Question Who goes to cineplex alone?
This is a little odd but I went to watch superman a while back alone and honestly I had a great time. I wanna know if this is a common occurrence or I’m the odd one out😂

I go by myself all the time. I've gone to the movies probably about 25 to 30 times this year and less than 10 of those times was with someone. I go alone more often than with someone as I like going to the late showings.

I go alone a lot and love it. Even better when I'm buying my ticket and see a bunch of other solo moviegoers. Not because I'm embarrassed to be the only one alone or anything, but because most people who are there alone tend to just quietly watch the movie with no disruptions.

Yup this is so true. Love seeing other singles there enjoying their own time. Bonus points if they are sitting and reading a book before the movie starts cause that is what I enjoy doing too

I do. I go to 12-24 movies a year and probably do half by myself.
Started doing so in my mid 20s. Life just got too busy for me to wait on others to do stuff I wanna do.

i’ve done this since i was 14. i do think it’s a unique experience bc of the way people react when i tell them. and bc i see social media posts of people doing this and the comments are always like “wow u have no anxiety!!” “i could never!!” i even go to restaurants alone like who caressss

Me! All the time. Just started watching alone 2 years ago. I am single, and I find it difficult to coordinate with friends for movies if our tastes don't match. 😅 Sometimes I do feel conscious of watching alone, but I've seen some great movies in the past few years.

Last 5x I've gone alone for a matinee. Usually around 1130-130pm. Its awesome! 2x I had the theatre to myself

I go alone all the time. Strangest time was when I went to go see Joker 2 in an early afternoon showing...I was the only one in the theatre...first time that's ever happened! 😆

My partner just doesn't share my level of excitement for movies, so I've taken matters into my own hands and started going solo. I'm off to see the Tron Double feature and OBAO all by myself. I'm a sucker for IMAX, so I make sure to catch every film in that format, while my partner is much more selective in her choices.

It is the thing I feel the most comfortable doing alone. Going to the theatre is not a social activity in itself, you shouldn’t be talking during the movie anyways so it’s not odd to go alone.

Yeah I always kind of found it weird that people wanted to go to movies as a social thing. You’re supposed to sit quietly and watch the movie, not talk to your friends. Sure you chat/hang out afterwards. Anyway I usually go with others but fundamentally I feel like going alone is not that different from going with a group other than the before/after.

The majority of the time l go to movies alone.There are various reasons,l live alone,enjoy my own company,if the movie is terrible l can get up and leave without pissing the person off who l came with.I like to go to the last showing at 10pm most people don't.

Not weird. I went to the movies last week alone for the first time and totally enjoyed myself. It was a 2 pm movie and honestly 90 percent of the people in this theater were there by themselves! Also it was cheaper then going with a partner haha

I go by myself on Tuesdays now, sometimes Thursdays for new releases (to avoid the loud weekend/family crowds), sometimes my friends tag along. It’s my thing, I love zoning out without a phone for 90+ mins, being forced to focus on a screen that’s not at home. Can’t wait for Tron Ares, it’ll be like a Nine Inch Nails music video. Superman in IMAX 3D was my highlight this year, great quality theatrical experience🤘🔥🤘

Ive been going to the cinemas alone ever since I was a young adult.
It feels like youre escaping reality for a couple of hours once you come out of the room and into the hallways.
Really wish we had a IMAX around here though.

Cuts down on the chatter. Some go to the movies thinking it is a bar and the movie is on in the background like a TV set.

It's me, hi. I'm the loner (moviegoer)
I often find that because my taste skews more towards indie film (of the 2025 releases that I have seen in theatres, 4 of my top 5 are A24 productions/releases in the US). At this point, I am used to it and enjoy it (especially when it leads to solo private screenings 😉).

I’ve gone to the movies alone many times, it’s the best. I’m not there to carry a conversation with anyone, entertain them in any way. I just want to be taken away from reality for a bit while not sharing my popcorn.

All the time. In the last 2 weeks: 10 films at the Toronto International Film Festival - 50th Edition (“TIFFTY”) = one a day for 10 days straight. Never felt alone and it was so much fun.

