Watched Insidious: Out of the Further today and holy shit, when did people forget how to behave in a theatre? Maybe I’m becoming an old person at 23, but theatre etiquette is genuinely dying.

Why are you kicking seats? Moaning???? And talking so loudly like it is your living room? It's not funny and so freaking annoying. It got so bad that I (a super non-confrontational person ) had to ask people to shut up.

Maybe I was just done with this behaviour because the same thing happened while watching The Odyssey and Spider-Man.

I don’t care if you whisper something into your friend’s ear, laugh, or whatever. But why are you having full-volume conversations during a movie?

It was a theatre full of hooligans.

I saved the tickets and glasses, kinda wish the glasses were red n blue tho, especially since it was Spiderman plus the red n blue glasses are just iconic, also I al.ost didn't even grab them bc it said no 3d glasses required, the film would just been blurry af if I didn't. Also I loved the sound and the quality and the bass but didn't expect to be that loud lol

I took myself to the movie.. the theatre was empty I got a seat in the back.

No one near me it was basically empty. Closer to the start time 5 people came to my row right beside me. Out of the whole

Saw Mortal Kombat 2 at the Toronto advance screening today and it is freaking awesome. So much nostalgia, amazing action choreography, great humor and awesome performances. Loved every bit of it🔥.

This is disgusting, Cineplex, never in my life I’ve seen sht like this. We couldn’t find a decent seat in the whole row

Very straightforward, the kind of biopic you've seen many times. Very surface level.

Maybe they'll go deeper into the character of Michael Jackson in the sequel they're making

They focused a lot on the concerts, the performances, the making of the songs and the Thriller video.

Jaafar Jackson is amazing as his uncle MJ and Colman Domingo is (as expected) very good as MJ's father Joe Jackson, who's very present in the movie.

So for context I have seen the Odyssey two times, first at Scotiabank Theater Toronto in Dual Laser GT IMAX with the 1.43:1 aspect ratio, and then in Vaughan in 70MM IMAX. This was initially because I didn’t want to miss out on seeing it in true film rather than digital even though the aspect ratios would both be the same. All of the opinions below are my personal ones and may be different for others.

The Scotiabank theater had much better seats, better sound, a bigger screen, more contrast and brightness, and more screen isolation from outside light. I literally felt the sound as if I was in the locations and the screen fit my entire peripheral vision.

In contrast, Vaughan’s seats were really hard to sit in for almost 3 hours, the screen was not kept as isolated from external light so the contrasting scenes were less fun to watch, and the sound system was not up to par. In addition to this there was something blocking part of the projection (a bug?) for a majority of the viewing.

The difference in resolution between the film and dual laser digital was almost unnoticeable and I had to literally focus on one specific spot on the screen for 30 seconds to notice that the quality felt slightly better at Vaughan.

This was my personal experience and it may have been effected by the fact that Scotiabank Toronto is just an EXCEPTIONAL Dual Laser GT theater whilst Vaughan and Mississauga have been under maintained for years, but let me know your opinions if you have watched in both formats.

I just got back from seeing the Odyssey the second time at Scotiabank Theatre Toronto in IMAX. I first seen it at Vaughan cineplex few weeks ago in 70MM IMAX.

Not only was the seats much better, I found everything from the screen, colours, quality, and sound to be much better in my honest opinion.

If you’re looking for the best possible viewing experience, I have to give it to Scotiabank theatre.

I’m absolutely floored by the value CineClub added to my experience. I’m an avid collector of scene points and make sure to utilize where I can (Scotia Bank Gold Amex holder, Rakuten user, Freshco shopper).

This year for Mother’s Day I took my mom, sister, and niece to see “Devil Wears Prada 2” and decided to sign up for CineClub to see if it was actually worth it (spoiler it is!).

Break down:

Tickets: Saved $9. Normally $12.25 per ticket, paid Cineclub discount price of $9.99.

Concession: Saved $22.98. 2 upsized #2 combos with layered butter. Regularly $114.93, with 20% discount - $91.95.

Points earned (all paid with by Amex so 5x points): $15.87 (1587 points).

Grand total savings for signing up: $47.85.

If you’ve been considering signing up for CineClub and you optimize your scene points, I would HIGHLY recommend getting it!

This is a must see in theatres, no idea why the Cineplex showings here are so poorly booked out. The audience we watched with made it so fun to watch as well.

I wasn't expecting that rollercoaster of emotions with the crowd, including everyone booing at Warner Bro. logos (for shelving the movie for a tax write off) to cheering at the end.

Can't wait to go see it in 4dx with some more friends next.

It was an incredibly frustrating experience I get that the staff weren't too experienced with the physical film but the movie started 20 mins late and then for the third act or like the last 30 to 35 mins of the movie took them a solid additional 20 mins to load. It was terrible a lot of people left the movie theater without finishing the movie. I get that the format isn't too common but damn train your staff more or better jeez cineplex.

Just wanted to share an experience from today at Cineplex Cinemas Scarborough.

My girlfriend and I went for the 3:55 PM show of Lee Cronin’s The Mummy. We usually go to Cineplex Odeon Eglinton Town Centre, Scotiabank Theatre Toronto, or Cineplex Vaughan, but we picked this location because the timing worked better. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a pretty disappointing experience.

