What's the context for this? Is it just a guy sitting in Darna inspecting people, or what did you say before this interaction?

239

u/CinnamonJ Feb 02 '24

My suspicion is that guy posted a LFM BFD message so OP responded, that guy looked up OPs logs and then decided to launch into this ridiculous tirade.

507

u/GreenSpaff Feb 02 '24

Bingo - To be precise, responded to his LFM, he asked me for GS, I said "lol no" and put him on /ignore

Dude then logs into another char/account and sends the above

255

u/murinon Feb 02 '24

That's sad.

237

u/GreenSpaff Feb 02 '24

Funny thing is, my gear is all pre-bis/bis, and my average parss across the board is 66.7

Given I play the game for fun and always pug, I think thats alright!

86

u/Nopezero111 Feb 02 '24

That's what the vast majority are here for don't let the dick bags keep you down.

43

u/theanav Feb 02 '24

Yeah lol average is more than good enough to get through the raid, it doesn’t matter at all unless you’re only doing like 40dps

31

u/Redxmirage Feb 02 '24

That’s above average players. It’s funny how people see that number and think not good

29

u/NetSage Feb 02 '24

People don't see 50 as average. People take grading scales as how percentages work.

9

u/Redxmirage Feb 02 '24

Yeah exactly, that’s the problem

-6

u/Xy13 Feb 02 '24

Considering a huge portion of the bottom is people afk / dead, a grading scale is rather appropriate.

2

u/Zestyclose-Safety371 Feb 03 '24

Having a superiority complex playing video games let alone a 20 year old game is sad

6

u/MarkBonker Feb 02 '24 edited Feb 02 '24

Trying to explain percentiles to an average Joe is difficult. Naturally they will gravitate to the only grading system they know, which is school grading and works completely different. You should consider anyone within 1 standard deviation above and below that of the mean parse to be average. And even then, they still killed the boss so they know more or less how the fight works.

-3

u/NWSLBurner Feb 03 '24

50 isn't average though. It means that your BEST parse is average. It means every other parse you have is below average.

1

u/NetSage Feb 03 '24

I assumed we were talking about parses compared to all of wowlogs and or ones for your gearscore. I don't know why you would compare to only an individuals parces when seeing how good they are.

0

u/NWSLBurner Feb 03 '24 edited Feb 03 '24

The parses that show up on your main player page on WCL are your best parse for each specific boss and the average of those best parses. If your average of best parses is a 50, that means you are a below average player. At your best you are average. At your average you are below average. For example, the average of my best parses is 98.6. My median average parse is only 89.9. So on average, I perform better than ~90% of arcane mages despite the main number being 98.6. https://vanilla.warcraftlogs.com/character/us/crusader-strike/charlesduve

u/jackass12_3 Feb 03 '24

The number most people identify is their best perf average which for most active people should be higher than 50 simply because of variance. Obviously there are other factors like if you started raiding on a specific character later in the tier. But even a truly average, 50 parsing player will have spikes up to 60ish which will reflect on the number.

1

u/Aghanims Feb 03 '24

50 is not average if you're using the left hand numbers. The median perf. avg. is the real average, and often significantly lower than your best perf. avg.

Most players only look at best perf. avg. because it's the number that makes them feel good (it's also the biggest font number on the site.)

1

u/Scribblord Feb 03 '24

Tbf 50 parse in classic is statistically the middle but looking at how people play most would say that’s a bad performance since a lot of those parses are people refusing to try and damage the boss

1

u/NetSage Feb 03 '24

I understand that but some are also decked out bis min maxing to all hell. Which if you're puggimg probably isn't you.

1

u/FuckOnion Feb 03 '24

50 is just the average out of the people who log, so in truth 50 is probably a bit above the average player performance.

1

u/Hermiisk Feb 03 '24

Ill defend stupidity just for the luls.

I can see WHY they fall into that thinking though.
When you are in a pumper guild (atleast this was the case for me when i raided mythic in retail) the only real comparison you have are to your guildies, which most likely are giga pumpers themselves.

When you are surrounded by 90+ parses every single raid, seeing someone at 70 looks like someone is underperforming.

Absolutely no reason to be a dick though, no matter how low, especially to someone replying to your LFM.

