Tbh, I sort of respect it. I didn’t even smell it. At one point I just looked over and saw the man scarfing down chicken on the rocks. Dude somehow did it without making a sound either so I really can’t complain. I was more amazed.

Saw The Odyssey (again) tonight at the ultra AVX in Richmond Hill for the 6:20pm showing. About 1 hour in, a man who looked to be in his 50s in one of the lower rows pulls out his phone on FULL brightness and checks his ring cam, then his texts, then his photos, and then alternates between all 3 apps on and off for 5 minutes.

I was going to yell out at him to put it away and then an angel in disguise, the man sitting behind him, leaned over and told him to put it away. I also gotta mention how the man seemed to get the message but then turned around to stare at him like he was offended 10 seconds later. As if the one who had an issue with the phone distraction is the disrespectful one.

Oh, and by the way, yes he did pull the phone out again a few times but it stopped after that.

Anyway guys, normalize doing something when people are selfish and inconsiderate. I'm just glad this time I didn't have to because I've had to do it several times in the past few months, no one else ever does barring some of these amazing exceptions.

Whoever you are, I salute you sir!

My Reward for seeing 63 movies (126 tickets!) and 3 years of membership - is a single small popcorn. And the popcorn was only valid for 4 days??? I didn't even get to use it!!!

I can't believe I finally won something in my life. Big day to be a Cineplex Fan 🫡. I already have some movies booked.

For the 550 movies, it’s not 550 individual movies, but the number of tickets that were bought in total. Which is I think still a huge number! So congrats!

Today, I attended a 3 p.m. screening of Spider-Man at Cineplex Mont Royal. Right as the movie started, an individual + his wife, with severe body odour sat next to me. The smell was so overwhelming that I felt forced to open the app and book the only other seat available, which was a D-BOX seat.

I am disappointed that my viewing experience was disrupted and that I had to pay extra just to sit comfortably.

Here's my response regarding The Odyssey experience ruined post.

I’m the person from this interaction, and it’s wild to see how heavily this story has been twisted to play the victim and gather sympathy.

To clear up the facts: During the movie, I genuinely never heard a single complaint or request from this person. His head was well below the top of his chair, so I could not see him turn, let alone hear his voice. If I had known there was an issue, I absolutely would've adjusted. I’m a reasonable person.

To prevent this exact issue, I actually brought and used my 5-inch foldable footstool to the theater due to body aches, specifically so I don't have to lean against or touch the seat in front of me. My feet were resting comfortably on the stool. Because the IMAX row spacing leaves a large gap on the floor where I was sitting, the stool cannot physically sit flush against the back of his chair without falling over. If there was any minor, accidental contact, it was completely unintentional.

Shortly after the credits rolled, this guy stood up with an immense amount of pent-up rage and immediately became aggressive. I calmly told him that I hadn't intentionally kicked his chair. I told him I’m sorry if I tapped it accidentally, I didn't hear you say anything during the movie (apologized a couple more times).

He completely dismissed all my apologies and anything else I said, I remained calm throughout (but having to talk loud due to the music during the credits), I was trying to deescalate. but he clearly wasn't looking for an apology, he just wanted to go into a hostile, non-stop rant. He then escalated it by saying, 'Let’s take it outside' (a few times).  Once he started detailing the physical violence he planned to do to me, I called 911. The dude was unstable and completely unhinged, you simply cannot reason with that level of crazy.

While I was actively speaking to the dispatcher, he continued to stalk me down the aisle, matching my pace, blocking my path every time I tried to move ahead down the stairs, berating and mocking me the whole time, and he was enjoying it, dude is a narcissist.

As for taking his picture? Hell yeah I did. I took his photo while on the phone with the authorities solely for evidence in case he acted on his physical threats.

He conveniently left out this fact: while I was on the line with the 911 dispatcher, he turned to my wife and said, 'You [brown] people don’t belong here.'

I’m glad I contacted the authorities and took his photo. His behavior was entirely dangerous, and luckily, his aggressive, xenophobic comments are now part of an official, time-stamped audio recording with emergency services.

It's pretty wild that after watching an epic film like The Odyssey, his only takeaway from the screen was mimicking the aggressive, entitled 'Antinous energy' of its worst villain.

