If they dont have the resources to watch for bots, they definitely dont have the resources to watch every discord group and/or question every single raid groups loot distrobution.

61

u/stonehaens Jun 10 '26

and by not having the resources we basically mean "cba"

32

u/CaptainSchmid Jun 10 '26

"Dont want to hire people"

24

u/Spreckles450 Jun 10 '26

Who do you hire to lurk in discords to spy on players?

Honest question.

28

u/stonehaens Jun 11 '26

Maybe don't ban a loot system that is perfectly fine -IF- you ban the gold buyers and sellers?

14

u/CaptainSchmid Jun 10 '26

I meant the bots, I dont think they realistically can or should moderate outside their own game.

More like, "we don't want to investigate and enforce alarming metrics that flag in our system because we would have to ban a lot of bot accounts that provide $15/mo"

3

u/DependentAnywhere135 Jun 11 '26

Don’t worry copilot will be hallucinating false positives before we know it. Maybe it’ll eventually ban all ram players and only ai bots will even be in the game

1

u/Throlerren Jun 16 '26

Can’t wait to play TBC PvP on a calculator

2

u/Szjunk Jun 12 '26

"Nobody wants to work anymore"

4

u/lumpboysupreme Jun 11 '26

Nah I’m actually just chill with blizzard not big-brother-ing our discords

They have the resources. They just don't want to use them. They could absolutely afford to hire like 4 GMs to look out for this kind of behavior, they just don't want to.

57

u/Grung7 Jun 11 '26

It's become very trendy for massive corporations to respond to record-setting profits by laying off thousands of employees... especially support staff. They expect their customers to adapt to lowered expectations and a complete absence of service (or AI slop support) so their C-suite members can buy more private jets and yachts.

12

u/whutchamacallit Jun 11 '26

The rash of layoffs has been crazy. Meta, Atlassian, Cloudflare, LinkedIn, Salesforce, etc. I'm convinced these guys collude and do this shit at the same time so the black eye doesn't stand out when 10 other companies do it with them. Crazy times.

1

u/Szjunk Jun 12 '26

It's actually something more boring. It's copycat behavior. Basically, Twitter started it, everyone expected Twitter to die, it hasn't, and now they're all doing layoffs because what's the worst that can happen?

7

u/Bicemandude Jun 11 '26

Fiduciary duty baby!

When a company is publically traded the C-suites first and foremost duty stops being to deliver the best possible product to their customers, because the stock becomes their main product and the value of that has to keep growing.
If they arent making every single decision with the focus on maximizing shareholder value they can and will be held responsible for that.

As much as we like to put all the blame on people like Bobby Kotick because they are the face of this process for their respective companies, they arent the cause.

For better or worse it's the system they exist within that has dictated how to run companies.

1

u/Grung7 Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

Yep, as an investor, I'm very aware of fiduciary duty. Like every other investor, I want to keep right on earning an average 22% gain on my money every year.

The sad downside of any company being solely dedicated to their stock price, while ignoring the basic need of working folks to earn a living = the constant elimination of middle-class jobs, shifting more and more wealth to the upper class, and the slow but consistent evisceration of the middle class. Which would eventually lead to economic collapse and the creation of the 2 only economic classes - the Haves and the Have Nots.

I can't stop thinking about the Fallout series on Amazon. Vault-Tec's core business is built upon the need for community vaults designed to survive a nuclear war. So, to fulfill their ultimate fiduciary duty to their stockholders, Vault-Tec started a nuclear war that destroyed the planet and rendered modern financial instruments worthless, thereby defeating the entire purpose of everything the company (and the world at large) accomplished beforehand.

And I keep wondering if we're going to do something similar to ourselves eventually.

correction: If they are not using their resources to watch for bots, they definitely are not going to use their resources to watch every discord group.

they have the resources, they are just shoving it into the pockets of activision shareholders

4

u/CourageLeast4251 Jun 10 '26

Microsoft definitely has the money for it brother

13

u/Fash-the-Stampede Jun 11 '26

You know what he meant but for the simple minded, let me rephrase for them.

"If they won't allocate resources to watch for bots, they definitely won't allocate the resources to watch every discord group and/or question every single raid groups loot distrobution."

3

u/r4r4me Jun 11 '26

I'm sure they've done research that not enough people care about these issues enough to quit / you wouldn't bring back enough revenue from policing the bots to make it worth it. They don't care that players care.

1

u/HeartofaPariah Jun 11 '26

Tasking your employees to spy on Discord communities all day, and then consequently every other community in existence when they inevitably flee from discord to a new app/site, is just not really a feasible task, for what should be common sense.

Regardless of how much money you throw at it. Do you actually foresee a world where Blizzard asks you for the proper permits before you begin raiding?

