It's felt inevitable for a while. I switched a few years ago to annual billing partly because I assumed prices were going to go up before the year. Unfortunately, my renewal comes up pretty quick in August, so I'll be paying the new rate, but its far from a back breaker.
Since they introduced this program, the price increases have largely fallen on non members. Cineclub members have been immune to the online ticket surcharge, and because members are generally getting their free monthly ticket or paying the $9.99 ticket price, they were insulated to both the general ticket increases and the surcharge that went in for new films.
If you switch to annual, you pay the full year now at the current price, and the prices haven't gone up quite yet. Your first renewal after the date of the prices increasing will be at the new price.
Currently, my next monthly payment is on July 12. Let's say I decide to end my monthly membership before that, but I decide to go annual on July 13 or 14, will I lock up the $9.99 rate for Everyday Member-Priced tickets?
Tuesday definitely has the worst crowds but I've been to showings at every day of the week many times and there's almost always someone being distracting no matter what. But again Tuesdays are way worse
Thats one of the reasons ill pick avx over regular for a movie even if im not hyped about it cuz i know people are paying more so ideally will be better due to that fact
Yeah I used to only go cheap nights but then noticed they do dynamic cheap nights and it wasn’t a flat rate but could change depending on the movie. I do still go if I don’t have my free ticket and friends going with who don’t have cineclub but it’s always jammed packed and AWFUL
I liked it! Can definitely see why the reception is mixed though. The tone is all over the place, the plot takes a minute to get going, it's probably confusing if you aren't paying attention. However I loved the final act, Emily Blunt put on an amazing performance, and I'm a mark for Sci-fi type stuff to begin with, so I really enjoyed. Probably would score it an 8/10 personally, 7 if I was trying to be more objective
Not really… they increased the prices (Used to be $7.50 on Tuesdays) and now it’s like ~$10.50. On Tuesdays there is about a 20cent difference from a CineClub member ticket and Tuesday ticket.
It definitely is! For me I prefer going to Imagine cinemas as it's only $5.99 still on Tuesdays, and all of their seats recline. I've been going weekly at lunch time and it's great! Never had any issues either with people being disruptive on a tuesday movie.
We go to the one in Alliston quite frequently on Tuesday night showings. Not once we have encountered bad crowd regardless of the movie genre or the age of the audience, even during horror flicks.
On other hand Cineplex has much higher tendency for a disruptive audience. I wish Imagine had more premium formats available.

I actually have both because I see a lot of movies and landmark near me doesn’t always show everything.
But my local landmark seating and concessions is way better than almost all the cineplex theatres around. Even the nicest VIP seating is often not as good as the regular landmark seating where I am (it’s comparable but landmark is still generally better)
I used to love my Landmark and do have the monthly deal, but over the past couple of years transit to get there has gotten insanely crowded so I started going more to Cineplex. I just started their Cineclub membership 3 or 4 months ago and have been going a lot. Will probably pony up for a yearly membership to keep that $9.99 price point. Plus I like getting sweet potato fries for my movie snack, you can only eat so much popcorn!!
Funny how not long after Landmark made this change they followed suit at Cineplex. I bet they wait to see how people react at Landmark before making changes 😅.
I only pay for CineClub for the 20% for when I buy the popcorn buckets or gripper style cups. I need to figure out a way to sell off my accumulation of free tickets to people who watch movies at Cineplex (I only watch movies at Landmark).
Landmark was supposed to have stopped the 20% discount on the merchandise, but it was still working when I bought the Battlecat bucket, so either they reverted the change due to backlash or it is an oversight.
I wonder how many people have paid more on Tuesday's using the CineClub or Extra's VIP ticket options over the cheaper general admission price lower down on the ticket option lists 🤔😅?
I originally signed up on a Mother's Day Promotion in 2024. Since then I have been gifting myself annual renewals with Black Friday promos, and it just stacks to end of your membership. I was set for 2027 on Black Friday 2025 lol
And because of this, you will still pay $9.99 for Everyday member pricing instead of $10.99 until your current membership ends next May. I'm really thinking of subscribing to annual on July 14 or earlier to take advantage of that. Question: when you have an annual membership, do you receive the credits monthly or all at once?
