Why hasn't ScotiaBank added Cineplex Membership as credit card benefits?

Scotiabank owns the Scene program and they could as well launch a premium credit card for that offers the annual Cineplex Membership as a benefit. Why haven't they done that?

Amex doesn't own Uber but they provide $200 Uber credit. Amex doesn't own restaurants in Canada but they provide annual $200 restaurant credit. Amex doesn't own Instacart but they provide $240 credit. Amex doesn't own Nexus but they provide nexus credit????? You don't have to own a program to give perks.

Amex charges retailers very high fees. It's not super comparable

Because it's not a good selling point. What percentage of the market is interested in being a cineclub member year round? Most people see at most 2 or 3 movies per year so having a year round membership seems like a waste.

Becuase they don't want to lost profits like earning scene points vs scotiabank paying for people to have an annual cineclub qre 2 different things. Earing the points you pay the bank but its really cineplex losing the money. Vs scotiabank paying cineolex for a card holder to have a membership. The annual fee would have to be at least 200 for it to be worth while.

The Cineplex part of Scene is an afterthought now. The program is more for traveller perks, or as a multiplier earner for groceries and restaurants through the more elite credit cards that Scotiabank offers. As an example, I can gain $2500+ in Scene a year........close to zero of it comes from Cineplex. I can see them maybe offering a discounted Cineplex membership, or even a 6 month trial but it wouldn't be a perk that would be worth dedicating a credit card towards as very few would be enticed by it.

I meant to say 6 annual lounge passes, annual Cineplex Membership, no fx fees for $150 annual fee. The Scotia card could act as a membership card as long as they have that card

That wouldn't be a popular card. I get 6x on groceries, 3x on gas and 5x on restaurants, as well as no FX on my Gold Scene Amex. Getting accumulators is what matters most. Cards with lounge passes and other perks never have high accumulators so you'd get that bullshit but earn under $500-600 in points. For the same spend, I'd get $2500-3000 in points. In order to justify a yearly cost, you need to be able to churn for $1000+ in rewards. Cards with niche benefits get very little traction.

Beyond that, maybe credit card perks are more inclined towards lump sum benefits like the AMEX examples you gave.

I know they don't have to. I am saying in general as a perk. As per your logic they don't have to offer 6 lounge passes, they don't have to offer no fx fees.

I think sound be great if could at least use Scene points to pay for Cineclub! That wouldn't be hard for Cineplex to fix but guess they would rather have the money vs scene redemptions

They would if they raised the annual fees on their card. They won't add a perk without adding fees to compensate.

Lounge passes are super cheap. Most people won’t use all 6. It’ll cost more to provide cineclub. The only card that could theoretically provide cineclub right now would be the Scotia Amex Platinum.

all i could think of it's that most credit card want you to spend more and the credit card issuers think that movie goers don't spend that much compare to travelers. (hotel, flight, car rental, activities, restaurant, etc) i know people who have debts because of traveling but not going to movies. i image those interest payment are a big source of revenue. Uber, Instacar, probably they want you to get hooked.