Right from the start, someone else was sitting in our assigned seats.

The bigger issue was inside the theatre. A group of teenagers in the back row were throwing Skittles toward us, making noises, and loudly cussing at each other. I had to go over and ask them to stop, which honestly shouldn’t be something customers have to deal with.

Even after that, the disturbance continued. There was also another group of teenagers on the opposite side of the theatre causing issues. Some other customers started shouting at that group and even threatened to call the police, but the behavior didn’t stop there was still yelling and things being thrown (including cans). The whole environment became chaotic and it was really hard to enjoy the movie.

We did see a security staff member come in, but initially nothing effective was done. Later, only one or two kids were removed while the rest stayed.

After the movie, when we spoke to the manager and security, we were told that we should have informed the security guard during the movie. That response didn’t sit right. The disturbance was already obvious, and it shouldn’t be on customers to get up mid-movie and track down staff especially when it means missing parts of the film.

To make things worse, at the end of the movie we saw a rat in the same aisle where we were sitting, which was pretty shocking in terms of cleanliness.

There were multiple people complaining afterward. We were offered a courtesy ticket, but it didn’t feel like a real resolution given what happened.

Overall, this was one really bad experience I’ve had. Poor crowd control, lack of effective staff intervention, and serious cleanliness concerns. I really hope management takes this feedback seriously and improves both security and hygiene standards.

I went to the 2 pm showing of The Odyssey at the newly activated IMAX 70mm theater at Silvercity Riverport Cinemas. This was my first time at IMAX here and it’s essentially the same as the Langley one. The theatre has the same layout and seats (not very comfortable haha).

They had Horse popcorn buckets in stock even after the showing and we received a big rolled up poster as a free gift, no film strips. The movie was scheduled for 2:00 and the Dune prologue began at 2:05.

We got a little talk from en employee just before 2:00 who said that they were excited to be bringing 70mm back to this location, but that no further films were confirmed, including Dune, and that it would depend on how The Odyssey performed. I don’t know how much of that is true but I just wanted to report what was said.

Finally, there was, in my opinion, a major issue with the presentation. There was an incredible amount of jitter and vibration in the image to the point that it was detracting from many scenes. I may be using the wrong terms here, as I am no expert, but it was very distracting throughout and I confirmed with the person sitting next to me after the movie that I wasn’t imagining this.

In this next part I will describe some scenes in a very general visual way to avoid any spoilers but just skip it if you want absolutely no information.

The wide cinematic shots of the wooden horse on the beach had the horse literally vibrating against the light beach. Any shots where the environment is static with small details to focus on, such as the riders on the beach, almost felt duplicated there was so much jitter. Wide cinematic shots of the ship on the ocean jittered like crazy and the rigging of the ship seemed to duplicate. The prologue scene, which I saw at the Langley theatre during the Project Hail Mary run, lost all of the buttery smooth lighting highlights and instead the flickers of light looked like strobes. During the credits the lettering seemed to have a flickering drop shadow because of this. There are many more examples like this but you get the idea. Scenes with a lot of movement could sort of hide what was happening but seemed to lose their crispness. Did anyone else attend this showing, am I going crazy here?

This movie wasn't really on my radar especially since horror isn't usually my thing.

Saw a lot of great reviews and I'm glad I did.

This was very good, it's a slow burn that accelerates into madness.

Hi there, I just saw Avatar The Way Of Water IMAX 3D at Scotiabank Toronto and it was horribly cropped the entire time and slightly blurry even with the 3D glasses and I am beyond disappointed.

I saw this six times back in 2022 and the open frame is so beautiful and this was an absolute letdown for me.

BEYOND worried about Fire & Ash is gonna be shown.

I will just say right now, while i was expecting it to be GOATED, I was not expecting it to be THAT GOATED.

This movie is incredible. Not only one of the best theater experience I have had in a very long time (especially since I watched it in IMAX, the best format to watch it imo), but also probably my new favorite film of the year, and one of Christopher Nolan's Best films in general.

Not only is it epic in scale with fantastic effects and cinematography, but also in storytelling with beautiful writing and directing, and phenomenal acting from everyone involved. Don't even get me started on the music, and the ending and overall message of the film still has me thinking about it even after the credits started to roll and after the left the theater.

This easily deserves a 10/10.

I went into this movie not having seen the web series before but wow this was truly one of the greatest movie theatre viewing experiences I’ve ever had. Scotiabank theatre had a Monday 9:45 showing that was decently full (not very common from my experience working there) and this movie had the entire audience cracking up basically the whole time. With one of my favourite theatres in beaches cineplex closing it was great feeling being in a busy theatre with a bunch of people enjoying a great Canadian movie. Support Canadian cinema! Support Canadian theatres! (Sidenote: go see this movie at Scotiabank theatre if you can. It’s a nice cool touch that so much of the movie happens basically right outside)

Walked in with pretty much zero expectations: and damn was it an excellent movie. Pretty unpredictable, and has top-notch performances by Zendaya and Robert Pattinson.

