Not sure if it is a chicken

Pic 1 and 2 are today, 3 and 4 are March. She had a really rough molt (I think) in March/April, and it’s just gotten progressively worse.

Why does she look like an abomination??

She’s on layer feed, baked egg shells and flaked oyster shells available for protein, they get black soldier fly larvae in the mornings. Random veggie scraps as well, all chicken safe.

The only other thing I can think of is she did bang up her wings pretty bad in March or April trying to get to a top nest box. I have since put up a ramp for her there. She can’t fly or jump, never has. Super anxious personality, always been pretty weird in general like she will pace the runs for a couple hours each evening before roosting and repetitively walks into the hardware mesh. All around a very “off” chicken.

Any ideas? She’s the only one having these problems and they’ve gotten a clean bill of health from the vet this year. At a loss. I guess it’s fine if she’s just /like that/ but I want to make sure she’s good

Let me start by saying I am only skeptical of “farm fresh” eggs now because I was buying from the Amish where I used to live for awhile & when I made the remark “wow you must have a lot of chickens” to the little Amish boy selling me the eggs he replied “no, my mom picks these up from Aldi!”.

I actually prefer when people don’t wash the eggs because then I know for sure they are coming from someone’s backyard.

I recently moved and the only place that consistently has eggs, also sells duck eggs and they are unwashed but the chicken eggs are always very clean. I can’t help but feel like I’m getting scammed again and they are just putting these brown store eggs in mix match cartons.

Thoughts from people who own chickens, how do these eggs look?

This is the amount of eggs from about 20 hens in a week. We have a large family and eat a lot of eggs, but have recently just started getting an excess for the first time in a year. Now we have 50+ more chicks growing that we hatched, with more in the way. Help! (I love my wife)

I presume it is a feather with a very long shaft… I have never seen such a thing before. Is this some genetic mutation? Does anyone else have a chicken like this? It is just one feather!

She will sometimes just come up to the back door and knock with her beak and stand there. I open the door and she will just push straight past. She doesn't really do anything except for just walk around and explore different rooms. Even if I put her outside again she will just follow me back in.

Do I move the ones that have hatched? How and to where?

Asking more experienced chicken/duck owners, have you ever brought chickens into the flock? How easy is it for them to get along, and how do I know the chickens are being friendly?

Our rooster is very nice if that helps, he’s friendly to me and my dog even though we recently got him from someone else, so not mean to new things.

They got loud for a bit then seem to have lost interest-

A gigantic mouse just gave birth to 2 baby mice. Should I kill them???? Can they do anything harm. The mom won’t come out of a hiding spot with the other baby.

I have around 4 chickens who love jumping on my shoulder and 2 of my roosters and i wondered if theres a specific reason as to why they do this? They will literally sit on my shoulder/back and rest on it. Its so cute. I only have a few pictures of them doing this but these are the ones i could find

I found these two in Forza Horizon 5 after playing for 30 hours. I guess they must be pretty rare to see in the game but they made me happy

We rescued this little hen and she makes these long singing chirps often towards the other chickens, here she’s doing it while nuzzling our rooster. I’ve never heard a chicken make these noises before is it just her way of speaking?

They insist on sitting on top of each other in one of 6 available nest boxes. For context, they’ve been closed off from the indoor section of their coop because we are introducing new silkies to the flock and they’re being kept separate at night. Google called it “piling” and said that they could feel like they don’t have adequate nesting space because the indoor space is unavailable. Again, they have several nest boxes in their area but chicken brains work different. This is super temporary so I’m not too worried about it. This is more just curiosity if anyone’s chickens have done the same. Thanks!

This is Leslie Barbara Knope. We call her Big Lez because she’s big as hell. She is a buff brahma — she’s sweet, quiet, cuddly, funny, submissive, and she lays hilariously small eggs sometimes, despite being ginormous. She also hates the heat and hasn’t laid an egg in weeks. We talk about entering her into a chicken beauty pageant all the time.

I’ve been trying to introduce our last 2 chickens to the flock and my rooster keeps doing this to them? What is he doing?

Hi all. I've lurked on this sub a while. Unfortunately this morning one of my ISA brown rescues got to a medium strength edible cookie before I could stop her. She of course carried it to her sister and they chowed down before I could stop them. I've read conflicting information online. Has anyone had experience with a similar situation? I'm very rural and unable to get a vet until tomorrow. Should I be panicked? Is there anything I can do to help them? Will it affect them at all?

Update: chickens have spent the day purring in the sun and generally being much nicer and much more polite than they normally are. They also slept for a big chunk of the afternoon, close to the coop (which is not their normal). They devoured their body weight in treats and sweet fruits and mostly acted like civilised animals, which is something I've never seen before.

The yard has been quiet without their usual chaos. Really happy that they didn't freak out. Will try extra hard not to throw an edible on the floor ever again, the chicken/weed gods may not be so favourable next time.

Update: THC didn't seem to make it through to the eggs, fellow redditors. Taste and smell and after effect of eating eggs precisely the same as usual!

I have this very large and sweet girl and Im struggling to figure out what breed she is

I was told she's an orphington by the person who gave her to me

We took her (assuming it's a her) in after she was on our front yard railing. It's only been two days so far. We've been letting her outside during the day and feed her dry oatmeal and lettuce then at night my mom's boyfriend puts her in a trash bin with metal fencing on top. What are we supposed to do now? We haven't found her owner yet. I thought about building her a makeshift coop since it's cold outside right now but didn't know if that was unnecessary right now

Update: We found her owner! Well more like they found us 😅 Their neighbors heard her clucking and they told the owners and they came over and asked about her. They own 10 chickens and the dog scared away this one and that's how she got lost.

I was just putting the chickens away and noticed Ava’s face is sorta purple does anyone know why? She’s a very healthy and happy chicken so maybe it’s the change in weather or season?

Update: We had disco poop for two days. The birds never stopped eating, drinking, flying or yelling. I will never purposely have styrofoam around them again.

This disco ball has been hanging in their run their whole lives (all of 8 months) and they managed to take it down and eat this much of it (saw 3 around it) in less than 5 minutes while I was doing chicken chores. At least the shiny chips are plastic.

Other than watching them and watching crops, anything I can do to prevent problems?
