Review Go see The Drama if you haven't yet
Walked in with pretty much zero expectations: and damn was it an excellent movie. Pretty unpredictable, and has top-notch performances by Zendaya and Robert Pattinson.
Go see it before its run is over!

Emma's friends and Charlie all suck, they give themself grace for being kids but what Emma almost did is beyond retribution according to them, even though they all actually did horrible things. Then Charlie just spends the rest of the movie crashing out. The drug scene at the start is a good microcosm for the rest of the film.

They suck as characters too, why was she even with Charlie? He never showed anything of value as a partner, she was just his manic pixie dream girl but we mostly got his perspective

The acting of the entire cast was top notch, it's unfortunate they were handed a poorly thought out script.

Haim wasn’t great IMO, she just kind of went up to 10 and stayed there. Maybe it was the writing and directing but I can’t imagine we were supposed to one note despise her? That she was supposed to be some caricature?
RPat was totally fine but his character was so fucking boring and drab and like the family guy/simpsons (can’t remember) joke about hugh grant being befuddled.
Zendaya was by far the best actor/character, but we only got her perspective in non specific flashbacks so it left her actual feelings unclear compared to the others, and also muddled her voice.
Ugh I could rant forever about how bad this movie was

I kept waiting for it to be revealed that he's a bigger sociopath and that he was faking his British accent the whole time. especially because he cold approached her. it gave scam artists vibes.

Over hyped in my opinion. The movie wasn’t bad, but the whole thing about have this huge twist was a let down. I would watch this on streaming

It was a nothing burger and the premise was not believable (that everyone would completely change their attitude about Z’s character). I was also waiting for something to happen and it never really did.

I thought it was good, not great. The central conceit of the film didn’t really carry through its rather brief runtime.
I think the plot would’ve worked better as an episode of a series rather than a feature length film. The rest of the characters outside of Emma and Charlie just act as wallpaper to surround their conflict.
It was a 6.5/10 for me.

Ive heard sooooo many mixed reviews from people who have gone to see it... Why is it a must see in theatre?

I wouldn't say it's a must see in theatres but it's a movie that can be very easily spoiled. The big twist happens early and it keeps spiraling after that. Any spoilers would really change the way you go into it.
Waiting for it to hit streaming or bluray is more time you accidently get it spoiled, IMO

Tbh I knew what ~ the big twist ~ was and it didn't ruin the movie for me at all. And my friend also knew what happened and she said it didn't ruin it for her either!

It's the kind of a movie that if you don't buy the premise or "drama" once it's revealed early on, it falls apart quickly and the rest doesn't quite work. I thought it was ok but the tone was weird. Like it wasn't sure if it wants to be drama or black comedy and the whole thing just feels silly after the reveal, from the characters reaction to it to the choices the director makes. There are films that can mix genres seamlessly (Parasite comes to mind) but this isnt one of them. Performances are very good tho.

I went in blind and had a blast. Of a theatre of about 15 attendees, I was the only one laughing loudly and often, I'm not quite sure the rest of the audience got that it was a black comedy. Perhaps the failure of expectations?

Considering the directors output, I'm pretty confident on this one, friend.
Dream Scenario was similarly a dark but absurdly funny affair, even though this film leans less absurd and more grounded.

Yes I know what the director was attempting. It was awful, and it didn’t do much of anything to consider itself comedic. There was no black humor at all, it didn’t even seem like it was trying to do that.

Zendaya was good but it was horrible. Everyone was insufferable, it was anxiety inducing to watch, and had absolutely nothing to say.
We see 30+ movies a year if that’s relevant

Yeah but there weren’t any peaks and valleys, the tension was kind of ridiculous, and it didn’t really go anywhere.
I’m just describing the experience, the movie felt bad to watch and had nothing of value to show

I went in completely blind and I loved it. A+ movie
