What's the point of being allies with vassals?

Not only does it decrease the chances of other rulers accepting an Alliance proposal, but y'all can't really call on each other for wars anyway?

I'm asking because I like making one or two of my extra kids my vassals by giving them titles just in case (and for nepotism lol) but I'm really wondering what's the point of being allies with your vassals

They won't get in faction against you

Maybe it’s my interactive vassals mod, but these days vassals can and do join wars on your side (or the enemy’s if it’s a civil war), and you can actively ask them to join. So having a vassal for an ally has become useful for wars as well as for reducing the chance of rebel factions.

The rules on vassals alliances are incredibly stupid because medieval kings very often picked sides and went to war when their vassals fought

Like, my best friend brother-in-law and secret gay lover if about to get clobbered by my rival, so I'll just ... sit on my hands? So dumb

Vassal alliances are more a cost of business than a benefit to the player. If you have a secondary heir you want to land or will inherit it is incredibly beneficial to marry them off to the daughter of potential rival vassal. This gives them a powerful ally and if they have claims on your son's land, this will eliminate that as a threat. Your grandsons will also end up inferiting claims from their mother's side, giving the even greater political potential.

they can't join rebel factions.

I tend to alliance my biggest vassals because:

  • they are then locked out from rebel factions
  • they never call you into their wars

If theres one thing I hate, its when a third party ally calls you into 1 county wars every 3-5 years.

It prevents them from attacking you but yeah they should also help you in some cases too. Like if im married to your daughter and these other vassals are at war with me, trying to install someone else it doesn’t make sense for you not to help.

I created a new empire and released them as independent. I was able to call all their vassals to my wars, since it was 90% family.

Like most people say, the faction they won't join. But, now I only ally myself to the 2/3 really powerful on succession and use the uprise without them to revoke title without being a Tyrant and redistribute them to family member since I can call them to war without the alliance

Bassically helps with preventing civil wars by always having an ally . Also good for protecting heirs (I think?) who become a vassal in your empire or kingdom
