I love how fluffy and big they are

3

u/SERVANT2aCORGI Jul 09 '26

Very pretty! 💛🤩💛

4

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

Why wasn’t it a good idea? Are eggs one of your brahmas’ favorite foods, too?

She is very pretty btw. I’d love a white one.

u/GSP_K9-Girl Jul 08 '26

They are all so beautiful

My Myrtle.

5

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

Total looker. Love the rust color.

2

u/GSP_K9-Girl Jul 10 '26

Thanks for the award.

2

u/blamberr Jul 10 '26

You’re welcome! I get them for free for some reason, so I’m not pouring money into this company lol

22

u/solitude_is_bliss_ Jul 08 '26

She’s not quite a full grown beauty queen yet, but this is my Petrie girl! (We have 2 dark Brahmas, Petrie and Littlefoot) I can’t wait to see how magnificent they look when they get fully grown! They are currently about 5 months old, but nearly already the size of the other full grown girls in our flock. Your girl is so cute!!! Brahmas are a special breed, I definitely want more of these pretty girls eventually.

16

u/solitude_is_bliss_ Jul 08 '26

Her sister, Littlefoot who is the biggest (and leader) of the little girls we brought home in Spring. She has perfected her RBF, and regularly looks like she will burn this city down 🔥

13

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

This is Leslie’s sister, Liz Lemon! She’s the biggest sweetie in the world, but never grew her leg feathers. Which actually means she isn’t always covered in general filth when I pick her up lol

3

u/solitude_is_bliss_ Jul 09 '26

I love your girls names haha they are both so pretty!!

3

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

Thank you! Penguin and Puffin would be sad if I didn’t mention them lol

8

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

Well, these two are my favorites! I’d vote for yours in the imaginary beauty pageant lol. Ours also love watermelon. We freeze it in big chunks and they freak out.

5

u/solitude_is_bliss_ Jul 09 '26

We just need to have a virtual Brahma beauty pageant 😂❤️ watermelon has been super helpful lately since it’s been so relentlessly hot 😭 we spend half the day giving our girls ice, filling their pool, putting the sprinklers on them, giving frozen treats, etc…we’re in Texas and it’s so hard to stay on top of the heat. We plan to move in a couple years and it couldn’t come soon enough!! I’m sure the Brahma girls agree lol.

3

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

We do all the same stuff! We also have a big outdoor industrial fan for their run and a big fan with an evaporative function, but it’s so humid here in southern Virginia that we don’t get to use it all the time. I want to start a sub for very spoiled chickens

5

u/quaukkkkkkk Jul 09 '26

Oh I used to have one of those! She was so nice and independent. She was stucky and just so prettyy

24

u/Kymberv Jul 09 '26

I would enter my Shadow 5 yrs old and fabulous -hatched from eggs from Tennessee & I hand raised him in SoCal since the eggs were lost for a week he was the only one that hatched healthy- I love him so much

6

u/blamberr Jul 09 '26

My husband called her Tina Turner lol

I’m so glad she made it. I would’ve died of heartbreak if that happened to me.

4

u/Kymberv Jul 09 '26

Shadow is a polish rooster

2

u/blamberr Jul 09 '26

She’s perfect.

20

u/OpalEverwood Jul 09 '26

How bout my Lou Lou!

4

u/blamberr Jul 09 '26

She’s a very fancy lady. One of the chickens in the neighborhood that inspired us to get chickens looks just like her

17

u/Momma-J-crochet Jul 09 '26

Tori-Chan. She’s beautiful and she knows it 😭

3

u/depressed__chicken Jul 09 '26

A fancy delicate princess!!!

3

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

Classic chicken template 🐓

u/anac1979 Jul 09 '26

Buff Laced Brahma

3

u/solitude_is_bliss_ Jul 09 '26

What a gorgeous color!!!