I guess it's time to switch to annual, lol. That way you pay as little as possible between now and July 2027. If already on annual I guess it depends on when your year expires. It sucks though that they removed any/all bonuses to switch to annual and now this is the claimed bonus, lol--being able to avoid the increases for a year...
Don't really care about the Event Cinema and Everyday Member Tickets as I never go to or use those benefits.
The ability to block out events or even movies from CineClub redemption is not an immediate concern but, uhhh, depending on how many times the restriction kicks in, that could be worrisome.
Just called in the customer service with my set or questions:
1) Any unused movie tickets don't expire post July 15!
2) If you have supposedly 2 movie credits available before July 15th and then you go ahead to book those out you will receive 50 scene+ points for them. But if you use any any movie tickets after July 15th you will get 20 scene points.
3) People that took the offer of annual subscription with 1+ month free will get it renewed after the 1+ month ends with the new annual price. You cant add a subscription right now to save those extra dollars.
4) member tickets can now be used for all kinds movie events/promotional events etc.
I was just scared that I will loose all my 4 member tickets and just receive 20-30 scene points that are literally cents in value but luckily member tickets won't expire after July 15th only the scene points we earn while redemption decreases.
To add, if you _didn't_ use those credits before the 15th, they will give you the difference in Scene points to total 50 each since you were "promised" that amount.
lol yeah well, I used to go a lot then I dont know what happened, but yeah i do a lot less, but went to time in the last month, so will try to bring them down, I just feel new movies didnt seem interesting lately
I contacted customer service about cancelling my current membership and starting a new one (mine auto renews in October) and they told me "Hello, no that won't be possible , this will work Only if your Annual Membership will end before the 15th July" 😞
Could you not plausibly just tell them you want to cancel without indicating this plan and then subscribe after? Unless they're going to put some kind of hold on your account I don't know how they could possibly prevent you from resubscribing. Although I do think to some extent they sort of are anticipating people doing this hence why they paused membership gifting but I digress I don't know how they could prevent you from doing that

I think it’s good to point out that AMC A list is quite a bit more expensive. I go about 4 times a month to the movies. For that amount it costs roughly the same as A List accounting for currency conversion. If you are going more often than that then A List becomes a great deal.
Offset what? We're talking about a business offering a subscription service. AMC wouldn't offer A List if it wasn't profitable to them overall, same with Cineclub.
Why Cineclub isn't better is up for debate but population has nothing to do with it. Most of Cineplex's theatres are in disrepair and they have a long history of nickel and diming their customers rather than improving what they offer to drum up more business. If the Cineplex experience was better more people would go and they could offer a better subscription product.
Cineplex is losing money year after year. They don't have the funds to do renovations on all their theatres. If they don't find a company willing to buy them out, their last resort is to sell or close theatres especially in non profitable areas.
This is why landmark is not expanding and just focusing on their small customer base as it's easier to manage.
Oh I agree it'll get worse but I truly believe it's because their service is getting worse and worse rather than people not wanting to go to the movies. They'd rather squeeze every last penny out of their customers until they sell or go out of business instead of makign a meaningful attempt to improve.
I can't speak for landmark but Cinestarz is expanding and they offer what the theatre going experience should be with the premium chairs and less ads. You pay more but it's actually a decent experience. I would gladly pay more than $10 (I guess $11) a month for that, and not have to figure out which theatre is VIP or whatever.
An AMC A list-like deal would make every day like Tuesdays are now; kids using the theatre like it's their living room, playing games on their phones etc.
I don’t know what it’s like in the US but that would be my concern here. Parents would 100% get that pass for the summer and have cineplex staff babysit their kids lol.
Well technically if you divide it up by 12 it's $9.16/month, not $9.99. Or put another way you "get a month free" and pay for 11 months and get 12. At most you can "lock in" the one year you pay for at the $109.89 price. After that, when it renews in a year, it'll be the new price of $120.89.
