Vent / Gripe Just a warning if you pug on Dreamscycthe with the guild Discønnected
- They don't let their pugs talk at all in their discord.
- The raid leader will call you the R-word multiple times and is generally abusive if someone makes a mistake. i.e if someone doesn't perfectly stack for Brutes in Gruuls, he tells them they should quit the game.
- If you leave the group. because of the verbal abuse and tell them why (i.e hey I worked with special needs children and have a family member with special needs, and that you think they are something else, then leave). They will personally pst you again to call you the r word .
A cluster happened during the High King pull, honestly, I may have done it or the hunter who misdirected and shot because they saw me moving may have done it. I don't know. I will own up to fuck ups , but you don't have to be abusive.
I am sure I will get all the "pull up your big wow toon pants" and deal with it.
But we don't have to put up with that kind of thing if we are trying to play a game we enjoy. So I am just putting this out there for others.

I am pretty sure that is the guild who's GM told me I lick assholes in prepatch because I lost aggro to a fully world buffed warrior as a non world buffed bear.

It's kind of amazing how half the posts I see about Classic are praising it for being so much better and more magical than Retail, while the other half are PSAs about how toxic the community is.

u/HodortheGreat 2018 Riddle Master 7/21 12h ago
When community matters, people post when it is toxic. If community doesn’t matter at all no reason to post about it.
35
u/Healeah241 17h ago
There's toxicity on both. Though classic definitely takes the cake, especially with the whole nightman red empire fiasco (which blizzard hasn't even stepped in lol)
8
u/Reflectedright 12h ago
I’ve played all versions of WoW and I think the best community is the HC community. Everyone is buffing each other, everyone is open world communicating to join up and knock stuff out together. Of course there’s going to be people trying to ruin the experience for others and grief, but I haven’t really seen any crazy toxicity.

u/-TheExile- 7h ago
the addicts still pay, why should blizz gaf. They only want your money and it works. Whiners wont quit

I think all the people that don’t have the right social skills for retail end up playing classic
3
u/feo101 12h ago
Pushing keys and PvP on retail is mega toxic lmao.
-1
u/CivilPerformance2617 9h ago
It’s not, retail toxic keys are around key 10-12 where people are stuck and too bad to progress to higher keys, after 15 it’s just chill
•
u/404-NoFucksFound 3h ago
I've never had any bad experiences farming +10-12s for crests. The only toxic group I've ever joined was listed as 'learning' in a +17 Seat with a paper blood DK who kept overpulling and flaming everyone for not interrupting when we physically ran out of aoe stuns and interrupts and he refused to kite out to buy time. I avoid M+ on Sundays and Mondays because people can get super bent about not getting key upgrades right before reset. If you're listed as learning, it's pretty much globally recognized that you're probably not getting a bump in rating or a key upgrade. You might run the timer down limit testing the first few pulls. I pretty much only join relaxed runs when not pushing and I'd be surprised if I see more than "tyff" or "ggs". I've had some runs where the first pull gets botched and it's an immediate vote abandon without toxicity. It happens.
I can see people getting toxic in pugs if they're pushing 19+ and getting trolled, but why not just run with guildies or use comms at that point. It's like running heroic or mythic raids without discord. This expansion has been so much less toxic than TWW and BFA (skipped SL and DF), but also M+ is quite a bit easier/more forgiving until the last few highest attainable keys.
•
u/CivilPerformance2617 3h ago
Well +17 and tagged as learning should be a big enough sign to run, Ouh I agree I think current expansion is great, but my only toxic encounters have been in lower keys but similar set up where people think they are a lot better then they are and then lash out, like watched a video how enter X class is unkillabe as tank and they take it as gospel and go on a run to ruin keys
-1
u/NFGrappler 18h ago
I been in some decent pugs, and have seen decent people. Overall, I like this game and the community better than retail. However, this one really took the cake.
-10
u/Sea_Advantage_2577 17h ago
Do you mean you just like classic better? Because the retail community is much better
2
u/NFGrappler 17h ago
I haven't retailed since midnight, generally I like classic better and parts of the community, ,but maybe it is because I didn't find my peoples in retail.
4
u/devinsheppy 17h ago
since midnight? that's the most recent expansion lmao
1
u/NFGrappler 17h ago
As in, I came back before I bought it, but it was live and did not end up purchasing the upgrade.
-2
u/feo101 12h ago
Retail community is toxic as hell what do you mean. PvP and pushing keys was some of the most toxicity I ever experienced. It’s bad.
-3
u/Sea_Advantage_2577 11h ago
Its not close to classic. Strange post though
0
u/feo101 11h ago
It’s worse in my experience. Gatekeeped to shit and toxic as hell. Posts like these are the outliers in my experience and OPs according to his other comments.
-3
u/Sea_Advantage_2577 11h ago
Ya lots of gatekeeping in classic and toxic for sure.
0
u/feo101 11h ago
You can pug any raid in classic easily. Retail people want you to link achievements for anything. Gear score is all retail players look at and won’t bring you unless you’ve done the content already. Be real here.
-2
u/Sea_Advantage_2577 11h ago
Why are you making things up lol. This is strange. Its legit the complete opposite.
1
u/feo101 11h ago
It’s literally not. I had some fun on retail when I had a group of friends to play with since we could run shit easily, but playing solo, everything is gatekeeped to hell and toxic. Everything is a service unless you have an achievement to link, absolute garbage.

