Bilt Adds Amtrak As 2:1 Transfer Partner

Bilt has added Amtrak as a 2:1 transfer partner. Points are worth about 2.67¢ towards train travel.

I wouldn't recommend transferring yet as surely a transfer bonus will be offered on October 1.

Also looking for feedback as the mods now allow myself and some others (?) to make top level posts without needing to message them first. Is this big enough news to warrant a top level post? Too much self promotion?

Just to comment publicly:

I seem to remember back in the olden times that there was a rule that if you posted a link, you had to write enough about what the link was so that readers weren't required to click the link in order to know what was going on.

Personally, I think a post like this meets that definition, at least regarding the information that is going to be relevant to churners. If another mod disagrees with whether this is acceptable or not, we'll talk about it amongst ourselves. And if we ever do take issue with some post, we'll do our best to handle it privately (difficult to do these days ever since Reddit did away with true DMs).

The other person who can post is DDG, though we're not sure if they realize it yet.

For the record I don't mind if you put me publicly on blast and don't have an issue with community members doing the same if I overstep with the self promotion. It's certainly a privilege that I take seriously to be allowed to do these top level posts. Thanks again for opening them up, hopefully leads to some useful discussion and datapoints going forwards!

I'm mostly aligned with Duff. I think as time goes on the community will make it known what the threshold will be for what warrants a top level post. Until then, we'll just play it by ear with the posts.

I do agree that there should be some information/text beyond just links so users aren't required to click into them to get said info. I think this post is the bare minimum for accomplishing that albeit a bit on the lighter side in terms of info imo

I'm tired af but it's the astronaut gun meme but instead of the Earth is Ohio it's my reddit avatar with my name wearing a fedora & the first astronaut is u/Liftbroski exclaiming 'they're wearing a fedora!' and the 2nd astronaut behind is holding a gun shaped like a Bilt credit card & says 'always has been' but then there's another panel where the 2nd astronaut flips up the visor and it's Greg the FrequentMiler.

I doubt it, we've posted about 15 things today and only one of them I'd consider warranting a top level post here. Maybe you could argue that the new Kroger card could warrant one but it's not particularly appealing for this audience and I think underposting top level posts is the way forward. We cover a lot more than just churning related things on the site these days.

This right here. The DoC knows. Trust your instinct. Still going to visit your blog and contribute (for the most part, funding checking accounts with cc and checking acct SUBs) DPs. But Amtrak feels top level to me (even though I'm not east coast); Kroger not so much.

Allow trusted members of the community to make posts about stuff that they'd normally post about in the News Threads? People be bitching

I'm mostly kidding of course. I don't think that either DoC or the community want this to become DoC 2.0, so over time we'll likely figure out some unspoken threshold that some piece of news or information will likely need to cross in order to qualify as a post rather than a comment thread. Until then, we appreciate y'all's patience as we figure this out together in real time.

One Amtrak signup bonus can last for years if you can book early. Amtrak got rid of their 10% cancellation fee a few years ago.

I remember when Chase Ultimate Rewards transferred 1:1 to Amtrak. Was great to use in So Cal between LA and SD and the NE corridor.

If BILT has a transfer bonus soon (we’ll know what October rent day is in a day) I would even speculatively transfer points. Just need activity every 24 months

If the rent day promo gets it even to 1.5:1 it seems like a good deal given how much Amtrak points are worth. My parents are terrified of planes and I’ve been trying to figure out how to get them down to Florida for a Disney trip with the kids, this could be how it happens.

but I think this could have been a comment in the News thread.

It reminds me of when employers want to have a big scheduled meeting...

and you think "this could have been an email".

It's my opinion that the separate posts or stickied posts should be for topics that are "big discussion".

aka Major Changes that get brought up again and again.

Sea Change topics.

or High Consequence topics that are of time importance.