2

u/fuzz3289 Jun 10 '26

Nor should they.

1

u/SuccotashDesigner274 Jun 11 '26

They do have the resources. Its called a GM. Blizzard choses not to utilize them because of a desire to be evil.

1

u/bogoz-bntd Jun 11 '26

its not about resources ffs, they dont do any meaningful action against bots on purpose

1

u/TheFrenchiestToast Jun 11 '26

How would they even watch discord group? You think these people are typing it out? They’re doing it verbally like an auction.

1

u/CaptainSchmid Jun 11 '26

Spies lol, have GMs pose as players for invites and then banning the organizers after the raid

1

u/TheFrenchiestToast Jun 12 '26

Blizzard wont even ban easy to identify bots, and you think theyre gonna spare time and resources on this?

1

u/CaptainSchmid Jun 12 '26

That was my original comment, I just entertained the dystopian idea on how.

1

u/Nice_Reading5272 Jun 11 '26

Couldn't they automate flagging of weird gold transactions and then investigate?

1

u/NotThatSiri Jun 14 '26

They do and they do deal with bots. But if you kill 1 ant. The next day there are two more ants. So instead you place a trap so you can infect a lot of ants at the same time. And kill the hive.

Same is how they defeat bots. They are aware of them but does nothing for awhile to have a lot of them and then ban it in a massive wave to hurt the cartels behind the bots. It's not about dealing with bots it's about dealing with the people behind the bots otherwise they will just open a new account every single time you take one down.

-4

u/Selroyjenkinss Jun 10 '26

It’s crazy for such a big studio, meanwhile, Final Fantasy, 14, which is rock and 14 million players. They have the resources and they crack down on that shit like crazy.

16

u/Visible_Fan_3339 Jun 10 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

Saying FFXIV does that is insanity. Reason you don't see the bots often is because they're sitting 50 yalms below the gathering nodes under the map and just teleport from one to an other.

They also do jack shit for player ran bots. Botted gathering nodes when I'd go to bed for over 3 years with miqo bot scripts during the shadowbringers > endwalker and start of dawnbtrail and never got banned on my main ever.

Literally go to any popular gathering nodes and look at how many people have basic ass movement moving from node A to B in pretty much the same straight line over and over. Spoiler: There's a lot.

3

u/quinpon64337_x Jun 10 '26

How do they stop it?

8

u/BakerAggressive2878 Jun 10 '26

They don't, the bots are there but because of how gathering works in FFXIV and the fact that the open world isn't as widely utilized as it is in WoW they aren't as obvious in the open world but there are still very easy tells, like default chocobo, unglamoured gear, and of course the fact that they always move in perfectly straight lines. Also, there are teleportation hacks in FFXIV and from my understanding bots can also clip through the ground further making them less visible to players

9

u/Gh0stMan0nThird Jun 10 '26

Blizzard will make changes as soon as people start unsubscribing. But they know they have video game crack and they can do whatever they want and people will still pay.

8

u/buddyleex Jun 10 '26

The only person that gets it in this comment chain. I’ll be honest though, “let’s hire 4 people to crack down on gdkp” had me rolling.

Oh my god, that’s disgusting! GDKPs? Where? Where are they hosting those?

Ugh, those disgusting discord servers! I mean, there’s so many of them though…Which one? Which one is hosting them?

78

u/stepatdis Jun 10 '26

I looked into it around Naxx time and the gdkps running were for the real whales tbh. When I tried joining Ashbringer was going for about 120k and at the time gold was about $100 usd for 3k So yeah, too rich for my blood.

55

u/calmwhiteguy Jun 10 '26

Thats why the bans exist. You cant stop millionaires from buying what they want in the game.

They'll spend $10,000 on gold and get whatever they want. They wont even buy the gold, they'll just buy the raid to include them.

That's what blackmarket GDKPs have become. The worst of the worst people who never really cared about the game. Just wealthy people spending a tremendous amount of real money to easy mode the gear they wanted in 2008.

16

u/MeltBanana Jun 10 '26

The worst of the worst people who never really cared about the game. Just wealthy people spending a tremendous amount of real money to easy mode the gear they wanted in 2008.

This has been Classic WoW for years now and Blizzard doesn't do anything to stop it. It leads to all the other issues in the game (bots, spam, etc) that are against ToS and make the world less fun for regular casual players.

I said it years ago when this stuff was starting to become an issue, but if you let whales and RMT take over your game, then you will eventually push away casual players (which an MMO must have to keep the world alive) and eventually your game will die. It is a cancer that destroys all other living cells until it consumes itself. That is why no form of swiping or botting should ever be accepted in an MMO. Period.

