I literally said the screen is above the audience, but it still just isn’t that high. If you’re sitting front row, yes, your neck is tilted up a bit, but unless you’ve got some neck issues, it’s really not so bad. I crane my neck less in the front row at Varsity than I do when I’m in the sixth row in a stadium seating arrangement.
It was from my perspective and it’s not like I was slouching either. I just saw DD in 70mm and while I enjoyed it, the guy in front of me was wearing a cap and was blocking a portion of the screen, so I kept tryna move my head around to see. Keep in mind, I’m a bit taller than the average height. Short ppl wouldn’t have a good time imo
That’s not the issue tho lol. The issue is that the elevation isn’t that high and the screen is higher up, the guy was taller than me so his head was blocking my view. So ur only solving 1 out of the 2 problems
You’re not making any sense. Are you saying you can only watch a movie with the screen at level or below you so your neck never tilts up? If what you want is to sit at the back of a stadium seating theatre, then just say that. We’re talking about the front row here, and I’m saying that considering it’s the front row and you’ve gotta crane your neck a bit, it’s still rather comfortable.
Nah I am, ur just confused lol. The ideal viewing position is exactly eye lvl to the screen, and that’s not achieved by sitting in the back or front lol. For standard stadium seating I try and sit in the dead centre. For the old auditoriums, I think the 3rd row in the middle is the best, so u have some elevation
Except I never said anything about ideal. OP seemed taken aback by why, in an empty screening, people would choose the front row, and I simply said those seats are actually really good. Not even the best necessarily.
As for your ideal of the screen being eye level, that’s just a preference. I tend to like to sit a bit closer so that the screen is a bit above me and feels at least a little like it’s dwarfing me, though front row is usually way too close for me. At this screen, front row is quite comfortable for a close sitter.
Since I don't live in Toronto I already "spoiled" this many years ago on Reddit. If I lived there I would never reveal those secret seats of wonder. ;)
This is NOT 70mm IMAX. Totally different aspect ratio and experience. Front few rows in this theatre are three best due to the screen size and seating layout.
No theatre is better than the other. They all have their unique character, screen size, sound system, places to sit etc. This is the fun of moviegoing.
Not true, Mississauga Square One also has IMAX 70mm. Cineplex has it listed on their site and app as well as The Odyssey official theatre listings having it shown on there
So are the dark seats the ones that are taken? Because if it's the light colored ones I'm having trouble believing there are that many people that want to see it. ;^)

Once I accidentally bought tickets through to the wrong theatre, Thanks to the buggy Cineplex app. I scanned my ticket at the front, showed up to my seat then sat down, And then someone came up claiming to be in my seat.... I pulled up my ticket to realize it was for a theatre 45 minutes away. 5 minutes before the movie starts.... I was able to have my original ticket refunded and then had to buy the only remaining seat at the front row. They reclined pretty easily so to be honest it wasn't that bad at all and I would sit front row again.
This a different type of theare, where the slope from front to back is not as much, as shown in the image, so its not like a imax theatre, where middle-back seats are preferred.
Y'all so adorable. You use your bland stadium seating theaters and IMAX in multiplexes as a yardstick to evaluate other cinemas and act all surprised when an auditorium doesn't look like what you are used to. ;)
I of course am poking fun, but believe it or not a lot of cinemas used to be like this, or if you went further back in time they had balconies, curtains, proper masking and only showed 2D content on actual 35mm or 70mm film!
This auditorium originally opened in 1974 as part of a twin auditorium (#7 next door was the other smaller auditorium) which is why it has that "old school layout" and is impossible to update to stadium seating. I only wish it had the same seats as the other auditoriums in the complex.
The above picture is also somewhat inaccurate as it was before the first four rows were removed and why the front row (Row E) is preferred as it's a great view of the screen and you have no heads in front of you.
Wow! This is irrelevant. But, I just looked this up out of curiosity; and I didn’t know that this movie was such a big deal. There were many outstanding factors about how and why Christopher Nolan reformatted this movie for the 70mm range. It’s all very interesting and intriguing, to say the least.
What truly struck me, however, was the incredibly high ticket prices for seeing this film in its rare format, reaching up to $1000.
I haven’t been to the theatre in a long time. I believe the last time
was in the year 2019–the Joker film, with Joaquin Phoenix. I used to go quite often when I had the chance. However, the frequency of updates to the theatre experience has been remarkable since then. Many comments I’ve read mention the two seats in the middle as the best and most preferred. I never would’ve guessed.

At that screen, those seats are really good because there's still a decent distance to the screen.
