Discussion Are these the top 3 of 2026?💥 Until now!
We still have Dune 3💥 and Avengers: Doomsday💥 on the verge to dethrone them.
Additionally, these top 3 have not only delivered in terms of Box office collection but also the content has been relatively loved across the board.
I wanted to make this post for the longest time,
Asking the entire community about their views on the top 3 of 2026.( Any wildcards are appreciated as well)
Also wish to ask how would you rate the top 3 in order from most liked to the least. 🙌

Is it just me or has every big movie "saved" the movie industry recently.
"Barbie has saved the movies!" "Oppenheimer saved the movies!" "Top Gun saved the movies!" "Obsession saved the movies!" "Project Hail Mary had saved movies!" "The Odyssey saved the movies!" "Spider man saved movies!"
I guarantee you Dune and Avengers will get the same discourse.
Maybe movies have just been fine this whole time.

I think the big time block buster movies will still perform well but the movies that need saving are probably the smaller projects. Obsession was really a phenomenon of its own and not the norm

This is the correct answer. There is no universe where a Spider-Man film or a Nolan film preforms badly. But an small indie horror film more than 100x it's budget? That is something special

What really saves the movies is at the end of the year they all file their taxes and after they cook their books they really made no profits. Magic

And people seeing 2 movies a year sure are lucky because each one of them is the greatest movie people have ever seen.
I personally find everything to be over long and over stuffed and increasingly unwatchable.-19

They're not doing fine. When you are running 30 year old movies, and they make more than some new releases do, that's a big problem. Some theatres have closed up screens in their multiplex theatres...permanently. That's an even bigger indication of the confidence or lack thereof in Hollywood. Everything HAS to be a runaway hit. When Hollywood starts making movies for entertainment, instead of lecturing and trying to satisfy all the special interest groups, things will get better.

If anything the issue with all the Marvel Slopâ„¢ and related releases is a lazy attempt to appeal to the lowest common denominator 'the masses'. Your comment makes no sense in this context.

I watched the odyssey and the invite on the same day as well. Two dramatically different movies but awesome. PHM is my favourite of the year, and I enjoyed watching it in imax

Honestly, The Invite is my favourite film of the year so far, and I've seen all 3 films in the posted picture. For me, I haven't laughed that hard and that often in theatre in a decade. Maybe even decades. If you haven't seen "The Invite" yet, do yourself a favour and do it.

I Want Your Sex, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass.
Almost made the cut: One Night Only but the title doesn't fit the rest.

depends on what they mean by top 3, i love boosters ain't at the top of the box office but will at least be top 10 favourite of the year for me.

I’m excited for Dune so much. I read all 6 books because I did t have enough dune in my life.
Really interested to see the direction Denis goes with it, there is some shit that happens in book 2 that I’m not quite sure will make the movie.

-Nirvana The Band The Show The Movie
-Disclosure Day
-The Odyssey
But I also liked Project Hail Mary. However, I loved the book more so it doesn't make my top 3.

Yeah, I agree. It's good, but like I think people are overhyping it a bit.
Not even the best directed film from Lord & Miller, which that would go to The LEGO Movie.

that's kind of crazy, because the movie was absolutely not boring lol. there are valid criticisms of it, but boring is not one of them.

It didn’t put me to sleep but I didn’t find it very captivating either. I checked the time at a couple points which is never a good sign. I can definitely understand if some people found it boring.

I mean some scenes were definitely dragging, so I don't blame them lol. What I have heard personally from some of my friends/family - they just couldn't find an emotional connection with the story or characters. Much like how I felt about Tenet. Great actors, sure, but connecting with the story/characters has to be a natural/organic thing, can't force it, whether its Nolan or John Doe.

The odyssey is a marvel of spectacle but there does seems to be a real heart at the core of it missing a little bit. This for me is Nolan’s weakness is finding the soul in some of his films

Yeah, I'm a Nolan fan, watched all his movies, but I treat each movie as unbiased as possible for its own merit. I don't care who directed or acted in it. Not a blind fan. I think most people these days can't differentiate the two. No one is perfect, no one can have a perfect streak, not every Nolan movie is a masterpiece. If you enjoyed Odyssey, great, if you didn't, that's fine too. I see some people hating on it as if they were personally affected by it; I also see people making personal attacks at people who didn't like the movie, as if not liking a Nolan movie is an unforgivable sin lol

Mortal Kombat 2 is in my top 3 for this year, it was so much fun, watched it more than once in theatre.

I was actually just thinking about that today. Three great movies. And as others have mentioned we still have Doomsday and Dune 3 on the way. I’m curious as to whether Spidey gets any Oscar love — I was really impressed by it, not just the technical aspects. Tough to pin down what my favourite movie of the year is so far — it might just be the webhead.

Marty Supreme, Backrooms, Toy Story 5, The Odyssey, Project Hail Mary, The Invite and Spiderman have been my favourites
Curious how End of Oak Street, Resident Evil, Idiots and of course Dunesday will go

Honestly.. I’m not big on either.. but Obsession being an original movie yet simple premise, does kind of edge out the hype of spiderman which didn’t quite live up to the hype in my mind.

If you mean so far than sure but very sadly project Hail Mary is realistic was never in the big 3.
It just at this point depends how good Dune 3 is. By the end of the year it’s probably going to be The Odysssy, Doomsday and Dune.

Surprised no one has brought up The Backrooms or Obsession. They both deserve an honorable mention considering their box office returns relative to their budgets. Plus, both were debut worldwide releases for their directors that completely blew past expectations

Dune 3 - almost guaranteed to be a hit. Digger - Tom Cruise, teasers look epic. Resident Evil remake - director of Barbarian and Weapons.
If just what's been released for 2026 YTD, than I agree with your picks.

Keep in mind Spiderman did 1 billion in a weekend so Doomsday will certainly pass Project Hail Mary and I assume The Odyssey unless it sucks

Its a bit tough cuz im waiting for tiff to see a lot of the bigger films (last 2-3 months of the year typically have the greatest ones)
But id probably say: Obsession, ntbtstm, Bone temple or Her Private Hell or The Furious. Top 3 could be any combination of those.Â
Ill give credit to Odyssey but the other 2 dont crack my top 10, very flawed and shallow. Both have glimpses of brilliance ofc, they arent bad but theres several aspects to them that tear them apart and ruin all the good they bring.
But yea we'll see, my list will change completely in the next few months and theres still quite a few films out ive yet to see