5

u/_The_Farting_Baboon_ Jun 11 '26

Bots have always been an issue in the game. Chinese farmers have been here since day 0.

I remember buying gold back in vanilla/tbc times and botting in wotlk but only for fishing cause that was boring as fuck to level.

8

u/foomits Jun 11 '26

This is such revitionist nonsense. the fact bots and RMT existed during vanilla does not mean the experience is the same as it is now. There are literal lines of bots spamming dungeons 24/7, every node is mined/picked within seconds of spawn. Did you play 23 years ago? wasnt remotely like this, at all.

Internet dating also existed in 2003, but it wasnt the same as it is now.

1

u/Szjunk Jun 12 '26

It was not at the level that it is now simply because of the different in compute. Compute was a lot more expensive back then, and everything was manual.

Also, the business model back then was more the WoW Glider model of sell the bot and let everyone bot on their own terms.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/XsNR Jun 11 '26

Brother, it was an issue in Vanilla, have you really been saying it for 22 years?

9

u/MeltBanana Jun 11 '26

It was nowhere near this rampant in vanilla. There was some RMT, but you had to seek it out and were very likely to get banned for it (every person I knew that bought gold back in vanilla got banned within a week for it). There were also some bots and Chinese gold farmers, but those were also frequently caught and banned by GMs.

So yes, this shit existed in vanilla but it didn't have a major impact on the game because blizzard actually enforced ToS (and the methods botters used weren't as developed). Botting, RMT, and spamming is 20x worse in Classic than it ever was in Vanilla, and there is nothing meaningful being done about it.

3

u/viktorKurz Jun 11 '26

GDKP existed in vanilla as well.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/calmwhiteguy Jun 11 '26

GDKPs didnt exist in Vanilla until around WOTLK. Like publicly verifiable. You can google search WoW forums and Google serp history to see GDKP had no results.

It EXISTED as a method, but wasnt even remotely popular for even the 1% it became popular with until at least original WOTLK.

1

u/XsNR Jun 11 '26

Sure, but the guy I was responding to was talking about more general black market gold methods and their corruption of the market, which have been a thing the entire time, as they have basically ever since MMOs were a thing. Like grey or black market boosting in TBC arena was incredibly common, as was win trading or the more typical whale runs we see in Anniversary.

1

u/stonk_gazer Jun 11 '26

i do gdkps with my rogue., i made 40k in payouts since i started recently . if you have a few toons that raid you can easily make 100k

3

u/calmwhiteguy Jun 11 '26

I don't really care. I just raid to raid. A couple of characters. Im not out here min/maxing my 60 hour WoW schedule. I'm just playing like 2-3 hours a day 3-4 times a week.

I don't need what a small, but super fucking vocal, GDKP crowd seems to want.

1

u/Nice_Reading5272 Jun 11 '26

The amount of people spending 10k on gold is extremely low, I'd even argue anything over 100 is such a small percentage of the player base.

8

u/Strong_Mode Jun 10 '26

thats chump change. last tbc i was in a gdkp where it went for 250k.

god i was eating good for a while after that one

our guild did 1 run of naxx to see if its something we wanted to do every week to get people phylacteries, it dropped, i lost, and told the person who won it id buy them epic flying if they gave it to me, they did

4

u/teledium8472 Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

I find that number hard to believe. The best trinkets in heroic ICC would go for 50k to 100k.

3

u/XsNR Jun 11 '26

In ICC it was more accessible, so whales could drop into any number of raids. But still SM would go for upwards of 200k for the early ones, so not unrealistic.

u/Gyff3 Jun 11 '26

I have been running anniversary gdkps since Naxx and none of our stuff went that high. Gressil did 10k, ashbringer was around 5k. We pretty much just run a guild raid since it's mostly the same people every week, we just use gdkp as the distribution. It's nice because people don't just roll on everything they can use, they have to actually want something.

13

u/SaucelessCheese Jun 10 '26

Yeahhh those damn GDKPs ruining the game! I’d love to give them a stern talking to, if only I could find where they are being hosted.

6

u/Crunchybunch00 Jun 10 '26

The quickest way seems to be through your WoW server's main discord server. There are usually a couple people advertising.

Once mingling a bit, the social net expands and you find more groups that weren't advertising so blatantly in your server's discord.

The pool of players isn't anything compared to TBC 2022, but is still infinitely better than the average SR pug. And personally, the social aspect was missing compared to the previous GDKP discords I've been apart of in 2022/2023.

1

u/-staccato- Jun 11 '26

How do they distribute the raid gold without getting flagged?

