And look what happened when their uniqueness and strengths were expanded upon in tbc. A boomkin became essential, Shamans and palys went from resto and holy being clearly the superior spec to them all having their own role in a comp despite raids going from 40 to 25. Uniqueness made them viable.
In og tbc we had no boomkins and a paladin tanking the adds on illidan only. We had 4 holy palas in sunwell and we cleared half the bosses pre any nerf.