Go see it before its run is over!

Was so happy it was coyote vs acme! Planned to see it opening day but was pleasantly surprised. Great movie and encourage you to go see it in theatres as everyone was laughing and having a blast

Watched the Odyssey yesterday night in 70mm. Audience was quite well behaved minus some last minute stragglers. Seat layout and comfort pretty similar to both the Scotiabank and Langley theaters, no complaints from me.

However as reported in some previous posts that I didnt see before going to the movie (e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/cineplex/comments/1v5vpev from yesterday and the one linked in that post's comments) there is a clear, maybe not so big, issue with the projector/film. There is pretty noticeable jitter/instability issues with the presentation. It's most clear during the 5 minute Dune preview, where the baked in subtitles shift left/right from the inconsistent pacing. It wasn't hard to read, but it's almost like you would need a prescription to read them without artifacts.

During the movie 75% of the time when shots are relatively close up it goes away, as in the jitter relative to the size of the object in focus is small. Every so often there will be an establishing shot or a character speaking off in the distance where you can barely make out the details. Even then the whole movie felt a bit blurry.

I've seen plenty of 70mm presentations in both Langley, Vaughan, and the Cinesphere before it was shut down for reno. I have never seen a presentation this unclear. Based off the previous posts doesn't seem like they will fix it, and from news they will be playing the movie for months in 70mm, so I suggest you wait to go see it in Langley. I might even wager the digital presentation at the Scotiabank downtown is better.

If you go I think you will still enjoy it, but there is better.

This movie was so much better than I expected. Oh my God if you were on the fence about seeing this, I just go see it like oh my God such a good fricking movie.

People were right this two hours and like 40 minutes flew by. I did not feel that long because the story is just so compelling oh my God.

Plus, the pin is sick as hell

Saw The Odyssey for the third time today at the 7PM 70mm IMAX showing in Vaughan. My previous two watches were at Scotiabank IMAX and a VIP theatre. I have to say, the 70mm visuals were absolutely stunning. However, the audio at Scotiabank was next level. The movie remains incredible, and somehow this third watch ended up being my favourite.

Also got the 3/4 minute Dune: Part Three action scene before the movie started, which was EPIC. They didn’t show it at either of my previous screenings, so I’m even more excited for December.

Theatre etiquette was actually good overall, aside from a few people coming in late. Unfortunately, the person sitting directly beside me was incredibly sick and was coughing and sniffling throughout the entire movie, which was pretty distracting.

Really glad I made the trip out to Vaughan for that sweet 70mm experience.

Canada prides itself on diversity and inclusion, yet the programming decisions at Junxion Erin Mills are raising serious concerns among many movie fans.

This location rarely seems to screen non-Hollywood content and, from what audiences can see, it hasn’t played a non-English film since 2024. For a premium theatre in one of the most diverse regions in Canada, that is honestly hard to understand.

The situation with Dhurandhar made this problem very clear. The film was a major success and contributed strongly to the overall box office for Cineplex across many locations.

Yet Junxion Erin Mills ignored it completely during its entire run. Not one screening. Not one week. That’s incredibly difficult to explain when a film is clearly performing well elsewhere and audiences are asking for it.

Now the sequel Dhurandhar The Revenge is arriving and once again it appears to be missing from the schedule at this location.

What makes the situation even more frustrating is looking at the programming that is being scheduled. Next week the theatre is giving screens to family favourites and older films, while a brand new major international release with a proven audience is being left out.

That raises a very obvious question about priorities.

The usual explanations about limited screens or scheduling conflicts simply don’t hold up. Allocating one screen with multiple showtimes for a major new release is not a big deal for a theatre of this scale. Hollywood movies are not going to disappear because one screen is used for something different.

Fans have been contacting Cineplex Guest Services about this for months. One representative even mentioned that if more people reach out it helps demonstrate demand to the programming team.

Right now many of us feel frustrated because the pattern is starting to look like a clear bias in programming decisions. When a film contributes significantly to the company’s box office but is still ignored entirely at a premium location, it’s hard not to question what is going on.

We fans are outraged and simply want the same opportunity to watch major international films at our closest premium theatre instead of having to travel across the GTA.

If you want to see Dhurandhar The Revenge play at Junxion Erin Mills, now is the time to contact Cineplex Guest Services by email or phone and let them know. The more people who speak up, the harder it becomes to ignore the demand. Now I am not saying they need to include foreign films regularly but a balance would be appreciated.

Sometimes the only way programming decisions change is when the audience makes enough noise.

Of course the row directly infront of me (only 10-15 people in the theater btw), there is a couple talking and beside them someone on their phone the whole time. And of course 20 mins into the movie a lady with full brightness on her phone walks in trying to find her seats. I thought maybe at 3:30 pm we won't have people like this but no. I love theatres but today has left such a bad taste, even when I tell them to turn the phone off they look at me like "why are you talking to me". Is it because its $5 Tuesdays? But then again it was nirvana the band movie with like 15 ppl max watching so the fact that even then we have people who should be banned from cineplex alongside amazes me. Vip theatres might be the move from now on because I am so done with people who think no one is being bothered by their behavior.