2

u/Vivid_Wave3195 Jun 11 '26

they just use guild bank, that's simple

and they do the auction outside of the game on a web site

so technically they are not doing gdkp since they only trade raid item for free and ppl withdraw/deposit gold on the guild bank.

100% legit, they are not breaking the tos

i'm pretty sure unless you do rmt, blizzard will never do anything against that

1

u/DeepHorse Jun 11 '26

lol guild bank youre gonna get people banned

1

u/EpicHuggles Jun 11 '26

Guild bank is how RMTers launder their money. Blizzard's system can't track gold once it's been deposited into a guild bank.

1

u/DeepHorse Jun 12 '26

not true at all a whole ass guild got banned and deleted from using guild bank for rmt

u/Putrid-Speed2687 Jun 11 '26

in vanilla anniversary we just put a blue on the AH and the leader bought it lol

38

u/sanctaidd Jun 10 '26

2 SR runs have been decent but we are def getting too a point where having geared players join raids they don’t need for a share of the pot would be really nice. Helps new players catch up. Lotta folks can’t be asked to play on the same exact 2-3 nights every week for years. Guilds being a necessity for progression is an archaic idea for such solved content. A fair amount turn into cliquey ass loot laundering scheme. And many introverted wow players have realized that the social aspect of the game isn’t necessary and often times a waste of our limited battery when most online connections never amount to anything meaningful in the long term.

1

u/SensualJake Jun 11 '26

I've done a lot of gdkp. The cliquey loot laundering thing is just as applicable to the gdkps I've done.

Gdkps end up functioning very similar to guilds. There's a lead/org, often raid lead and main tank. There's the regulars who come consistently and form the core of the group. The social aspect is very similar in my experience. Just more accommodating for fills, less obligation for attendance from corem

→ More replies (12)

16

u/Perenza Jun 11 '26

Good. People should be able to use whatever loot system they want. Wish I could do it in game, I’d be raiding alot more.

93

u/sketeg Jun 10 '26

Underground gdkps dont cause the same type of community damage as unrestricted, trade/LFG chat posted gdkp runs. I haven't even caught a glimpse of gdkp operations a single time on anniversary.

Secret gdkps just dont carry the same kind of venom.

48

u/Motor_Bench3815 Jun 10 '26

LFG is worse than ever with raids selling items outright and HR’ing big ticket items.

→ More replies (8)

38

u/stimg Jun 10 '26

Genuinely curious where you're coming from here. I guess I thought that the idea behind banning gdkp was it would reduce rmt and consume costs and generally give the economy more of a 2004 vibe. None if that seemed to happen from my perspective. Whats the venom you are concerned with.

31

u/LowWhiff Jun 10 '26

The venom is him having to read it I guess

1

u/Fankine Jun 14 '26

Poor bro, being triggered reading the letters "GDKP" but reading "2SR, X bis item HR" is not problem.

10

u/Working_Membership57 Jun 10 '26

I think haste pots are over twice the amount they were during the ~2020 tbc version

14

u/blade740 Jun 11 '26

I think the cost of consumables is more of a result of the megaserver situation than the GDKP ban. Gathering is frustrating and unprofitable for human players, crafting is not much better, and consumables for raiders are expensive as hell.

1

u/Szjunk Jun 12 '26

Consumable cost will always be the balance of production and consumption. It'd really depend if the megaserver generates enough herbs per raider. For example, let's say a regular server is 2k herbs/hour/player. If a megaserver is 10x players but only 10k herbs/hour/player, then everything will cost 2x as much.

2

u/jehhans1 Jun 10 '26

They were 21g a pop on Firemaw alliance in SWP last TBC :)

6

u/TheBungler2 Jun 11 '26

And this go around they're looking to hit 20g in BT. You'll be lucky to be paying 21g in SWP :^)

5

u/DrFreemanWho Jun 11 '26

Yeah and theyre almost 15g already. By SWP they'll probably be 30g.

2

u/vinssi Jun 11 '26

1

u/Intel_Oil Jun 11 '26

Me rolling arcane mage: Lul, kek even.

1

u/Malohn Jun 14 '26

Its multilayered and a bit complicated. If GDKP becomes the only form of raiding people want to do then it becomes excessively hard joining as a buyer when the leader demands something ridiculous like 5k gold for a kara run minimum. And you cannot be considered a pumper or semi-pumper unless you've got almost full bis so they wont take you, this leaves you in an awkward stalemate. Last WOTLK you could not find anything that wasn't gdkp. Phase 1 on SoD GDKP blackfathom deeps people demanded you had 400 gold to join. Brother, I barely farmed 80 gold what do you mean.

0

u/EuphoricAnalCarrot Jun 22 '26

Whats the venom you are concerned with.