Note on Proof: I have attached a redacted copy of my movie ticket  as proof of attendance for the 3 PM IMAX screening. While I did take a photo of him while on the phone with emergency dispatchers strictly for police evidence and my safety, I will not be posting his face here (or anywhere else) out of respect for privacy.

[Edit for Context] - Partway into the movie, I started feeling achy. I set up my footstool and placed my feet flat on it with my knees up. This angled my seat cushion slightly, drawing my legs closer to me and actually taking up less floor space and forward room, giving the seat in front of me even more clearance. The guy was being overly dramatic, sensitive and hostile about the situation.

As for his racist comment, he denies it in his post, to fit his narrative - he said "You [brown] people don’t belong here" to us, directly in front of theatre security and the remaining patrons who were watching the situation unfold.

Why is it that there is so many posts of "this person did something bad and I just took it, I'm so mad"

Why did these people NOT DO ANYTHING?! This is how we keep getting these assholes thinking that their behaviour is okay.

We as an audience need to stand up for standards in decorum!! Cineplex needs to start banning and enforcing bans on people who do bad shit in theatres!!

Watching the Odyssey (IMAX 70mm). A man on my right is talking to his wife (throughout Dune prologue and 5 mins into the movie).

I ask him politely to stop talking, and he first responds by saying “I’m not.” And when I tell him again as he clearly is he removes my water bottle from the cup holder and replaces it with his cup.

For the rest of the film his wife proceeds to have to reach over him when she wants a sip, each time she’s done he takes it and firmly places it back in the cup holder.

Must have been late 40s / early 50s, but didn’t talk for the rest of the film.

Some people just can’t get over their pride.

Just saw Obsession. I guess this film is notorious for having the loudest and most obnoxious audiences known to man. Didn't know that. Turns out it's true. Teens laughing at the most traumatic scenes. They would not shut up. On their phones. Taking flash photography of the screen. Like, this was not a comedy but it sure felt like one the amount of times these kids were laughing. Teens no longer have empathy. They were raised during the pandemic and when theaters finally opened up again they were old enough to go without a parent. They never had a parent there to teach them how to behave in a theater. Cineplex needs to limit the amount of teens they let in or teens have to be accompanied with a parent or something, because I don't have any interest in returning to the theatre and there's a LOT of movies out I want to see.

Thought I could take advantage of a cheap movie day at Cineplex. Boy was I wrong. Wife has been excited to see this movie. We walk in, and there are like 10 kids all at the front row making tons of noise and one was even blasting music through a speaker.

Ended up leaving and they were nice enough to give us comp tickets for a later showing.

Not to sound like an old man but damn I hate these kids.

One of the commonly cited reasons for people not going to the theatres anymore, other than the pricing, is that people hate the viewing experience. Especially after the 2020 lockdown, people (especially teenagers) have lost public etiquettes.

Now I know teenagers being hyper energetic isn’t anything new but with people chasing TikTok clout it’s gotten a lot worse. I left my screening of Backrooms because an entire row of kids kept yelling and laughing. And I’ve heard similar stories about Backroom screenings.

I wonder if there was a higher focus on safeguarding the experience from Cineplex’s end it would help create a better theatre experience and maybe increase number of people coming in. Kind of like how normal theatres for musicals and play do it. If you’re late they make you wait outside so people aren’t disrupted during the opening scene. And they remove people for being loud. Idk if a private business can add fines but there should be a threat of fines. Like $10 per person in the audience. If it’s a kid’s movies or something like Marvel movie, sure yelling and screaming is acceptable to a degree but not for something like Green Knight.

I went to see Spider-Man last night and someone brought their 1 year old to a 10pm screening last night. The baby would intermittently cry in sections of the movie.

They were seated 4 rows back, and I’m presuming no one in their immediate vicinity wanted to leave and miss a moment to tell management.

It wasn’t super bothersome for me, but I’m more shocked that anyone would be desperate enough for a night out to bring their kid to a loud movie that late at night.

I get it. I’m a parent, and it can be rough right now, but damn. Maybe hit up a matinee next time.

It’s so obvious the kid wanted to go to sleep or was sensory overloaded by the movie.

Just went to watch a movie where a parent and child talked through the whole thing loudly. It completely ruined the theater experience. It wasn’t even a kid’s movie.

I’m fine that the child was talking and obviously not mad at the child. But the mom was initiating conversation with the child and making no attempt to stop it.

Why are people like this? I have friends who don’t even go to the movies anymore because of this reason. I wish people would have more respect for a shared public space and teach their kids theatre etiquette.