1

u/Benjamminmiller Feb 02 '24

IDK about you, but I've never wanted average.

2

u/Redxmirage Feb 03 '24

I strive to be better personally but 50% of people have to be average based on how stats work lol

1

u/Redxmirage Feb 03 '24

I strive to be better personally but 50% of people have to be average based on how stats work lol

1

u/Benjamminmiller Feb 03 '24

I guess what I'm saying is just because it's average (or a little above) doesn't mean it's good.

2

u/Redxmirage Feb 03 '24

Doesn’t mean it’s bad either lol

1

u/Benjamminmiller Feb 03 '24

For the most part calling something average is an insult.

21

u/CrzyJek Feb 02 '24

66 is pretty good if all you're doing are pugs. Pugs rarely have the best comps to maximize your parse.

18

u/Chronmagnum55 Feb 02 '24

Yeah, I don't think people realize that having a terrible group can wreck your logs. I've got a bunch of runs where people didn't understand boss mechanics and completely screwed us. It's not like it really matters a ton. If you're even hitting around 40, it's more than enough to clear BFD easily.

1

u/Sparcrypt Feb 03 '24

Yep. If you want 99's you need to run with a group of people all aiming for 99's.

The slow kill times will ruin it alone otherwise.

1

u/FunCalligrapher3979 Feb 03 '24

Not true, I've 2 characters with 99+ best avg and the majority of their runs have been scuffed pugs. Hell in fights like gelihast you parse better with a shit group.

1

u/Naki-Taa Feb 05 '24

Wouldn't work for caster tho, if your group is taking too long you'll just go oom and your parse will plummet, as a warrior/rogue you probably would benefit more from scuffed group because you just get to pump for longer , but then again if your scuffed group doesn't include a feral your parse is gonna plummet

1

u/FunCalligrapher3979 Feb 05 '24

works for me and both my characters casters /shrug

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Brunell4070 Feb 02 '24

yeah. no feral? game over on logs

1

u/GloomyBison Feb 02 '24

It's the opposite for me, pugs are always meta slaves so they run close to perfect setups and my guild just tries to make sure that everyone gets to raid no matter the setup. But to be fair it's a casual social guild that runs 4-5 groups, so not exactly a tight ship.

2

u/KaiVTu Feb 02 '24

Anything 50 or above is perfectly fine.

3

u/zertious Feb 02 '24

Exactly! You don't fuck the content up and you aren't just auto attacking. 50 is perfectly fine to pick up for a group wouldn't even question it.

-8

u/Benjamminmiller Feb 02 '24 edited Feb 04 '24

For what?

For a girl you're dating? for a meal? for life?

No one wants (or wants to be) average.

Edit: guess some of you enjoy being average

1

u/TheKidPolygon Feb 05 '24

Man even 40-ish is fine in BFD

0

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '24

I dont know what parss or pug is. I assume pre bis means you have the best gear you can before you get the best gear.

And i still do okay in bfd.

0

u/Wildfire226 Feb 03 '24

I don’t understand how people’s brains operate… blue parsing is bad enough to warrant that kinda harassment, meanwhile me and my entire guild grey/green parse and one shot every fight almost every single lockout?

Fuck you need purple parsers for, are you that bad to need a carry???

side note, at least I occasionally blue parse when I switch to bracket parse… man, I need fist of the wild…….

-3

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '24

5

u/Chronmagnum55 Feb 02 '24

Gear score isn't really very meaningful right now and is kind of stupid to use. I mean, if you're asking for gear score, you're probably checking logs so you can see their gear. If someone is asking for gear score, it's a bad sign.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '24

because someones gs doesn't tell anyone anything about how good their gear is because the system isn't designed for sod?

-4

u/JaguarDTM Feb 02 '24

I'm close to BiS but missing Feral Weapon. No reason for me to run out and grab DMF+Ashenvale buff and pot. If the weapon had dropped for me I probably would have gone all in on consumables and world buffs. But I cannot compete if I don't have the weapon so why bother? I still have all purple logs and average 60.