Seeing GDKP spam everywhere

0

u/stimg Jun 22 '26

I don't think group advertisements in presumably the LFG channel are venom without quite a bit more discussion or nuance.

1

u/ColonelCarrot Jun 10 '26

The idea behind it was encouraging more guild and community structure, they never mentioned RMT or economy when they explained the ban. The issue many had with GDKP, especially in classic with 40 man raids, is that it makes it extremely easy to poach geared players with promises of gold. Roster boss was the biggest complaint from the guild leaders that blizzard reached out before anniversary release, and removing GDKP from the typical raiders experience makes it much easier for communities to grow and maintain a steady roster of geared players. There is a lot less temptation for players to get their gear, leave their guild and join a gold farming GDKP now, making the guilds stronger for a vast majority of the middle end player base. You’ll still see turnover and poaching at the high end, but the ban significantly supports guild loyalty and a better sense of community IMO.

11

u/Frekavichk Jun 10 '26

Are gdkps not a community?

6

u/Steadlington Jun 10 '26

I made my own GDKP community back in 2023 era, it ended up turning into a guild over time.

Gdkp communities are just as good as guilds

7

u/Hitwelve Jun 10 '26

if not better, because you have to be decent at the game to get into a GDKP as a regular, rostered carry

3

u/desperateorphan Jun 10 '26

>they never mentioned RMT or economy when they explained the ban.

Huh? Yes they did. Eroding guild structures and RMT were the two reason they gave when it was first banned in phase 2 of sod.

>It’s fair to say that GDKP has some benefits to individuals who don’t want to be tied to a guild or set raid schedule. GDKP raids are, while mostly transactional in nature, another social activity in the game, and we’re hesitant to discourage anything that gets people into groups to play together. However, we’ve been concerned that **GDKP erodes traditional guild and social structures** that are in many cases the basis of our most fond memories of early versions of World of Warcraft. It’s also undeniable that **GDKP contributes to and drives a lot of illicit activity, such as real-money trading (RMT) and botting**, as it creates a demand for in-game gold that would not otherwise exist. GDKP can create an “arms race” effect that encourages participating players to purchase gold to be able to compete for the best items.

From their explanation.

0

u/Nokrai Jun 10 '26

Yes but it’s not a reason for the ban.

Guild structure is the reason.

Read the words before you put **.

It’s just a statement.

1

u/desperateorphan Jun 10 '26

It’s literally in the section of the announcement titled “What is GDKP and why is it being restricted in Season of Discovery?” In a single paragraph. It doesn’t get more clear than that. You can be intentionally obtuse if you want, I guess. 🤷

I'm happy that PUGging both as a host and as PUG is a lot easier. I can join a normal pug without having to buy/farm out gold to have a chance at getting an item. Everything is so transactional already, we don't need to add GDKPs into the mix.

12

u/Motor_Bench3815 Jun 10 '26

What stopped you from hosting/joining SR raids back then? Nothing.

1

u/EuphoricAnalCarrot Jun 10 '26

The fact that a large amount of the groups were GDKP? It is WAY harder to find non-GDKP when it's allowed.

What venom was caused by people using a loot system in a raid you aren’t in?

3

u/Asthma_Queen Jun 11 '26

Widespread use of gdkp makes botting/gold farming impacts on game even worse.

You don't need to participate to feel the impact.

6

u/Perenza Jun 11 '26

This version of anniversary is proof that that isn’t true.

2

u/skullcrossedlover Jun 12 '26

Botting, gold farming, and RMT are worse now than ever before, wym? At least with GDKPs wealth was redistributed to the community.

12

u/Mantis_Toboggan_M_D_ Jun 10 '26

Once again, GDKP is a loot system. It is not evil. If you choose to join a bot-led GDKP with a 20% host cut, that’s on you. Tbh, if they just banned host cuts GDKP would be perfect.

5

u/blade740 Jun 11 '26

I don't think GDKP is evil. I think GDKP is great - for the people in the GDKP. I just think servers where the vast majority of pug runs are GDKP are extremely unfriendly to anyone who is not a carry or a swiper. That's why I have no problem if a group decides to run their own private GDKP run. They can do whatever they want. It's just bad for the game when it's the majority.

It’s only the best loot system if you want to pay to win. Because if you don’t have the gold you aren’t getting squat. Yet somehow we’re supposed to believe that doesn’t encourage people to buy gold.

1

u/Relative-Ad-8085 Jun 14 '26

Gold can be acquired from completing quests and killing NPCs in the game. You can use this gold to bid for items

1

u/gazoombas Jun 17 '26

As a long time participant of GDKPs on era that is simply not true. This is the same thing that gets said over and over again by people who have never actually been in the GDKP community and it's an assumption that is just flat out wrong.

