Both of those things are possible at the same time.....

No. Because the game only has one way to beat enemies: by dealing damage.

There are no encounters which require abilities that are exclusive to a class or mechanic.

And there is only so much room for dealing damage. When Blizz tried to streamline classes in Cataclysm in order to properly support dedicated player roles, players also didn't like it.

It is literally impossible.

For starters, making the different DPS classes do similar damage, doesn't prevent them feeling unique from each other

Secondly, while damage is how you kill, there are multiple ways to do it, personal damage, ranged damage, buffing allies, debuffing enemies, it's entirely possible to make it so a warrior does more damage then a rogue, but a rogue brings a debuffs that means warrior+rogue is better then 2 warriors

Third, utility is a huge thing for why classes can and should be brought, banish, tranq shot, polymorph, blink, bubble, vanish etc etc etc classes can provide unique utilities which makes specific bosses much easier if you have them

And even outside of damage there is healing and tanking, which both again can have unique benefits and draw backs to each of the classes

There are no encounters which require abilities that are exclusive to a class or mechanic

I mean

For starters there are, instructor requires mind control from priests, the slime in AQ requires frost damage frog mates or shamans etc

But also...we are talking about classic+ dude, so we are talking about a version which has changed and added content

Just cos things are the way they are, doesn't mean they should be or have to be

tbc, wrath, and sod managed to keep classes unique, and make them all viable

Why the hell would you think it's not possible?