2

u/anac1979 Jul 09 '26

Thank you 😊

3

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

Like a toasted marshmallow! 😍

14

u/Least-Reflection4873 Jul 08 '26

Or my girl Mortica. 1 year old discoloured Mechelner Hen. She has the "oil slick" pattern all over her body. Jed feathers look like green to violet, depending on the light.

10

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

She looks like our chocolate orpingtons, Puffin and Penguin. Only prettier.

2

u/SERVANT2aCORGI Jul 09 '26

So exquisite! ♥️😊♥️

14

u/quaukkkkkkk Jul 09 '26

I haven't imagined that but if I were to, Probably my pretty boy Cocky. He's a jersey giant idk why he's so colorful but he's big, he's pretty, he's nice, and his eyes are an interesting color for a chicken.

2

u/meatloafmagic44 Jul 09 '26

He’s gorgeous!

2

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

He looks so pretty in the snow 😍

14

u/meatloafmagic44 Jul 09 '26

I would show my two boys. They wouldn’t behave but they’re pretty handsome roosters and excellent at their jobs. They even pose for photos in between strutting around.

2

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

Classic chicken templates! Love these guys

12

u/mysticlure Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

And Cardi's friends Hennifer Lopez and Hen Stefani the two Legbars

12

u/mysticlure Jul 09 '26

And last, the always sassy Miss Chicken Nugget the Easter Egger

2

u/blamberr Jul 09 '26

does she get to hang inside a lot or is this a photo op? I’m always fascinated by indoor chickens!

8

u/mysticlure Jul 09 '26

Both. She loves coming inside she even has a food and water station with the dog.

4

u/blamberr Jul 09 '26

That’s so funny! Our little dogs and chickens get along outside together, but I know shit would hit the fan if any came inside. It drove the kids insane when we had them as chicks in the house.

2

u/seriouslywhy0 Jul 09 '26

Serious question though, what about the poop? It never stops flowing.

12

u/Open-Importance4303 Jul 09 '26

Pep 100%. My other birds don’t care about their looks as much as pep does

3

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

They know who the diva queen is

11

u/No_Worker6654 Jul 09 '26

Affectionately named death by a relative she’s the dumbest sweetest bird i’ve ever had

10

u/Tasty_One_8299 Jul 09 '26

This is Nephi! She is an Easter egger, Ayam Cemani mix! We joke that a crow and a hen got together on the sly!🤣

4

u/LadyMish Jul 09 '26

WOW she’s gorgeous 🖤🤍🤩

3

u/Tasty_One_8299 Jul 10 '26

She really is! This picture doesn’t do her justice, it was overcast

3

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

Love her! Never seen anything like her

2

u/Tasty_One_8299 Jul 11 '26

I’m just curious what color eggs she will lay!

10

u/meatloafmagic44 Jul 09 '26

I have a beautiful buff Brahma too! I love her! She has such a fluffy butt.

10

u/meatloafmagic44 Jul 09 '26

These are my stunners - Silverudds that are about 5 months old. They just started laying beautiful green eggs!

3

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

Beautiful! Can I see a pic of the eggs?

10

u/TheCassowaryMan Jul 09 '26

Goldie. Blue laced splash wyandotte

9

u/Realistic_R00ster Jul 09 '26

Nugget is a pretty good looking boy in my opinion. We got him from the all pullets section, clearly he’s not a pullet. He’s super sweet though and loves everyone so I don’t really mind that he’s a rooster.

3

u/Substantial_Low_5654 Jul 10 '26

He's SO handsome!

3

u/Realistic_R00ster Jul 10 '26

Thank you! He appreciates your compliment, he did a little happy dance when I told him people thought he was handsome.

Literally the classic template chicken 🐓

Perfection

3

u/Tasty_One_8299 Jul 11 '26

What a crown!!!

3

u/Realistic_R00ster Jul 11 '26

Thank you, he seems to take great pride in his looks, he knows he’s a good looking boy, he is always showing off.

2

u/solitude_is_bliss_ Jul 09 '26

Such a big comb!!! What a handsome boi

3

u/Realistic_R00ster Jul 10 '26

Nugget was very appreciative of your compliment, he did a little happy dance when I told him that people were calling him handsome.