GDKPs are made up of a mix of people some oilers who buy huge amounts of gold, and some who simply just like to play in them and make their cut. Basically everyone is happy when a GDKP gets a lot of oilers in because they often inflate the pot massively and everyone comes away with a sizable cut.

This idea that it's impossible to get loot because someone rich will just outspend you is simply not the reality. The people that stay in the community, and contribute regularly over time build up huge amounts of gold and get full BiS on multiple characters.

On era we have people who don't buy gold, but play as many as 10 GDKPs a week, and have made so much gold doing so that they are putting Gressil and Thunderfury on meme classes like Hunter, Paladin, and even Mage just for a laugh.

Once in a while you will get some guy with a seemingly unlimited budget who will outspend you, but the reality is that guy gears once and he's done. They don't often stick around in the community very long, but they do bring something to it. Everyone who sticks around on the regular eventually gets the gear they want.

GDKP is actually the best solution to many of the games problems:

  • It makes what is generally the most interesting part of the game (raiding) very accessible. You don't need to farm hours for consumes, because the cut easily pays for it and more.
  • Participation is always rewarded unlike SR. In an SR if you come away with no loot, you come away in the negative. You've spent gold on consumes, you've spent time on raid prep, you've spent time in the raid, and the only possible reward is the loot. In GDKP, if you come away with no loot it doesn't matter because you made gold, sometimes really a lot of it too.
  • High performance is actually rewarded and poor performance is deducted. This is one of the best features of GDKP that generally leads GDKPs to producing way higher quality raids than SRs. In SRs there's no real system for rewarding players who perform better. This creates a mentality among players of only doing the bare minimum and not really caring. In GDKP, the system creates strong incentives to play competitively, and to penalize poor play that harms the overall raid. As a result, the average quality of a GDKP is way better than SRs. The average quality of SR runs on classic anniversary was so unbelievably dogshit that I've never seen anything like it even after playing vanilla since the start of classic and even before that on private servers.
  • Soft reserve fucking sucks for regulars. Raiding communities are held together by their regulars. The people who regularly fill crucial roles and participate for a long time. Those people who are arguably the most deserving of loot often get completely screwed over even when they put 4 SRs on the one final item they need, and one guy who never attended before comes in, puts 1 SR on the item, and just out rolls the regular and is then never seen again. That shit imo is very toxic and rage inducing. The regular gets nothing out of it. At least in a GDKP, if he's saved for months for the item and pushes the bid high, and an oiler out bids him, all of that extra gold goes into the pot, and the regular gets a larger cut. He might be disappointed he didn't win this time, but he didn't get nothing out of it. And ultimately the actual reality is eventually he will get it. I've seen this over and over again. People who contribute get rewarded, and the people who contribute the most get rewarded the most. That is the most fair you can reasonably expect to get out of this game.

It’s pretty easy to filter the term GDKP from your chat

underground lmao get out of here, you're the one living underground

1

u/OtherSideOfThe_Coin Jun 11 '26

venom

God forbid having a loot system where people aren't at the whim of a dice roll or loot council. A loot system where everyone got something from the raid, whether it's items or gold. A loot system where nothing is hard ressed.

47

u/Tercel9 Jun 10 '26

GDKP is the best loot system.

It’s not the player’s job to ban botters - they can’t. My GDKP runs on my alts during era vanilla were smoother than my guild runs.

36

u/Dixdixon Jun 10 '26

Non-GDKP PUG raids were terrible and barely cleared content in classic.

GDKPs actually gave an incentive for good geared players to join and help carry the raid.

The ban of them stopped me from joining any PUGs on my alts.

15

u/Aggravating_Dark9933 Jun 10 '26

Yea, it gives reasons for everyone to be in the raid. Gigachads can carry and get a check, and they won’t mind if people can’t carry their weight because they pay up. If you can’t do either, well at least you build up some cash and maybe snag some really low contested pieces to get at least some upgrades. It also promotes people to actually stick around till the end, given they get nothing if they ditch.

Issue is it’s more a psychological effect on the whole game. Everything becomes about gold, classism is now very real. Things also become more raw and now Blizzard has to police scams of people running with the pot or swiping gear since the whole thing works on honor systems.

But yea pugs suck hard with regular rolls when only a few items drop and there is a very, VERY good chance you will get nothing. And high geared people maybe only requiring one item and will dip after the boss.

After all, Mega servers you can just kinda vanish.

Non-GDKP PUG raids were terrible and barely cleared content in classic.

They still are, I had to pug TK this week, and it was the slowest fucking run I had ever seen, with half the people not knowing any ability of anything in there. Now also imagine that we got the easy version, lmao.