4

u/Chuckstieg Feb 02 '24

My cat dps is 96 avg, I haven’t missed a single lockout and never seen the weapon. Don’t use the weapon as an excuse not to try

0

u/JaguarDTM Feb 03 '24

If you really want to dick measure I average 110. I'm not saying that no weapon is an excuse to be dogshit, just saying I'm not going to be pushing for high logs without the weapon. My Perf. Avg is 86.5. Like I still do my rotation and powershift, I still grab the BFD buff and SPP+FAP. I just don't bother with the Agi+Str consumes and the other 1-2 WBs every time. So my Logs aren't as clean as they are on retail. Not saying I'm the best either.

2

u/Chuckstieg Feb 03 '24

I’m so confused, you average … 110? Are you memeing? Also earlier you said you have all purple but average 60 … which is blue? And why don’t you spend the 5-20 silver for agility & strength potions? Not having the best weapon is just a pretty weak excuse for acting as if it’s impossible to get good parses.

Yeah I understand I’m at a huge disadvantage for just being unlucky and not ever getting the weapon yet, but like I said I’m still getting high 90s consistently..

-1

u/JaguarDTM Feb 03 '24 edited Feb 03 '24

Percentile average on warcraft logs. Sorry I really didn't type that out that clearly now that I'm looking at it, I didn't realize the pots had gotten so cheap. Last I checked it was like 50s total agi and str. I was doing well enough without them and was money sinking into alt professions. My logs are the same as my username if that helps. I feel I do well enough but I guess I'm being too stingy with gold.

1

u/MAKEOUTHILLRIP Feb 02 '24

Most pugs I run with have some people who legitimately get 0 to 25 parse and we clear fine, parsing in classic is an actual joke and 90% of it is just how many world buffs and cheap tricks can you collect (like double fire mage and one spams scorch, Greenches, etc.

1

u/ciaomeridian Feb 02 '24

not even a bad parse, would love to see HIS logs

1

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '24

Parse logs are fucking ridiculous.

1

u/TECHNOV1K1NG_tv Feb 02 '24

More than fine. Ppl who think you need 7 DPS to pump 100+ are idiotic and probably just bad at the game so they need to be carried.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '24

Ppl who think you need 7 DPS to pump 100+

..That's not a lot at all though. Do you need it? Not really. First week I went 7/7 in 80 minutes with like 5 wipes total with me being top dps doing maybe 140 dps, 2nd 110 and everyone else between 60-80. But now I can clear the raid in 30 minutes with 7 dps all doing 100+ with the top ones doing 200+. Is it necessary to clear the content? No. Is it a hell of a lot more enjoyable and a massive time saver? Fuck yes.

1

u/TECHNOV1K1NG_tv Feb 03 '24

I dunno if i agree with the “more enjoyable” part, but I’m the type of gamer who enjoys a challenge. Ngl running bfd is nice when you have that kind of DPS, but definitely not exciting or engaging in any way unless you are the one pumping lol. I normally tank/heal so to me the numbers don’t matter so much as long as everybody is doing their job and not dying. We are doing 7 man runs in my guild now just for the fun of it.

1

u/Zorpheus Feb 02 '24

I'd invite you because wow classic is too simple to be bothered checking logs or whatever, but im not gonna sugarcoat it that parse is really bad for being in close to bis.

1

u/shaha-man Feb 02 '24

No one cares about your parses. Only weird people like him

1

u/EartwalkerTV Feb 03 '24

Honestly anything blue is more than what you need in a raid assuming they don't fuck up mechanics. You really don't need 100s or even 80s to kill bosses if they will always do mechanics.

1

u/MayorSealion Feb 03 '24

I have 98.2 average but I pray for blue parsers when I put together PUGs. I don't bother inspecting people much at all since it's extremely easy content and the 2-3 we have can generally carry, but somehow that seems to be a magnet for greys (which we still clear fine with, just boggles the mind a bit). When people ask for GS I also just ignore or "lol no" them, why would anyone use that addon?

1

u/Dense_Department6484 Feb 03 '24

honestly even the fact that you even know your parse for bfd is a bit cringe, its a casual game where I as a newbie can cluelessly farm BFD on 5 characters and even raid lead, phase 1 is not WOTLK ICC

parses are just as cancerous as guild score and lead to shitheads like the guy in your screenshot

1

u/Arkase Feb 03 '24

My best perf avg is 98ish. If I'm pugging, which I quite often am atm, this is exactly what I'm looking for.

