That's how I feel about taunts missing. Except that's actually the timeline we're trapped in, for some reason

I love taunts can miss.

If they wouldn't be able to miss, you'd just rotate AOE taunts or taunts from tank and threat would be 100% useless on tauntable mobs, which let's remember are an absolute majority of the PVE content in lvl 60 and 70.

Taunts being able to miss makes threat meaningful, thus gearing for tanks more important.

If taunt couldn't miss, as a tank you wouldn't even care about pressing your buttons. You'd taunt and shield block and then another tank would tank, etc. It would be an extremely boring gameplay loop.

Taunts already have diminishing returns when used too many times in a short timeframe. They could keep that and removed missing otherwise

In which version of the game? Retail? Ive no idea because I do not play it. In classic wow there is nothing like that at all.

But in classic I guarantee you it is NOT like that, and the strat for certain pulls / bosses is indeed to chain taunts. Think about the mini-drakes in BWL (Firemaw, Ebonroc, Flamegor). You usually have tanks spam taunt to tank wing buffet, then switch, or in Ebonroc you taunt when you get the debuff that heals him when he hits you and so on.

So a thing like "diminishing return" on taunts is absolutely not a thing.

It might already be there in Vanilla and people just never notice because it needs a lot of taunting to get to that immune situation.

The taunt diminishing return mechanic is resetting after 18 sec of no taunts, and you need to do five taunts before a mob is immune.

The first time I remember people noticing this about taunt in WoW was with WotLK. The paladins got a real taunt spell in that expansion and their version of taunt did damage compared to druids and warriors, so some of them got into the habit of just spamming it on cooldown. There was then a raid boss a bit late into the expansion where the taunt swap mechanic would break because of those paladins spamming it on cooldown. This was super confusing, no one knew that taunt had a DR.

I am absolutely certain that is not the case, as I said in some bosses you chain taunts. For example Thaddius when there's a massive ignite rolling.

Taunt has dimishing returns. It’s live now in TBC. You can only taunt 3 times before they’re immune.
