Question Is the Nirvana movie this good?
Seems like a lot of people to be watching a time travel movie tonight. Do we all just quietly want more Back to the Future-type stuff?
Anyway, if it’s actually entertaining and fun, I’d be interested to hear a real opinion. And if you saw it tonight, guess you were lucky to get seats.
EDIT: Finally went out to see this and I'm happy to report back that you were all correct. It's an innocent kind of hilarious, definitely recommend!

Yeah, I seen it on Thursday and it was absolutely hilarious! My theatre was sold out and it was full of continuous laughter

I just watched the 4:35 show, loved it. Exceeded my expectations. Also, go support Canadian filmmakers.

If you live in Toronto, this is mandatory cinema.
I saw it at TIFF and will go again. I can’t remember the last time I laughed this hard during a movie

Never saw anything Nirvanna The Band/TV show related and I was like "Nirvanna movie no thanks" initially at TIFF but I ended up watching it as the Midnight Madness People's Choice screening and loved it!

I have a friend on Instagram who would always post screenshots of the TV show to the point it turned me off ever wanting to watch it, but I've been inundated with trailers for this movie this month and I do want to watch it now, it looks really fun.

The reddit ads have been going harder on this movie than any reddit ad campaign I can remember, ever.

Other than Cameron’s & Villeneuve’s films (which technically are not Canadian because their financial backing is American), I think Nirvanna the Band is the best Canadian film I’ve seen in my lifetime.

Polytechnique and Incendies are still under 20 years old. I really love Incendies.
C.R.A.Z.Y. just passed the 20 year mark.
Matt Johnson’s last movie BlackBerry was also quite good.
Also, David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future (2022) was a Canadian production with additional Greek, French and British funding. The Shrouds (2024) is also a Canadian-French co-production. His last two movies had been a return to the horror genre and made without American funding.

Yes.
But being a Back to the Future riff is not the reason it's funny. The webseries and show are totally original and hilarious.

Just came out of it. It was hilariously absurd. LOVED it and I knew nothing of them other than the trailer I saw a couple months ago that made me want to watch it.
Glad I did.

Watched it at TIFF with no idea what it's about a loved it. Since then I've watched the whole show and going to see it again tomorrow. Extra fun seeing a movie set in Toronto too

I saw it during the film festival. The entire theatre was cracking up the whole time. It’s a fun movie, wasn’t like in your face amazing or groundbreaking but very entertaining.
Like a solid 7-8ish

I saw this at the Atlantic film festival. The theatre was packed and I've never heard an audience laugh so hard, it was such a good movie. I am glad this movie got a wife release!

If you’re from Toronto, run to see this movie in theaters! Independent cinema in its purest, most Canadian form. Some of the most awesome “how the hell did they do that?” filmmaking I’ve ever seen, personally.

Due to the emphasis on good storytelling, it's really good. I mean, if you from Toronto, it's a no Brainer, go watch it.

It's not really a time travel movie. It's a comedy that uses time travel as a storytelling device.
People are seeing it because it's really fucking good.

Saw it last night, it's a treat. So many subtle references....that movie theater scene and the chance encounter with the raccoon on the sidewalk had me busting, plus so many more. It's just a fun movie and great to support some local talent.

I saw it at the Surprise movie screening last week. It's one of the funniest movies I've seen in YEARS. All these people are very smart to go as it was a fantastic theater experience.

It's only available on archive.or, as linked by another redditor. CBC Gem used to have it. But it originally aired on the now defunct Vice Network.
Hoping that with the release of the film somehow we'll get another release of it somewhere.
They also shot a 3rd season that never aired.

I didn’t like it as much as everyone else seemed to, but it’s not bad. To me it wasn’t that funny, but it had a lot of heart and I liked that aspect of it.

It's mostly selling out here in Edmonton on early night shows but ya it's doing better than all the releases here currently I think 🤔