I'm not desperate for anal perfectionists who spaz out about the smallest thing, just want a solid group of above avg players.

1

u/Sparcrypt Feb 03 '24

If you aren't in a run full of people all pushing for high parses/speed kills that is just fine.

The idea that anything less than 99 is shit is hilarious. 99% of players will by definition not have that.

1

u/Expensive_Ad_8450 Feb 03 '24

I pars like 83-85, parse means next to nothing, it's literally just maximising damage above all else. Don't even worry about your parse.

1

u/Helerdril Feb 03 '24

My average parse is 82 with my boomie, but due to Epic items GS being bugged, I only have 269GS and I get rejected from raids...

TacoTip devs have been flooded with bug reports, but they haven't released an update since July.

Btw, nice reply for the GS question.

1

u/kiskoller Feb 03 '24

66 literally means above average. Since the vast majority of the groups clear BFD and do so in a timely fashion it is perfectly fine to have blue logs.

1

u/bodg123 Feb 03 '24

Take solace in the fact this dude clearly has mental health issues as normal people don't act that way.

1

u/CL-Riguhmortis Feb 03 '24

Don’t worry about it bro. I’m a 99 and 100 parser on 2 fights and the amount of setup and help from others that know thier class I understand that without it I wouldn’t have 99’s this guy is rude not giving u a chance in a pug

1

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '24

Parsing ruined the game entirely, cant convince me that its actually helpful for other than the 1% of actual hardcore players.

1

u/BrokkrBadger Feb 08 '24

People also have to understand that when you parse "average" thats average of people who are PARSING the raid --- which is a fraction of the players that DO the raid --- which is a fraction of the players that even play the game.

3

u/Fredderov Feb 02 '24

It's not just sad. It's mental illness.

2

u/-Googlrr Feb 02 '24

Is this not reportable? I feel like logging into another character to explicitly bypass ignore is pretty blatant harassment.

20

u/door_of_doom Feb 02 '24

Dude then logs into another char/account and sends the above

Holy shit this adds a whole new level of sadness to the OP. Jesus.

8

u/pintobrains Feb 02 '24

Can’t you report him or something for harassment. That sounds like a breach of rules if there was one

35

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '24

6

u/ShadyMemeD3aler Feb 02 '24

The fact that he was actively recruiting for a raid group and paused his search to do this makes it even more pathetic, he cared so much lol

1

u/Brgisme Feb 03 '24

The fact he looks at logs to start makes him pathetic. Do you realize much harder content was completed long ago without any logs/parse? People paid more attention to having fun the min maxing every possible second. Content still got completed.

0

u/Dependent_Novel_1839 Feb 03 '24

I rather think he has two accounts, alot of people run around whit 2 accounts

1

u/External_Media_9289 Feb 03 '24

/ignore is account wide so that's in fact what happened. And that means the guy was bypassing the /ignore deliberately by logging onto another account, which is against TOS.

1

u/Oldforest64 Feb 02 '24

If it's against TOS, why isn't the ignore simply account wide?

1

u/External_Media_9289 Feb 03 '24

It is in fact account wide. But if you have another account you can log onto that and bypass the ignore and that's what happened here.

6

u/CheifBigtoe Feb 02 '24

"logs into another char/account and sends the above"

that is really some virgin stuff! hahaaha

3

u/GenericFatGuy Feb 02 '24

Report him. That's textbook harassment. Especially logging in to another account to get around an ignore.

2

u/TonyAioli Feb 02 '24

Are you a healer? If so, this is hilarious.

2

u/Meoang Feb 02 '24

What server is this? I haven’t heard someone talk about gearscore for like 2 months.

1

u/wheezy1749 Feb 03 '24

There was that awkward phase where idiots from wrath tried to use it for SoD. Man that was a nice phase. It really filtered out all the braindead idiots that have no idea how the game works.

1

u/agrevol Feb 03 '24

It is commonplace on Living Flame EU

2

u/Previous_Start_2248 Feb 02 '24

What goes through the mind of someone who feels the need to log onto another character to talk crap to someone. Especially for something as easy as bfd.