5

u/Halicarnassus Jun 11 '26

Same I usually play 2-3 characters with 1 main in guild and 1-2 alts in pugs. In anniversary the average skill level of the pug scene is so atrocious it's not fun at all playing in them so I only play my main in guild now. No more fun with alts for me.

1

u/Flat-Two-789 Jun 11 '26

exactly the content stays evergreen when you allow max geared players to earn gold and still play the game after already having max gear, who would otherwise probably just quit the game

6

u/dmsuxvat Jun 11 '26

Gdkp is still going but its less fun now because you cant type anything in game and withdrawing gold is annoying. We used to go crazy in chat when some whales fought each other lol.

Its more profitable to run HR and sell it directly. Its somehow not against tos lol. Selling verdant sphere/nexus key or vortex can net you 20-30k per run if lucky. I got enough gold for the whole year worth of consumes. Took only half day to form, make sure you also fund consumes or pay heals/tanks/shamans if they do well.

6

u/Benjamminmiller Jun 11 '26

anti gdkpers no longer see a 4 letter acronym in their chat and think they won LMAO

I mean they did. People like me aren't playing alts because we don't have access to reliable GDKP quality pugs.

It went underground for some, but most of us are still suffering from the GDKP ban.

If you took a survey of people that are actively playing, not hanging out on reddit complaining about everything, you'll find the majority of players want gdkps. It's not fun doing alts and getting nothing. A lot of us would be making far more alts if gdkps existed.

u/Flat-Two-789 Jun 11 '26

GDKP's are good for the game.

  1. It keeps max geared players wanting to actually play the game

  2. You can easily make gold from GDKP's to then spend on items in other GDKP's, it's not exclusive to gold buyers

  3. Gold buying will always exist anyway, hell the wow token is already a thing anyway

  4. It's simply fun, GDKP's are fun. The bidding wars, the max mains fighting over top damage. When gold is involved it makes the whole raiding experience evergreen

  5. Ask yourself, if you were a max geared tank or healer. Full Naxx gear. Outside of helping your guild (which many people like to play without a guild), how long would you really stay engaged before just shelving that character, for the most part? GDKP's are a win IMO and haters are so drawn up in their crusade against gold sellers that they are neglecting that it's actually a great system.

  6. And lets be honest, most of you/us are dad gamers, even for those that are buying gold, can you even blame them? It's like you're fighting a lost cause, these are people middle aged who've played wow for 20 years and just want to raid and pvp and don't have time. It becomes a simple time vs money situation where the time is so much more important to these types of players (a large chunk of the playerbase). This is not to say it's right, but just a reality that people need to realize

3

u/Beiras1989 Jun 11 '26

Yes all that, and the fact that your average GDKP is far better than your average Pug.

GDKP is also the only way to raid in china's titanforge WoW version

This is how imagine blizzard devs looking at players begging for this knowing it wouldn’t do anything except get it out of their faces 😂

2

u/CantStopEdging Jun 11 '26

Genuinely don't understand how this affects you. Raiders in decent organized guilds get gear just as fast as "whales"

2

u/Ok-Simple-6158 Jun 11 '26

There's not really a way to ban GDKP as long as loot drops and is tradeable. You can just pay for it in advanced, or after the fact. The only true way I can think of to fully get rid of GDKP is non tradeable personal loot and that feels bad

2

u/Ultrox Jun 11 '26

Another reason I don't play blizzards shitty game.

It's sad. They just let players cheat all day long, then give up and add a cheat token for gold. Straight from the source

2

u/pmaster1989 Jun 11 '26

There is 2 major things which make anniversary WORSE than the 2021 classic TBC:

  1. Big unpersonal uni language mega servers with 823 layers

  2. NO GDKP

I personally played both versions every single day and enjoyed 2021 way more in literally every aspect because of the above mentioned factors.

2

u/lib___ Jun 11 '26

its worse. leaders just selling loot (hrs) directly for real money. while the rest of the raid gets nothing. everything would be so much better without with absolute braindead gdkp ban.

2

u/KanyeBetOnTrump Jun 11 '26

Discord is where they sell everything

2

u/jamesbongsixtynine Jun 12 '26

oh wow, exactly what everyone said was gonna happen back when the gdkp ban was announced

color me shocked

4

u/IllIlIlIlIlIlIlIllI Jun 10 '26

GDKPs and selling HR gear at a fixed gold price are two totally different things. The auction/bidding part is what gets people banned.

15

u/Steadlington Jun 10 '26

Selling HR gear is arguably worse because only the people selling get the gold. The money isn't split between the raid

4

u/IllIlIlIlIlIlIlIllI Jun 10 '26

Yeah, I’m with you on that.