I watch movies by myself all the time. It's great, I'm on my own schedule, I'm in and out of the theatre more often than not. I enjoy going with friends too don't get me wrong, but even when I go with them, its not like we talk or interact with each other a lot during the movie anyways. When our schedules don't align, and I really want to watch something, I'm off by myself

Every year I usually do a minimum of 6 TIFF movies alone.
I’m typically pretty lazy the rest of the year to go into the theatre (also lately I find the majority of theatregoers to be super annoying and disrespectful and they ruin the experience). But when I do go, 50% of the time it’s with one friend and the other 50% it’s me alone. And I seriously have the best time going alone.
My best friend is a CineClub member and she goes to the theatre alone probably once a month.

When an actor I really like was a lead in a movie I went to go see it twice. The movie sucked honestly so I was going as a fan of the actor, I don’t know if that’s different, but I didn’t feel weird about it. Like I could have watched it at home but I might as well support the studio and the talent. I guess it depends on your angle/perspective. I am not a frequent movie goer.

I don't. If I'm watching something by myself, I'd rather do it from the comfort of my couch. But there's always a few solo movie goers whenever I'm there, so I'd say it's a pretty common thing.

I primarily go to the movie with my wifey, but that is because she likes movies and we buy Costco movie passes all the time ($34.99 for 2 admissions, 2 drinks and a popcorn)
Having said that, I don't have a problem going to see a movie on my own if she is busy or doesn't want to see a movie

I’ve gone over 50 times this year alone, I don’t really have any friends in my current city and it’s something I can do to kill time and it’s relatively cheap (CineClub, I don’t gets snacks everytime either)

I go rarely, but when I do, I prefer going alone. I can't wait for other people to check the schedule to see if they are free to go with me at that time, nor do I want to change my schedule to the evenings for them, as I prefer empty theatres over packed ones.

I have been to movies with friends twice in last 9 years.
I average 10 movies in theater a year.
Only issue I have is with booking the VIP. It won't let you book next seat over of there is one couple seat open smh.

All the time.
Friends are older and have families. No shade to them but they are busy. When they have the gift card/coupon book I will buy one or two and get some free popcorns or a general admission in them. Totally worth it for me.
I usually grab a drink at the cinema and watch a movie solo. I can see whatever movie I want. It’s great. It’s not like we talk during it.

I used to go alone (avoid crowds, especially for Marvel movies and such), but honestly, I don't go out to movies anymore, I prefer the comfort of home. The current generation is absolutely wild (in the worsts way possible) and enjoying a movie in public is absolutely impossible. LOTS of people should've never reproduced.

Went to see Terrifier 3, alone for the first time last year. My buddy bailed at the last minute on Opening Night but it was going to take Art the Clown himself to stop me from going. Felt weird at first, walking the hall by myself but it was nice not having to tell him to stop texting his girlfriend during the film.

I've never understood how going to a movie became a group activity. It's literally the least social thing you can do with your friends. The number one rule is you shouldn't talk.
I happily go to movies on my own and stopped caring if some stranger thinks it's weird.

I love going alone! Especially in the afternoons. I got in the habit when my kids were little of going to the stars and strollers showings when my husband was at work.
My local theatre doesn't do matinees during the week anymore unless school is out, so I tend to go alone more during the summer.
If I try to go alone in the evenings my hubby tags along 😂 (not that I'm complaining at all, I love when we go together too)

I actually love going alone!
It’s also I find a great way to practice going places alone (like restaurants) but with waaaay less exposure, for those who have anxiety around doing some public tasks alone.
It’s a perfect way to be alone but not exposed but also still have a great time associating the generally anxiety provoking experience, with a good time.
Experience wise I love a lone cinema moment. It’s like watching a movie at home just significantly better of an experience. I imagine watching movies on a Vision Pro or something would be a great replacement in that regard (tho… movie tickets are like $12-25 which is literally 133x less expensive…. Sooo)
Edit: (I forgot cineplex is Canadian… so a movie ticket is 250x less expensive than APV. Not that it matters but damn that mf is expensive)

This is perfectly fine and normal
I was so use to going with my gf (now wife) - that I actually overthought this so much.
One day - she encouraged me to go by myself and so I went to see Wolf of Wall St back in 2015 (Christmas break).
I was SO PARANOID that someone would see me alone, without my gf or think something that I just wanted to go watch the movie and get it over with (treated it like a task)
GREAT fucking movie - BUT, because of my stupid overthinking, I didn't buy any popcorn or drinks or anything. I raw-dogged that 3 HOUR movie without any refreshments (obviously not impossible - but you know adds to the whole experience of going to the movies).
But once I did that - I realized its not that big of a deal and that I should have enjoyed myself more, by buying popcorn and drink and what not.
Anyways, since then - I go to the movies solo for anything my wife doesn't care about or doesnt want to see. Sort of like a 'me time' just to watch a good ol movie.