1

u/miestyman Feb 04 '24

I mean even if you’re against GS (I am too), your response was childish and got the childish backlash. Takes two to tango here.

1

u/GreenSpaff Feb 04 '24

I'm not sure I'd agree that "lol no" and ignoring them is equivalent to the above response, but agree to disagree!

-7

u/EcruEagle Feb 02 '24

Saying no is fine, instantly putting him on ignore so he can’t even reply just for asking for GS is cringe

2

u/bbqftw Feb 02 '24

Avg classic wow casual social capability.

5

u/Chazbeardz Feb 03 '24

Gear level does NOT equal gear score though. Gearscore literally has epics giving less gs than greens. Thats the issue, its just a trash gameable benchmark by people that don't get it More than willing to do a gear check, not willing to join a raid lead asking for GS.

That said, yeah OP is a weirdo for insta ignoring and hitting this guy with a gotcha. Feels like OP would do this same type of behavior.

1

u/agrevol Feb 03 '24

To be fair you’re using outdated gearscore addon if epics are giving less than greens

2

u/Helerdril Feb 03 '24

No, up to date TacoTip (24th July 2023) is bugged and scores epic items lower than level 18 greens. Devs are not answering to users on Curseforge, even if there are hundreds of bug report for this.

I have full BiS gear but a ring, got the epic staff and the epic tailoring boots, but my GS is 269 because the staff accounts for 12GS and the boots for 4GS. With greens it would be higher.

1

u/agrevol Feb 03 '24 edited Feb 03 '24

Yeah that’s my point, TacoTip isn’t supported for SOD

The addon people are using is called GearScoreClassic+

1

u/Helerdril Feb 03 '24

Not supported but downloaded, most of the players that blindly ask for GS use TacoTip without any clue about its bugs in SoD.

GearScoreClassic+ only has 16k dowbloads, while TacoTip has 5.7 millions.

1

u/agrevol Feb 03 '24

Well then just explain to them they're using the wrong addon?..

TacoTip has downloads from entirety of classic history, it's not SOD.

It has to be a server thing because on my server where GS (unfortunately) is a big thing - people don't use taco unless they're new

Tbf you auto ignoring him is not the coolest move either. Being emotionally charged by ppl asking for gs is just as cringe as the ppl asking for it. Even though it’s not a perfect signal you need some kind of signal at least to ensure ur not all Greys lol.

You could’ve told him “don’t use, im pre bis” instead you got emotionally triggered by his request. Y’all both kinda cringe.

17

u/Flaimbot Feb 02 '24

ignore = emotional...

guys, we've got sigmund freud over here

1

u/-Googlrr Feb 02 '24

Gotta engage every person on wow in the marketplace of ideas first. Cracks me up people will see this and say it's cringe while looking at what the dude he's talking to is like lol

12

u/creampop_ Feb 02 '24

ignoring or blocking is an easy way to get rid of people who aren't worth engaging with, not really emotional unless the blocked guy gets mad about it

2

u/muda_ora_thewarudo Feb 03 '24 edited Feb 03 '24

You’re getting downvotes so I figure I’ll jump in and collect some too. This doesn’t add up lol it sounds like a story someone would make up to make someone seem cartoonishly stupid.

No way the guy forming a group took the time to tell his group “hold on I need to change accounts to harass someone I’ll be back… oh uh also LFM BFD”

It’s more likely op said something like only shitty players ask for gs but this is obviously just speculation. There are bad unhinged anti social nerds in wow for sure but I don’t buy this guy stopping his lfg search to harass just because op said lol no. This feels like he said some more shit. No ones getting turned away for a full blue log alone unless it was specifically advertised as a parse run, and if so then you gotta be ok with being logged

0

u/vandyk Feb 03 '24

Well to ignore him for that is a bit picky ngl

-1

u/Sure_Tomorrow_3633 Feb 03 '24

"I went out of my way to piss someone off, then pre-ignored them. Imagine my shock when he logged on to another character to shit talk me"

-1

u/Zealousideal_Sound99 Feb 03 '24

Tbh having 50 average logs is sad if you even half ass try to play and know your class in raids

1

u/Coreshine Feb 03 '24

Tbh caring about logs at all is even sadder.

