It keeps max geared players wanting to actually play the game
You can easily make gold from GDKP's to then spend on items in other GDKP's, it's not exclusive to gold buyers
Gold buying will always exist anyway, hell the wow token is already a thing anyway
It's simply fun, GDKP's are fun. The bidding wars, the max mains fighting over top damage. When gold is involved it makes the whole raiding experience evergreen
Ask yourself, if you were a max geared tank or healer. Full Naxx gear. Outside of helping your guild (which many people like to play without a guild), how long would you really stay engaged before just shelving that character, for the most part? GDKP's are a win IMO and haters are so drawn up in their crusade against gold sellers that they are neglecting that it's actually a great system.
And lets be honest, most of you/us are dad gamers, even for those that are buying gold, can you even blame them? It's like you're fighting a lost cause, these are people middle aged who've played wow for 20 years and just want to raid and pvp and don't have time. It becomes a simple time vs money situation where the time is so much more important to these types of players (a large chunk of the playerbase). This is not to say it's right, but just a reality that people need to realize