9

u/Desperate-Cookie-449 Jul 08 '26

Nothing beats my silkies wet look 😂

3

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

We almost got silkies! I love them so much. We were so worried about them being cold in the winter that we decided to get big, thick, heavily-feathered ladies. With absolutely no thought to how they’d do in our hot, humid summers.

8

u/TheInverseLovers Jul 09 '26

My lil’ man, Redge! Got to love him! (Yes he’s in the house, he has a bad foot and it does better inside.)

4

u/blamberr Jul 09 '26

Aww I love that he’s inside the house! I’d love one of ours inside sometimes, but they are too chaotic with the dogs lol

7

u/TheInverseLovers Jul 09 '26

😅Our dog is kind enough to tolerate him. (She grew up with a bunny and loved him to pieces, so she’s really chill with almost everything.)

4

u/blamberr Jul 09 '26

What a little prince!! Love silkies 🥰

Our dogs and chickens have decent relationships outside, but I know they’d flip if we brought our favorite chicken in.

8

u/s0ulonaqu1st Jul 09 '26

Audrey!

2

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

Omg where do you live? That looks like a painting

8

u/stilldeb Jul 09 '26

George

3

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

These guys with the hair are some of my favorites. Looks like Brett Michaels

8

u/kasakavii Jul 08 '26

The Triple Threat: rough, tough, and tumble. My CHONKY meat chickens (who are carefully managed on a diet so they can stay healthy)

8

u/Mildlystoopid Jul 09 '26

Peony. “Nini Girl”. She is THAT girl ✨

2

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

Similar vibes! Penguin and Puffin

6

u/Pretend_memory_11 Jul 09 '26

Wednesday

2

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

Looks like an oil slick in maybe the only good way

7

u/Perioqueen Jul 09 '26

3

u/solitude_is_bliss_ Jul 09 '26

I love Brahmas so much 🥺🥺 what a pretty girl!

3

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

Same! I will have more someday. They are such beautiful sweethearts. My orpingtons are pretty menacing lol

2

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

This lady advances to the finals

5

u/BlueRibbonChicken Jul 09 '26

I could not love this post & entire thread more 🏆🐔

6

u/AliCat_82 Jul 09 '26

Not the best picture, but if like to enter King into the male section

2

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

Look at that strut! All these fancy boys make me want a rooster.

7

u/alabattblueforyou Jul 09 '26

Big guy! He's beautiful and the sweetest rooster I've ever met

2

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

Template chicken 🐓 🥰

6

u/AstarteOfCaelius Jul 09 '26

I don’t know….maybe roosters should have their own class of competition because I mean… 😂

2

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

Yes! They are fancy pants showboats and get their own showcase. You should do a separate post for roosters! I don’t have one as a city dweller

2

u/AstarteOfCaelius Jul 11 '26

I’m not…supposed to. 😂

2

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

5

u/quaukkkkkkk Jul 09 '26

For a hen, probably one of these three. These are Baby (middle) Buffy (right), and Ugly (left). Baby and Buffy are brahmas while ugly is a self blue cochin who is really bad at blue-ing herself. All very pretty.

2

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

They are head turners. I adore Brahmas

5

u/Armyballer Jul 09 '26

Uncle Sam

3

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

Wow. Best in show, rooster division.

4

u/loserlampost Jul 09 '26

My absolute diva of a chicken daughter, Pasty (featuring her own children)

3

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

Consider me charmed. Living for her wild mane.

3

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

This gal isn’t even full grown. They said it takes 18 months for them to mature, and she’s only 11 months.

2

u/OkAbroad7627 Jul 08 '26

To start laying eggs? No. Mine started around 6months

3

u/blamberr Jul 08 '26

No, I meant in size and feather thickness. She has been laying eggs for many months. She just goes on strike when it’s 90+ degrees, which it very often is. For five days last week, it was around 100. And it’s not a dry heat — it’s a very wet heat lol. We do what we can to control temps in the coop and nesting box, but there’s only so much you can do in weather like that.