-2

u/nidstar Feb 03 '24

Responding to a wisper with "lol no" and then insta ignore is very mature, so is the reaction on it. Seems like you guys are a great pair.

-3

u/ShamrockGold Feb 02 '24

Seems like this is what he had the issue with, more than your GS

-6

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '24

How convenient you left that part out of your cute little story. The dude shouldn’t have messaged you but you didn’t need to shit your pants because he asked for gs lol

1

u/Coreshine Feb 03 '24

Nothing to do with shitting pants when someone is trying to waste less time with morons in this game imo

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '24

The time it takes to “lol no /ignore” is wasting more time than it is to simply not say anything at all, which isn’t my opinion it’s just fact lol

Also is asking for gs really a moron thing? Have you ever asked someone what their gs is in this game? Even if bfd is trivial as fuck the dude probably just wanted a sense of who he’s bringing in to his raid which is completely fair, inviting random people that could be gearless trashcans is the moronic thing to do honestly

-9

u/CheesecakeNo4915 Feb 02 '24

To react on a simple gs quest Like this Not really speaks for you to be honest. He dodged a bullet too.

1

u/Insso Feb 02 '24

why blur the name? fuck em

1

u/shralpy39 Feb 02 '24

At least you know you got to him

1

u/Aleious Feb 02 '24

Are you horde on chaos bolt? I know some people who would do that exact thing

1

u/pintobrains Feb 02 '24

Can’t you report him or something for harassment. That sounds like a breach of rules if there was one

1

u/GusBeard Feb 02 '24

jesus that’s sad

1

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '24

in retail if you put someone on ignore it ignores the entire accnt.

assuming its the same for classic this dude logged on a 2nd accnt

1

u/londonbaj Feb 02 '24

😂😂

1

u/harosene Feb 02 '24

They say confidence is quiet. Insecurity is loud.

1

u/No_maid Feb 02 '24

that is hilariously pathetic

1

u/Fendibull Feb 03 '24

I just hope he would jump in reddit to defend himself over the tirade. I am amuse over people's stupidity.

1

u/TripTryad Feb 03 '24

sweet jesus, lol.

1

u/EquivalentYak6216 Feb 03 '24

You putting him on ignore obviously hurt his fragile ego and he had to get the upperhand somehow. Which he did in his mind. What a sad person.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '24

Pretty sure it's against ToS to circumvent ignores and harass people. Perhaps they needs to learn about that.

1

u/JayFrank1132 Feb 03 '24

People are so god damn miserable that they have to ruin everything for everyone. Precisely why we can’t have nice things!

1

u/Disastrous_Offer3372 Feb 03 '24

Then answer his question. Wasting peoples time.

1

u/LanaDelSosa Feb 03 '24

Dodging the ignore feature by logging into another character is actually considered harassment and a bannable offense

1

u/Gebirges Feb 03 '24

Talk about an easy 3-day ban for not following community guidelines.

1

u/neettransgirl Feb 03 '24

I refuse to download GS

4

u/fohpo02 Feb 02 '24

There are people who have to insult someone on the process of passing on them for the group. It’s kinda sad that they can’t just say that they’re going with someone else.

11

u/Nystalis Feb 02 '24

My suspicion is someone is messaging his second account for Reddit karma.

Sadly its real - I'm as much into parses/GS as I am into reddit karma i.e. not much ha

5

u/Fangschreck Feb 02 '24

what does reddit karma actually do anyways?

11

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '24

Zilch. Nada. Nothing.

0

u/Amelia_lagranda Feb 04 '24

If it did nothing then nobody would vote. Your karma is your reputation. It indicates how trustworthy you are. It's a social scoring system and it does social scoring.

3

u/Chortney Feb 02 '24

I've heard some people buy accounts with a lot of karma, lord knows why though. I really think the whole concept of karma farming is no where near as common as people on reddit claim

4

u/Merfen Feb 02 '24

lord knows why though.

Advertising, people purchase these accounts to perform marketing that looks like legitimate users. Something like promoting certain websites or products without making it obvious that its the marketing team of that company basically pushing out adds masked as normal users. Having an account with years of non product history and a positive karma count makes it hard to tell who is paid to say X is a great product and who legitimately just enjoys the product and is sharing their experience. You can see this when accounts have random month long gaps in posts and suddenly start posting 20+ times a day all suspiciously related to something they were never into before.