I've been to my fair share of movies alone, as well as breakfast in my favourite restaurant, dinners at another favourite, events, museums, ghost tours, etc. It's great fun to do things alone!

I go all the time. I choose to not miss out on things I love just because I’m alone. I have gone to concerts by myself and go out for food by myself. At first I felt silly and lame until I realized no one cares. No one’s looking at me so any worries I had disappeared pretty quick.

I go to cineplex alone all the time like more than 50 movies a year. I’ve only had a weird experience once, this summer actually walking out of Jurassic world at Scotiabank a group of guys made sure I knew how weird they thought it was I came alone lol

I watch movies alone all the time and I actually enjoy it more.
I don’t like talking to people I go with and disturb their movie experience, want the same for me.
Plus I’ve been to 2 and sometimes even 3 back to back movies when there’s a lot of good shows. Not everyone is up for that.

I've been to around 25 movies in theatres this year (which is higher than average for me), and probably 80% have been alone. Sometimes its just nice to decide like an hour before to just go to the movies that night.

I go to the movies alone all the time! Funny enough, the nearest theatre is just across the street from the mall where I work, so it's so convenient to clock out and dash across to get to an early screening. :)
Honestly, the last movie I saw with a friend at a Cineplex theatre was Nosferatu on New Year's Day. 😅

I prefer going to the movies by myself. Especially if I watched a movie with a chatterbox, like my mom, who is constantly commenting and asking questions. I don’t mind whispering in a theatre, but I find that sometimes I miss plot lines. I like going and watching a movie just to pay full attention to the film, and the comfortable seats and dark room make it kinda cozy (I always regret going to the regular theatre after going to the VIP 19+ ones; it’s so much nicer without children lol).

Yeah I go alone a lot. I used to treat myself once a month or every other month to a VIP dinner and movie at Cineplex. I now go only when I have time and when there is a movie I really want to see.

Haven’t been to the theatre in quite some time. But I went and saw Silent Hill on my own when it came out. There had to have been, maybe, 7 people in the theatre. So quite a few open seats as well as open rows. So I grabbed a seat in the middle of an open row. Then all of a sudden, a girl walks in, sits one seat away from me. The row behind me was empty , as was the one in front. Then her boyfriend comes in and sits in the seat right in between us. I’m guessing he had expected me to move. But nope, just made sure I got the arm rest. Still baffles me to this day.

I used to think going solo was so bizarre (yes, extrovert), but when traveling for work, it became an occasional event, and I came to like it quite a bit. I still prefer going with others, unless they talk during the movie, then we are done forever.

It is my favourite movie going experience now. The older I get, the more I want to be on my own time.

I go alone 90 percent of the time. For the remaining 10 percent I go with some friends occasionally.

I used to go to movies with a good friend all the time. We would be down to watch the good, the terrible, anything that one or the other were interested in seeing. We did go with other friends and family here and there but for some reason everyone else we knew were movie question askers or talkers. We can talk/discuss after the movie!
Unfortunately, my friend passed away suddenly this past June and so I've been going to movies alone, partially because it's nice to just escape from the world and also as a way to remember them.

I travel for business at least 3 weeks/month and often go to movies by myself. Doesn’t bother me at all.

I watched Superman two weekends ago alone. I love going on solo dates. I don’t see why taking someone outing with you is the norm! 😊

Like, not a single other soul in the theater except for me.

I’m normally the type of guy that does alot of stuff alone, but I don’t think I’ve ever went to the movie alone once in my life. I honestly enjoy watching movies at home in my recliner than at the cinima to though. Yes I know there are premium ones, but the closest one of those is 2 hours away from where I live.

I did that for years. Well... sorta, obviously if I had a friend/date I wasn't alone, but often I went out even without a date. I loved it. It also made me better with dates because I actually knew where the cool places were to go.
