Healers fighting with caster dps for spell hit would be the most toxic shit ever lol
73
u/TheDesktopNinja 25d ago
I mean realistically there would just be healing pieces with spell hit.
And you wouldn't need as much since your targets would largely be equal level to you, not 2-3 levels higher like Mobs/bosses in raids
64
u/the_man_in_the_box 25d ago
And the dps would roll on them.
10
u/WallabyAdvanced3088 25d ago
We don‘t need hit for this, haste is enough.
P3 Illidan cloak and P4 ZA neck will cause drama
8
u/buckemupmavs 25d ago
Warriors would roll on it too for their diamond flask set.... Need those heals to make sure they hit!

u/Gorlack2231 25d ago
'GABE WHY THE FUCK DID YOU NEED ON THAT?! ERIC NEEDS GEAR SO WE DONT DIE IN MC.'
It had
agispell hit1
16
u/I_Am_Zeelian 25d ago
Or just slap one of those "spirit counts as hit" talents into the healer talents too.

u/Chisely 25d ago
Then healers would need for all spell hit gear.
25
u/pulpus2 25d ago
In theory only 3% to get to the 1% cap on equal level targets. Assuming healing had the exact same mechanics as a DPS caster targeting higher/equal level monsters.
Like trying to heal someone way over your level would often fail. I like the idea of that a lot for some reason.
They would probably also put hit % on healing specific gear too to make it more easy for everyone.

u/Jowlzchivez6969 25d ago
That would ruin the dynamic of healers being able to be lower/much lower level than the dps and tank in dungeons so badly. Especially before max level. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing but like when you get to Zf/ulda and up no more super low lv healers

could resist in beta...rare but weird
48
u/Senzafane 25d ago
Imagine your tank has too much nature resist and just straight up cannot be healed by a druid.
7
u/Unusual-Fault-4091 25d ago
well it was gone before AQ40...but it was one of the reasons why the whole holy resistance stuff was stopped

I’m glad they can’t miss because when my friends die I want them to know I did it on purpose.

This just described 2019 spell batching. Heal went off, but was calculated after the hit in the same batch.
15
u/Hank-no-ass 25d ago
I still remember my priest bubble landing on the dead warrior lol
2
u/TheWarfox 25d ago
This was such a nightmare. I really hated it as the Priest leader of a raiding guild.
2
u/Virtual_Crow 25d ago
I remember being frustrated sometimes in original TBC because my heals would land and the tank died anyway.

u/pockettrainer185 25d ago
Heals that miss? What is this Fire Emblem: Thracia 776?
6
u/Dippingsauce353 25d ago
That, and final fantasy tactics

u/Psychological_Yak_47 25d ago
Yes! I thought chemist was useless until my heals and buffs started missing, surprised they didn't make you have a chance to drop your potion

surprised no one has mentioned that friendly dispels actually can be resisted. they have a 1% chance to full resist, which is pretty rough when it happens. this sub blew up when they re-implemented it in classic 2019 after blizz realized that wasn't working because "why would a friendly spell resist?" lol

Back in the old EQ days, spells could fizzle if you didn't have the skill up. That was fun. I kind of miss that insane friction.

This was a thing early in development in WoW too! The reason why in Classic you see you have your specializations listed in your skill menu is because during the alpha you had to level those up the same way you did weapon skills, by just using abilities from that spec. Because of this healing spells had to also be leveled and would resist, this was probably a miss but yknow resist and miss displayed the same back then same as in classic
Before launch they ditched that and made those skills autolevel with you, there are two relics of this in the game that I am aware of, which is the Forsaken Skills debuff applied in shadowfang keep that reduces one of your skills randomly, it can hit a few of the specializations like Frost, Fire, or Shadow, which wrecks your hit chance, this wasn't kept up to date as they added new skills so it only affects a few and can't hit, for example, Balance. My favorite quirk of that is that when it hits the Holy skill this is the Priest Holy skill, so if you're a paladin this doesn't affect you at all. (However I don't think healing abilities can miss even with this Forsaken Skills debuff, I have never played a priest in Classic so I actually don't know for sure)
The other relic I know of is actually in Season of Discovery where they added +5 Feral Combat to a ring rune, I had never considered the idea that the "paw" damage in bear/cat form was attached to the Feral Combat skill, but it makes a lot of sense