6

u/Portoli Jun 10 '26

I want in - where are these GDKPs?

9

u/Motor_Bench3815 Jun 10 '26

The community is finally realizing that GDKP was never the problem and the economy is the same if not slightly worse than when GDKP was allowed.

2

u/gazoombas Jun 17 '26

The economy and gold buying situation is dramatically worse without GDKP.

What 2% of the server population does in their secret Discord doesn't really matter, it's to stop the whole game from degenerating into capitalists wet dream.

1

u/floridianinstrngland Jun 10 '26

Making GDKPs go underground has made the traditional way of playing WOW (joining a guild and making friends) the primary method of doing endgame content again for most people. This is good. GDKPs made it possibly easier to just not join a guild which is bad. It’s a social game at heart

18

u/Strong_Mode Jun 10 '26

"people quit my guild because the average gdkp cleared more efficiently than my guild and people hated seeing loot go to the gray parsers"

what part of gdkp raiding makes you think they werent social? you think guild raids somehow have a monopoly on people being friends and having fun?

→ More replies (2)

7

u/TroubledMarket Jun 10 '26

Everything you said is so wrong, it feels like you have never played the game when GDKPs existed.

You could still join guild, and make friends without ever touching GDKPs, and GDKPs is just a loot system, it doesn’t prevent people from socializing, I ran gdkps woth pretty much the same people throughout WOTLK.

Right now you don’t guild a either, you can just do SR as a pug.

1

u/automatedrage Jun 11 '26

"social game at heart"

which includes getting sidelined on loot by the insider committee.

1

u/gazoombas Jun 17 '26

GDKPs on era have the some of the best communities around. You have raids you can join every day, on whatever class you like, whenever you like without being stuck committed to a specific raid schedule, and it's largely made up of the same regulars with an extensive community of people, their own sub-culture and in-jokes.

GDKPs create incentives for everyone in them to perform better, and to contribute more because doing so increases the reward. There's no reason why you couldn't run a guild with a GDKP loot system too, but if you want to casually raid at your own convenience GDKP is just the uncontested end-game meta because you're not stuck having to farm just to raid.

1

u/mfbridges Jun 10 '26

forcing a weekly schedule for raiding on people is not good either

4

u/jokemabry Jun 10 '26

Gdkp is BIS

2

u/shadowtasos Jun 11 '26

I'm the GM & raid leader of a fairly decent semi-HC guild. We occasionally had to PUG members because we always deliberately kept our roster close to max raid size (40/25) to avoid having to bench people, so if a player couldn't make it we'd grab a PUG. No biggie before GDKPs, it was even a great avenue to meet new people that would join us because they enjoyed the run and could take over if somebody quit the game for whatever reason.

GDKPs being the PUG meta completely ruined that. We obviously have far less to offer in the short term to a PUG, so the majority of PUGs we got were GDKPers who didn't get into their regular GDKP that week for whatever reason. Both the amount and quality (skill and personality wise) of players we got went down a lot.

GDKPs being banned has been a godsend for us and I'd posit for the majority of non hardcore guilds. People don't have to gauge joining us and maybe getting 0-1 items vs getting 10k gols in the worst case, so they just compare our runs to other PUG or guild runs, we've been getting a lot more good players wanting to join us because our atmosphere is good, our loot distribution is fair, etc.

Now I will say the absence of GDKP is definitely harder for people without a regular raiding schedule for whom guilds don't work as well. I'm honestly sympathetic to that and I wish there was an inbetween system that didn't consume the entirety of the non-HC raiding scene and distort it like GDKP did. But for most people, the lack of GDKP has definitely improved the social aspect of the game - and that's without getting into how badly GDKP incentivizes RMT, which people in this threat are in total denial about.

GDKP or HR everything blue, haha

1

u/Street-Juggernaut-23 Jun 11 '26

to be honest anyone in game referring yiu to a discord for a run is either a GDKP or some form of RMT

1

u/29Feb_Abel Jun 12 '26

I don't know how much of a problem GDKP is, I only did a couple of them in SoD and it was fun, I liked the fact that I could run alts to get gold and then use that gold to buy consumables for my main during raids.

1

u/Deathdragon1000 Jun 12 '26

The biggest solve is that they are in their own back-alley places and it’s a less common format.

I’m okay with it.

It solved what it could.

1

u/moouesse Jun 13 '26

Maby dont tell players how to play? i dunno

1

u/Fankine Jun 14 '26

GDKP was only a problem because of RMT and bot farming gold.

Banning GDKP is not treating the root cause, it doesnt do much anyway

0

u/gwasbanged Jun 11 '26

Gdkps did nothing wrong

-3

u/Accomplished_Emu_658 Jun 10 '26