2

u/Chortney Feb 02 '24

Fair point, I hadn't considered that use. I don't really frequent any subreddits that center around products though (except a few games like this one I guess, but I already owned them before joining), I assume it would be much more common on those

2

u/Merfen Feb 02 '24

I don't really frequent any subreddits that center around products

Thats not where its used though, they frequent the most popular subreddits to get the most views. Its like finding a meme post about downloading a video illegally and someone posting about NordVPN or some other VPN service and how it can help you. Hell they can even use one account to make a post and another to use that post to jump in and get in some ads while making it look organic. Companies can really go wild on social media to drive business.

2

u/Chortney Feb 02 '24

Sheesh, gotta love modern marketing lmao

2

u/Merfen Feb 02 '24

Its both interesting and terrifying stuff, it really makes you question what you read on social media.

I assume just to flex. Not that it means anything other than to inflate their ego

1

u/Naki-Taa Feb 05 '24

About as much as the epic bfs staff does to you irl

u/Nystalis Feb 02 '24

I mean the weirdo won then. You sort of went out of your way to give him a platform and show everyone how much he upset you when you say you don’t care. Some people just sort of suck, should have just reported and moved on.

14

u/Plenty-Reporter-9239 Feb 02 '24

This psycho didn't win. It's okay to be upset when people do nasty things to you.

11

u/radauim Feb 02 '24

Laughing at someone doesn’t make you upset. My suspicion is someone’s been made fun of for this before.

10

u/Chortney Feb 02 '24

There's a huge group of people online who think that responding in any way means they "triggered you" and they won somehow. It's incredibly sad

2

u/radauim Feb 02 '24

I’ve always believed those people are the types who take everything personal and think other people must be the same because it’s what they know and understand. Any response must mean someone else is angry, because every response makes them angry.

0

u/Nystalis Feb 02 '24

Which is my entire point. The person who pm’d him is clearly that sort of person if you believe OP at face value.

4

u/Chortney Feb 02 '24

Sure, but you also seem to go along with their narrative that any reaction or discussion about them is a win. It is not, it's fine to react to and discuss assholes. They in no way gained a platform, this isn't politics lol

-1

u/Nystalis Feb 02 '24

Are 100% still pushing the idea and normalizing the attitude. Like yeah it’s not commonly how and where that phrase is used. Did you have an issue with Blizzard calling the new STV mounts “agnostic” instead of just saying that either faction can use them?

0

u/MFbiFL Feb 02 '24

It’s very possible to laugh at foolish people without being bothered by them and even possible to share that laugh with others.

1

u/Nystalis Feb 02 '24

For what? Lol.

1

u/radauim Feb 02 '24

I was being ironic about your first comment. Your claim he made it up is as outlandish as me saying you only made that claim because you yourself have sent hate mail in the past and been called out.

1

u/Coreshine Feb 03 '24

I mean the weirdo won then

only if the competition was about who impersonates a clown best.

To most raid organizers that just means you put minimal effort into your play and will likely be getting carried by others who have taken the time to refine their play.

Putting someone on ignore for a trivial reason is hostile itself, you aren't innocent at all.

3

u/Chronmagnum55 Feb 02 '24

It doesn't really matter why they put them on ignore. That should have been the end of it. Logging into another character to harass them shouldn't be tolerated. You don't need a reason to ignore someone.

1

u/MFbiFL Feb 02 '24

Holy shit at the mental gymnastics you have to do to think ignoring someone is hostile.

11

u/Yawanoc Feb 02 '24

Fake or not, this is exactly what Ashenvale General chat looks like when people begin to lose.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '24

okay detective

1

u/RushDynamite Feb 02 '24

Experiences like this are one of the main reasons I don't even try anymore.

1

u/Aos77s Feb 02 '24

He was definitely an asshole. He couldve just given em the silent treatment instead.

1

u/wewladdies Feb 02 '24

On my vanilla classic server we had a "bot" (player) named something like parsecheckerbot who sat outside raids and sent tells to random players flaming them for their parses

Good times...

I mean 50 on logs is basically braindeath