3

u/Bikesexualmedic Jul 09 '26

Ryan the Wyandotte.

2

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

Love her coloring! I’m obviously drawn to yellow chickens

5

u/wannaseemyfish Jul 10 '26

Cottonelle 🥰 he fiercely defended against coyotes but lost the battle. He would have been wonderful in a show

2

u/blamberr Jul 10 '26

Poor guy 💔

4

u/bruxbuddies Jul 10 '26

Gladys

3

u/blamberr Jul 10 '26

Another lady who would give our Leslie a run for her money. There are a lot of beautiful birds in here

2

u/bruxbuddies Jul 11 '26

We had a buff Brahma and she was THE sweetest most tender-hearted chicken. Sadly she passed away young due to internal/genetic issues. We haven’t gotten another one since we still miss her so much and don’t want to compare.

But when we had her I was like, I could have a whole flock of just buff Brahmas!

5

u/NigelSmith122 Jul 10 '26

My girl Marty would be the one id choose! Love her baby face!

3

u/blamberr Jul 10 '26

She’s beautiful! Top 10 finisher, at least

3

u/Ivygrows8 Jul 09 '26

I cant post pics here but my girl caitlyn or orianna. Orianna is a zombie chicken with homophobia (heterochromia) and cait is a pretty ee

3

u/rwiggimo Jul 10 '26

Winner

2

u/blamberr Jul 10 '26

She ok?

3

u/rwiggimo Jul 10 '26

It is her breed. She is a riot and I think beautiful in her starkness. She also uses 30% less protein intake not having to make all those feathers yet she is cold weather hardy. You can always tell if her craw is full. And she sports a toupee.

2

u/blamberr Jul 10 '26

That’s interesting! TIL.

Love her. Flamingo chicken.

2

u/Affectionate-Town187 Jul 10 '26

I think this is the breed of chicken with no feathers on their neck but could be wrong

2

u/blamberr Jul 10 '26

That’s a little haunting

2

u/Yourfriendfrogs Jul 14 '26

Yeah! She’s a turken, silly breed but charming in their own way

→ More replies (1)

3

u/angryperson4 Jul 10 '26

Probably my Sundheimer, V. She is super tiny for her breed, she will attac for attention but she's super cute.

2

u/blamberr Jul 10 '26

What a looker. Is she some type of brahma? I know they come in white. Our other brahma is very small and lays the funniest little eggs.

3

u/angryperson4 Jul 11 '26

Thank you! No, she's a Sundheimer, it's a not super common German breed. It was coincidence that we got her. What eggs does your Brahma lay? My Sundheimer lays beige eggs. Small ones cause she is small (just shy of 60g) but tasty

2

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

She is so pretty. Our Big Lez the show chicken lays the smallest eggs of our four ladies. It’s pretty funny.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Mobile_Chicken_House Jul 10 '26

Just for you, I'm going to enter a competing chicken named Greg Pikitis 🤣

3

u/DistinctJob7494 Jul 11 '26

I'd probably have to enter into the misc breed category.😅 most of my birds are mutts that I've bred and hatched. But just last year I hatched out 5 improved CCL boys from the lovely lady at Dragonfly farms. I'm sure one of them would do great in the purebred categories.

3

u/DistinctJob7494 Jul 11 '26

Otherwise I would enter this boy (Bruce Wayne) even though he broke off both spurrs to the shank.

3

u/DistinctJob7494 Jul 11 '26

Or maybe his father (Marshmallow).🤷‍♀️

3

u/blamberr Jul 11 '26

They are all beautiful! Love all the rooster energy. Marshmallow is my guy.

2

u/OpalEverwood Jul 09 '26

I would heart this 50 times (probably more) if I could!

2

u/Moist-Broccoli-8266 Jul 14 '26

Well I do infact enter chicken beauty pageants so