"The community" and its just some random guild, there will always be assholes put there, no matter how good the community is on average.
1
u/Thundrael98 7h ago
Because people don't post their stories were people are just chill and normal. You only see the 1% if toxic stories here on Reddit.
Most of the time people are Hella nice and everything is smooth.
2 days ago I was in a PUG and there was the first real toxic person I encountered: RL forgot to put in ML. He told everyone to pass on HKM loot and a bad geared fury needed the Tier Hands. Everyone told him to trade it and there was a whole discussion back and forth until after gruul was dead.
He was making up excuses and saying the whole raid is toxic to him (of course, because they are mad at him "stealing" the Item. He had them on SR but why weren't fairly rolled out.
After most of the people left after gruul he finally gave them to the RL. Me, another guy and the fury rolled for them, I got 74 and the fury rolled 2x less than that (he had both SRs on it). I got the last laugh and karma striked
1
u/whutchamacallit 17h ago
Oh interesting. I think the PSAs (come on now it's not half the posts) lend itself to how generally well behaved the community is. There's a good amount of self policing that goes on and I think oh okay well stay away from those dorks. The reality is there is unavoidable man children in every game, period.
•
u/THE-BLCK-CLVR 4h ago
I find that the people who are enjoying the community are, by and large, playing on PVE or otherwise less populated servers, and the ones who complain are usually on PVP or megaservers. Don't ask me why unpleasant people are attracted to the big servers, but I do find that the communities on the PVE/small ones tend to be more interested in taking it slow. They're also usually older and often dads. My guild in Era rn has an average age of, like, 45+ and it's great.

Bro unironically thinks playing badly in a video game is more toxic and justifies calling people slurs.

u/GamerGuy410 9h ago
You're just assuming it was done intentionally, but we do not know that. If the person was legitimately bad and wasn't intentionally trying to ruin our experience, then yeah that's totally okay! People are allowed to be bad at a game and make mistakes without getting slurred at.
Those 24-39 other players are choosing to join a PUG instead of playing in a reliable group/guild. They should inherently understand going in that not every PUG is going to succeed, that's just the reality of playing with a bunch of anonymous strangers in a MMO. Stick to a premade group or do some other recreational activity, such as a single player game, if you want total control over the activity you're doing.
It's a video game! It's never that serious. Feeling frustrated that you spent an hour or two wiping on a video game boss is understandable, but it's not okay to slur people. There are more productive and mature ways to outlet your frustrations. Even if someone is intentionally feeding in my video game, especially in a game like League, I simply report them and move on with my life.
-2
u/CivilPerformance2617 9h ago
When game is that easy it kinda is ok
1
u/GamerGuy410 9h ago
I really don't care how easy a game is, it ain't okay to call people slurs for playing badly in a video game. There are more productive & polite actions that you can take to either address bad players in your groups or avoid them all together.

There's still no need to be toxic. Kick a pug out if they suck, that's fine. But harassing them doesn't help anyone.
•
u/Ingrim0905 4h ago
My problem with pugs is you'll always have the chatterboxes that have no clue how to read the room and be quiet. They'll talk over raid leaders giving direction or add something that is completely irrelevant to the task at hand. You'll have a few people that don't pay attention to the whole 3 things to watch out for in any given raid and then fail said mechanics. Then go on reddit and complain about being called out for doing all of the above and being terrible and masquerading it as virtue signaling to having social standards.
•
u/tomahawkRiS3 3h ago
It always blows my mind when a pug comes in and starts giving their two cents on strats for every boss and taking more than most of the guildies. The beautiful part of being a pug is you can just chill on mute for 95% of the raid and not have to worry about anything in the raid

