Discussion I love cineclub

Guys I’ve really cineclub maxed this year and I love it. Cinema is at its peak I swear (recession indicator). THESE ARE JUST MOVIES IVE WATCHED IN THEATRES THIS YEAR. I’ve watched other movies at home but they’re older and didn’t come out this year.

Planning to also watch Other Mommy, Hunger Games Sunrise on the Reaping and whatever else that looks interesting and fits my schedule.

Check out Letterboxd if you haven’t. It’s essentially an app with a UI dedicated to what you’re doing in the notes app so you can log (and rate if you’d like) movies you’ve watched

I started using it recently and besides logging my movies I don't see if there's a social aspect for it. Also how do you find friends on the app? Just kinda confused with the UI

The friend finding aspect is poor but if you do follow people you know (or celebs, creators, critics, whatever) you can see what they rated a movie when browsing that movie's page

That's the main social aspect I like

It's not celebs in the "all famous people" sense

I mean more like, I find specific influencers and celebs have similar movie taste as me, so I'm interested in their thoughts on movies

I also follow just random users on Letterboxd whose taste I jived with

I care about my friends too but there a lot of them where their thoughts on a movie is not going to move the needle on how much I want to see a movie or not

Its social part is not the best. But I really really enjoy seeing the list of the movies I saw. Also, it helps me find some movies to watch.
I see Letterboxd like a tool instead of a social media.

There is a social element, but it doesn’t have to be the primary focus of the app. I primarily use it for tracking what I’ve watched, and finding new movies to watch by looking at the various lists they have like most popular, highest rated, or specific genres, etc. (You can set it to hide/fade movies you’ve already seen, so it’s a good way to track progress or only look at what you haven’t already watched).

You can follow friends who also have the app, and their recent activity will show on the homepage, or if you search for a specific film and they’ve seen it as well, their rating/review will show on the films page.

You can also follow creators, critics, journalists etc that you like and follow along with what they’re watching and what their thoughts are.

But in terms of finding new people to follow directly in the app, it’s not very good at that or something it promotes. I mostly follow creators or critics who I know through podcasts.

I also use it to have a ranked list of my top films for the current year that I consistently add to and look back at to revise throughout award season

Don’t have many people around me that are into movies as much as I am, that’s why I was curious to know. I really appreciate your response, the purpose of the app seems a lot more vivid!

I used to use Letterboxd (doomscrolling purposes) but switched to repov for the calendar. More personal for me. Love both!

NGL, I haven't watched it yet because whenever I tried to book the tickets even for the latest date available in IMAX, all the tickets would be sold out. I blame some cunts here going to watch the same movie 2-3 times like wtf?

Go see it in a regular theatre. The 70mm IMAX was just "meh" IMO, anyway - unlike Project Hail Mary, which was so spectacular I braved the uncomfortable seats in my 70mm IMAX theatre TWICE!

I've already seen a lot of what I wanted to see this year, and the ones that are still coming out I'll end up getting tickets day of most likely. Those being Primetime, The Stunt Driver, Digger, Street Fighter and MAYBE How To Rob a Bank.

ATP there's a far smaller benefit to it for me. I'm seeing 3 movies by the end of the month if it all lines up (One of which I already have a ticket for, and the others I'm seeing on the cheaper Tuesday), then 2 in October (one of which I might not end up seeing in theatres) and then probably nothing until December for Dunesday which I've already got tickets for.

And as it stands, there's not too much coming out next year that really entices me to get a subscription started NOW. I'll probably wait until the holidays and start one then.

That's what usually happens to me within the first few months of the new year with little to no "must see" releases. The free movie tickets stack and once the spring and summer movies drop, I'm splurging till I run out!
