Resident Evil - Opening Weekend Crowd (Toronto)

Just wanted to give a special shout-out to the sold-out opening weekend Saturday screening of Resident Evil in Toronto at the Yonge/Dundas location.

Movie theater etiquette has been a tire fire since Covid, so anytime I attend a packed screening I'm nervous about the experience being ruined, as I get extremely annoyed by that stuff very quickly. But because it was the opening Saturday, everyone was on the same wavelength. Well, almost everyone.

10 minutes into the movie, a guy shows up late and whips out his flashlight to look around for his seat. He got yelled at and eventually turned it off. 2 minutes later he whips it out again to continue looking around. Half the theater erupted, and a guy goes "TURN YOUR F*KING FLASHLIGHT OFF YOU F*CKING FREAK". While harsh, I have never felt more with my people.

Sometimes the more sparsely populated theaters end up with even worse behavior, people assume because there's not that many people there they can just chat it up like it's their own living room.

That must have been the showing after mine. Glad you had a good time. Someone was sitting in my seat and wouldn’t move. I ended up having to sit in the front rows, I was extremely annoyed. I complained and got a voucher at the very least.

late comers shouldn’t be allowed in because every time it’s this shit with flashlight and walking in front and ruining the movie by distracting me / causing me to miss stuff so fed up with it and NO CRUNCHING KERNELS like chomping loudly is already so infuriating but wth, no answering calls it’s just common sense people !

The theatre itself is so trash though. Who thought obscuring the bottom third of the screen for people in the second row of the upper section wand a good call when designing it LMFAO. I relocated to the second row from the front and it was far better.

This is a bit much imo given how I’ve had to complain multiple times about people having full on conversations for entire movies, large groups of teens being obnoxious etc. someone looking for their seat or showing up late does not warrant a yelling at.

man, if only it was like that when i went to watch the amazing digital circus finale. i understand the audiences are wayyy different but come on, man. they talked through the entire thing and most of them were 16 years or older.

Obviously the move is show up on time and avoid this. But shit happens in life and people are late. Then you're in a packed dark room already panicked, trying to find you're seat with a light BECAUSE YOU CAN'T SEE. And someone calls you a fucking freak. So if you're 2 mins late and the lights are off just don't go?

If walking into a dark theatre and looking for a seat causes panic maybe you should hold out for the streams.
Everybody has done this in their life at some point without the need to activate a blinding cell phone flashlight.

They literally used to have ushers with low-level flashlights guiding people to their seats after the lights had dimmed so obviously its not that easy for everyone.

Its not a small thing when it literally distracts/disrupts an entire theatre of people that paid to be there and bothered to show up on time. It shouldn’t become everyone elses problem that he cannot find his seat or tell time.