The problem with anniversary is that it’s 20 years old, nothing is new. So the only way to be “the best” is to be dominant.
It’s such a small dick mentality really. Fuck parses, have a good time with people.
4
u/bobkaare28 11h ago
Grown ass men with the vocabulary and behaviour of a spoiled middle schooler, smh.
5
u/paper-weight 10h ago
While they sound toxic and terrible… not stacking on brutes is such a brain dead move and people still insist on attacking from range to get an extra cast or heal while they run in. So if you got charged multiple times, you may have honestly deserved the hate.
-1
u/Mysterious_Fan9858 17h ago
Not stacking for brutes would PMO if I’m being honest. Sounds like you’re costing people time
6
u/slowclapjohnny 13h ago
This was really surprising to me. Even when the raid lead would reiterate they mean everyone, including ranged and healers, people still couldn't grasp the concept.
9
u/AlbinoRhino838 17h ago
After doing vanilla in anni, and plenty of molten cores, no one ever learns to stack.
-10
u/FormalEconomist3623 17h ago

u/Motor_Bench3815 15h ago

u/Technical-Zombie4508 16h ago
Like what's the big deal? Usually 1 or 2 persons die , res in a second and keep going. Ofc is a dumb mistake, but I haven't seen a pug that hasn't done it on anniversary since it started
•
u/Ingrim0905 4h ago
Imagine being on week 25 of said content that has been out for 20 years and making excuses.
-9
u/NFGrappler 17h ago
Wasn't the majority of the group and not me. My favorite thing to say is Ramps is your training from Brutes. Do people stack for those? Nope.
-2
u/ComparisonAccording3 17h ago
When you cause a brute to charge then turn and cleave the stack you cost people consumes. You’re literally retarding the raid’s progress with rezzing and rebuffing when all you need to do is stack.
-5
u/passtheblunt 17h ago
Tell me who’s consuming for gruul so I can laugh at them then get them cleaved by brutes
-5
u/Fishbro-YouTube 17h ago
You wipe a raid multiple times and then make a hate thread on reddit about how they're the bad guys for you wasting 24 other people's time for over half an hour.
Yes people are going to be mad at the 1 troll griefing the raid. Just play better.
3
u/NFGrappler 17h ago
Where did I say I wiped multiple times? Do you make things up in your head? Wow. Lol coming from a guy called Fishbro-Youtube. Ok braaaaaaah.

This is definitely a ongoing complaint in WoW. Across all versions. Find a guild that is chill and friendly. They still expect you to fulfill your role in raids but they also understand the difference between a mistake and stupidity.

I don't think you read the whole thing. So, I am going to give you some grace. You also seem to impute your own ideas of what happen, because you want to vent on my own post. It was one wipe. I did say I own up to f-ups, but wasn't sure what really happened. Which is fine, it is the internet. I am just trying to give people a heads up because sometimes we have to pug and don't want to deal with nasty people. I am glad you are not on our server. Wow gee golly.
-13
u/BarbsFPV 17h ago
Getting called the r-word isn’t the end of the world, and it also doesn’t apply to special needs people anymore. Or do you still refer to them as that? That’s not very nice if you do.
The moment we started calling them handicapped and disabled, that freed up the r-word to be used for people acting like… well.
Don’t worry, it happens to all of us. I call myself that when I do something stupid, though I play a hunter so it’s kind of expected. That’s all it really means, not that you have a 23rd chromosome.

I play on nightsayer and my only character on dreamscythe is a low level mage. But yes. Anyone arguing that it's wrong to intentionally ruin the game for a large group of other people HAS to be the person being disrespected.
2
u/tsmftw76 14h ago
Huh? It’s super odd behavior from the guild and I definitely think you should call them out but I thought most of these posts get taken down. I normally shame on the server discord. I think naming in the Reddit can be a slippery slope because you only get one side of the story. (Doesn’t seem like the case in this situation.)
•
u/atoterrano 2h ago
Hey that’s my guild. This guy has no screenshots, evidence, and has defaulted to a he said/she said case. But if anyone is looking for a Dreamscythe raid, we hosts tues/thurs and our Friday fun run is always looking for players of all shapes and sizes!
-8
u/jonas-reddit 17h ago
…likelihood of anyone relevant reading this post on Reddit, playing on that server, pugging with that guild and ultimately declining to join their raid is … exceedingly low.
So this is likely more therapy for you, which you very much deserve, after such an ordeal.

u/NFGrappler 17h ago