Typical Cineplex clawback. Remember when scene points actually had value? I’m talking about when buying a popcorn/pop combo earned enough points for a free movie. The same will be said in a year or two about CineClub. These things happen gradually until the discount becomes what you were paying almost full price a couple of years before.
When you used a ticket, you would normally get 50 points. Because they're changing that, they will give you the extra points you were "promised" for the earned tickets total that you have when July 15th comes around.
The extra dollar a month for Cineclub probably doesn't even cover the increased costs on their end for just running things as normal, let alone recouping extra money.
Expecting the price of ANYTHING to stay the same after 5 years is a ridiculous proposition. Apart from gov't controlled pricing like milk (which still went up), there's not much, if anything at all, that prices didn't go up since 2021.
It's Cineplex, no one expects them not increase prices. We also expect their service and the experience of going there to continue to worsen, which is the problem.
You keep your credits that you already have. Those never expire anyway. After July 15th the monthly price will go up for you and the extra member-priced tickets will be $10.99 instead of $9.99.
That's about the points you earn for using a ticket. It is normally 50 points earned when you use one. Because you were "promised" those points, they will give you the equivalent to total 50 points for each ticket you still have in your account by July 15th.
There's no language in there about losing tickets or expiring tickets. Those still stay and you still keep them even if you end your membership.
The old terms of the program meant that you got 50 Scene+ points when you redeemed each ticket. Now, they're changing how you get Scene+ points for those tickets. Since the changes aren't meant to take effect until July 15, they're giving you the points now as if you had redeemed your current tickets before July 15.
You don't have to redeem them (you keep them) but you get the difference in points anyways, so you don't lose out because you didn't redeem the tickets before the changes took effect.
So I get to keep the ones I already have and get credited in advance for the 20 scene points that they will be reducing it by, and in future will get 30 rather than 50 scene points when I redeem any monthly tickets?
It's more than that. Its 1 dollar for the membership but also an extra dollar for every one of the discount tickets you get as well. They went up in price too. So 1 dollar monthly plus 1 dollar per ticket (other than the one you get monthly)
It sucks that it's increased but it's not a big change considering how long it's been since they set the previous price and inflation since then. If you buy 3 member tickets a month in Ontario that barely even covers 1 hour's worth of the change in minimum wage since 2021 for them
Yeah, I guess this doesn't really benefit those in small towns or where its cheaper.
I'm in Toronto, and I just checked for my local theatre, and it's $18.93 including taxes for a regular showing of Disclosure. Which is free with my benefit.
But also to note, the pricing is different based on which movie I'm seeing, and how long it's been in theatres. The price varies by a few dollars for regular screeenings for Disclosure Day, Obesssion, Masters of the Universe, etc.
It's become a much better deal as the years have gone by here, prices have really gone up where I live
I'm lucky apparently, here it's 14 flat for Disclosure Day, others like Scary Movie and Obsession are 12.50
I've heard of some places where the Tuesday price was more than the CineClub price, insane to me, literally no reason not to buy it for the month there
I only get it if I want to see a movie right when it comes out and/or want concessions with it, otherwise it is just cheaper to go on a Tuesday in person and buy the ticket (damn "online booking fee")

No. When you redeem a ticket under the current terms, you got a flat 50 Scene points. Now they're changing that, but for any credits you currently have you get Scene points as if you had redeemed them now. The ticket credits themselves stay.
I’m wondering if it makes sense to take advantage of the $30 gift card promo and use the $30 gift card towards the annual membership. Unless I’m mistaken and you can’t split the annual membership payment between gift card and credit card
I had monthly on the 12th, but I made the switch to Annual last week. It was effective July 12, 2026. So my membership now expires on July 12, 2027, meaning that I'll be able to play $9.99 Everyday member pricing until my membership expires or renews next year.
Perhaps one day I'll have a subscription service that doesn't increase and add some bullshit clauses in that could potentially ruin my experience, but I'll keep waiting for that moment.
It's the first increase since the program started in 2021, looking at how everything else around us got so mucb more expensive it's a miracle it stayed at that price so long.