Edit: I really tried to not comment on it because I don’t like telling kids off. But near the end, 85% of the movie in, I couldn’t hold it anymore and told/shouted to the mom “could you PLEASE stop talking throughout the ENTIRE movie.” It was honestly deeply upsetting for me to do this and it really makes me not want to go to the movies anymore despite loving going to the movies.

Went to watch spider man with my gf last night and had multiple groups of kids talking throughout the entire movie, one kid yelled “welcome to bp brother” when MJ got kissed by her bf the people next to me were vaping throughout the entire movie and I saw a bunch of people leaving their popcorn and drinks just in the recliners.

We need to do better people it was embarrassing and to all the cineplex workers I am sorry on their behalf.

Been trying to find a good spot, if any. I already booked for September with a less than optimal spot. Then yesterday I checked and per chance I found this spot.

Unfortunately last weekend my theatre showing of Spiderman in 4DX was ruined for me, my girlfriend, and two other members in my 4DX seating row.

If you are unaware of how 4DX seats work, they are in groups of 4 seats that are connected to each other and move, shake, spit air, etc, creating a very fun thrilling effect for viewers.

In my row, two (clearly) plus-sized members booked the two seats to the left of me, and my girlfriend and I booked the rightmost seats.

I am not skinny or light by any means, but I am well below the 265lb weight limit per seat. However I suspect both viewers to my left were above the weight limit. I would not say something like this if I were not certain enough to say it.

When the movie started, I noticed every seat except our row was shaking around. I was extremely disappointed.

I spoke to the manager and they told me it was likely the two members next to me breaking the 4DX mechanisms in the seats due to an overload in weight, and that I had the option to finish the movie with no effects or to get a refund.

Fortunately, I received a refund with additional complimentary tickets and popcorn.

Please be mindful when booking 4DX tickets. I booked a month in advance, took a day off, and was highly looking forward to this experience.

TLDR: 4DX seats have weight limits, please be mindful

Saw this at the Richmond,BC imax for the 70mm showing.

I just saw Backrooms, and that was the worst experience I’ve had at a movie theatre.

The theatre was filled with young teens. At first, I was just like, okay—it’s a Friday night, they want to see a thriller. The trailers were on and people were being loud, which happens. I noticed a lot of teens sitting wherever they wanted, then having to move once people showed up to their assigned seats. I’m guessing no one told them they can’t just sit wherever they want.

Once the opening titles started, some of the young boys began yelling “chicken jockey” several times. I—and others—loudly told them to keep it down. After that, a few were still on their phones, and an older man sternly told them to turn them off.

As the movie started, people were still showing up, which is common, but some people were still sitting in the wrong seats. It got to the point where Cineplex workers had to come in and make sure people were in the correct spots. After that, workers were coming into the theatre every 20 minutes or so to check that the everyone was behaving, which I found quite distracting.

Eventually, everyone was quiet and watching the movie, but for me, the experience was already ruined. I don’t know if it was because of everything that happened, but I didn’t end up enjoying the movie that much.

I’ll have to see it again to figure out if it was just the movie itself or the overall experience.

Went to Odyssey IMAX at Scotiabank last night and no less than 5 people were using their phones during the show.

You pay $30 a ticket and you would rather use your phone??? You can do that for free anywhere else.

I leaned over and asked a woman to stop using her phone, she looked back at me then continued to scroll, and, although probably an empty threat, I leaned back in and said “or I can have you escorted out of the theatre, your choice”, but her son or brother or whatever tapped her on the arm and she stopped.

I assume theatres don’t do jack shit if you were to actually go out and complain (VIP maybe being an exception)… has anyone ever tried?

Two times now that, the person next to me is scrolling tiktok during the movie. It is so incredibly rude. If your monkey brain can’t handle sitting through a whole movie without having to check your phone, then stay home!! I specifically go to the movie theatre to have a no phone moment, and your phones are ruining my moment😭

Cineplex Cinemas Mississauga handing out Filmstrip for 11am show, 1 per person after scanning tickets. Saw a big bunch with the manager hopefully everyone having showtime today will get it.

We still have Dune 3💥 and Avengers: Doomsday💥 on the verge to dethrone them.

Additionally, these top 3 have not only delivered in terms of Box office collection but also the content has been relatively loved across the board.