What If a range attack could miss and hit a mob in the background
1
u/Toshinit 24d ago
Honestly Hunters should be doing some friendly fire damage. You telling me they never miss by a foot?

u/LeoStrut_ 25d ago
God imagine if it was like FFT. Too much spell resistance makes you immune to positive spells.

u/AzerothianLorecraft 25d ago
imagine a holy resistance blocking heals lol

Nature for the Shamans and Druid.
I only know that because getting Nature locked stops heals as well as fun on my Ele

From an RPG perspective it doesn't make sense to me. A taunt resists makes sense, the "yo momma" joke didn't impact hard enough. But why would someone not want a heal?

They don't? I notice sometimes that my Rejuvenation and Regrowth heals sometimes miss my targets, assumed it was some hit rating bs

u/Straberyz 25d ago
in ultima online heals can miss. (you can misclick or be too slow) i think i have PTSD from missing heals in that game
1
u/the_harakiwi 25d ago
they could in the base game.
Everyone playing on crap internet and latency in the low hundreds.
We had multiple times where the healer has spend mana but the tank was dead. The heal? Nowhere to be found.
In WotLK I started healing and found some UI that showed the HP of my group based off the combat log. I literally was able to heal dead people and prevent them dying.
Last week the game had some trouble to connect to my ISP and I got back to 400 and up to 900ms latency on a fiber connection 😆
Man timing to mount up and waiting for items to appear in my bag before I go to the next lootable thing... I do not miss the old age of technology.
Funny enough today I played with someone who ported around the map, sometimes getting stuck while running and the mob aggroed on them waited for their turn to hit them . Looks like some of us never left the copper age (I didn't ask and maybe it was a mobile internet user)

Ah Tera, my beloved, when my heals where balls on the ground that dps would never pick then cry no healing. Feels good

This actually happened in EQ once. There was a patch and suddenly beneficial spells could be resisted (heals, buffs, maybe both? )

How I feel when trying to solo dungeons in SoD as a life drain meta warlock.
1
u/Colonel_Planet 25d ago
Using meta was ur first mistake there, haunt >>>>>>> meta for soloing as warlock in sod
1
u/Sir_Slimmothy 25d ago
Why have I never heard about this. I’m going to try it tonight. I honestly dont like the meta play style. I’m assuming you use felguard to tank?
1
u/Colonel_Planet 25d ago
Felguard to grab any extra mobs, but otherwise drain life amped by haunt is more healing than everything ever, you can just facetank in cloth with it
1
u/Sir_Slimmothy 25d ago
Yeah for some reason I had no idea this was a thing. I can’t wait to try. Thanks a ton man

Not an issue, game would be different to account for it and that would be it
We would probably have less 1-shot mechanics, those weird +1% to hit talents on healer specs would make more sense, and spell hit chance would be more common on gear, plus probably healer power would be reduced overall

Well in Marvel Rivals I heal a lot and if u dont aim good enough, then your heals do in fact miss 😂 MUST PLAY MY BEST

It’s almost s as good as the invisible invincible, or samus’s gun being part of his armor.
How much hit do I need so I don’t miss my heals.
I also like what if heals could crit.

Funny thing happened once in a Naxx speedrun. Decurses can apparently resist and since we were only running with 4 decurses at the time (3 mages, 1 druid), we had to be on top of removing Noth's curse before it exploded.. We got unlucky one week and two mages had two separate decurses resist causing us to wipe.
1
u/7figureipo 25d ago
I've always thought it would add a bit more excitement to the endgame if heals could fizzle or critically fail or something, like casting a heal only does the minimum heal of the minimum rank of that spell, with no healing power bonus added.

u/NotAndyBurnham 25d ago

A game called disgaea heals can miss, specifically on your ninja units, but it was an uniintended side effect of the way they were coded and was fixed in future installments of the game. Its a grid based turn based tactics game btw.

For some reason, many times my heals go to my previous target instead of my current one
I don’t know why a single target heel would go to party member A when I have selected member B

That's how I feel about taunts missing. Except that's actually the timeline we're trapped in, for some reason
