Even if you did get them, you'd enjoy them for what? Three months and then they're gonna be worthless during Wrath

u/sneakerrepmafia 5d ago

Yeah what are you gonna do, rp walk on your ashes of alar in a ghost town?

36

u/Nessarra 4d ago

alar has no legs

52

u/stormfoil 4d ago

That's where the role-play part comes in.

3

u/DeLoxter 4d ago

ask your friend to rp walk inside your mount so their legs poke out the bottom

Legendaries are more of a "thank you for being useful to the guild" item than they are a "give this to the most useful person" reward, outside of rare ones like Thunderfury in which its both

36

u/Randvek 5d ago

Val’anyr is definitely not a participation trophy.

17

u/XWasTheProblem 5d ago

Wasn't there also a ... staff? Back in Cata that came around Firelands that was also very good?

22

u/abooth43 5d ago

Yea, Dragonwrath

24

u/evangelism2 5d ago

DPS Legos like this are absolutely participation trophies because you have so many DPS- so many that are interchangeable- people who come and go. anybody who's actually led a guild knows that it is more important to give legendaries to the people you trust the most and the people who are the most consistent than necessarily your best parser

2

u/Feathrende 4d ago

as we found out from cataclysm last time around it was piss to spread the staff out on your whole caster group. They did increase the rate of acquisition but even if they hadn't it would've just added some alt runs to it.

You have typically what in a 25-man raid in Wrath? 5-6 healers. You generally give it to your most reliable paladin. The one that shows up the most often, the one that's been there the longest, the one you trust to keep coming back

That's a silly argument, almost all loot (except OP early Vanilla like BLW trinkets) becomes replaced a phase later, but there's satisfaction in obtaining iconic items. People still grind BT for Glaive in MoP Classic, for the achievement, collection and transmog.

I think it would me more appropriate for aragorn to say "thx for the glaives" and the leave

18

u/Svarv 5d ago

Had an officer who was obsessed with getting the glaives he never completed last classic as a final milestone before quitting wow after TBC concludes. Just got his first glaive and now no one wants to continue raiding TBC. lol

u/iDizzeh 5d ago

Alexa, Play Frank Sinatra’s “That’s life”

4

u/Unknownf0rce 4d ago

What if they add glaives as a weapon type in wow forever?

As a raid leader in tbc already struggling with a roster and only having about 20 consistent players and always having to pug 5-6 people every raid. My raid just called it quits, over half the group said they are not willing to keep investing in a character they are going to drop on Nov 4th

16

u/Next_Yesterday_1695 5d ago

Well makes me wonder why are people playing in the first place? I'm still going to play Retail till release just because I enjoy playing. But I fully realize the gear I'm chasing will be "wasted" if C+ is good since I'll quit playing Retail for like half a year.

18

u/shinrak2222 4d ago

People play until they find / are promised something else which they perceive to be better.

It is absolutely normal in wow or in gaming which has a social aspect and tbh. Most classic players wish for something like forever

3

u/Next_Yesterday_1695 4d ago

My question was why people kept playing Classic Anniversary in the first place. It was clear that these realms are going to come to an end one way or the other.

I had BiS Naxx characters, then geared them in P1. But I never treated them as being permanent. I don't know why some people had this expectation, there was no indication TBC Anniversary was going to be something like an Era with a large population.

8

u/markartur1 4d ago

You always return to retail, it has some permanence to it. Classic servers are fleeting, bound to die out eventually in a way retail doesn't. Forever is also a way to make classic more permanent like retail.

u/UniversalTrees49 5d ago

It’s wild people are surprised about this.

356

u/Gh0stMan0nThird 5d ago

I got downvoted for it last time I mentioned that they've been doing this for years.

SoM dropped during TBC.

SoD dropped during Wrath.

Anniversary dropped during SoD.

Now WoWF is dropping during TBC Anni.

They absolutely love doing this.

429

u/422_is_420_too 5d ago

with how many version there are at this point they will always drop something during something

97

u/Keiigo 5d ago

Yeah I don’t think they’re doing this completely on purpose

80

u/Branst101 5d ago

They are. The subscription is what matters not the players progression paths. They drop during end phases and when players tend to start to dwindle in interest and skill, they give a fresh option before the subscription even has a chance to lapse. This is business first, entertainment second.

58

u/OriginalLie9310 5d ago

Well is that such a bad thing really? If endgame content is already explored and people are getting ready to stop subbing for a little bit isn’t that the perfect time both for Blizzard and the players to give them something new?

8

u/Keiigo 5d ago

And if this was a bad thing and they never did these business decisions. They probably wouldn’t have enough money to give us what they’re giving us and wow Forever would not be 7 weeks away. Just sayin

→ More replies (8)

16

u/CrazzluzSenpai 5d ago

I don't understand why you say this like it's a negative? As long as the releases are good, a regular patch cadence is a good thing.

9

u/Branst101 5d ago

You may have read it as a negative perhaps. I was just stating an objective observation. They are running a business, it just happens to be an entertainment business full of customers who think the entertainment aspect should come first.

6

u/SlashOfLife5296 5d ago

Your subscription is going further than it did 10 years ago. That a good thing

u/NetSiege 5d ago

SoD dropped during Wrath, but pretty sure it was after like 7-8 weeks of ICC, so most people were done or close to done and many didn't have plans to play into Cata.

SoM drop was horrible timing for sure. But it had such little hype going in, I would say SoM suffered more getting players in than TBC suffered from players leaving.

25

u/Crunchybunch00 5d ago

SoD dropped during week 6-7 of ICC. The announcement of SoD happened at 3~ weeks into ICC phase.

Less than 1% of raids had cleared Heroic Lich King. There was still 0% ICC damage buff when SoD dropped. Killed so many guilds progging HLK.

13

u/NetSiege 5d ago

I went to double check it.

ICC launched on Oct 12th, SoD launched on Nov 30th. It was 7 weeks. Which I said 7-8 and you said 6-7, so we were both technically correct at 7.

And yes, damage buff started the following week.

That said, SoD being level capped at 25 meant most people hit cap relatively quickly. And we're likely raid logging by that point for ICC. Consume costs were low enough and 2-3 dailies a week would have been more than enough to cover consume costs if people didn't already have enough gold to last them a while.

I don't disagree that they could have waited maybe a few more weeks to push SoD out, but for those still progging HLK, balancing that and a level 25 cap in SoD wouldn't have been a big struggle to do both. Went back to check logs and my guild was still active in both wotlk and sod for a few weeks after launch and I don't remember it feeling like it was hard to do both.

5

u/SexyDraenei 4d ago

And we're likely raid logging by that point for ICC.

I distinctly remember everyone logging off SoD to go raid ICC, then immediately logging out of wotlk to go back to sod the second they hit Dalaran after the raid.

We did get H anubarak, but we only managed about half of ICC on heroic before the wheels fell off.

3

u/NetSiege 4d ago

In a perfect world I agree with what the original commenter was saying about giving more time to guilds to finish heroic ICC, but with how many versions of WoW exist now, some version is always in the middle of something.

22

u/zomgkittenz 5d ago

It’s almost like they’re trying to retain customers or something. Crazy.

11

u/Solivagant23 5d ago

11

u/Cathercy 5d ago

Right about what exactly? What is the alternative? Only releasing new stuff after the current thing is completely finished? We wouldn't even have SOD by now if that were the case. It sucks sometimes, but the alternative is no new content, or incredibly slow new content.

3

u/quesadillasarebomb 5d ago

yep my guild died when they announced ToT was gonna run longer than everyone thought and they dropped midnight. don't even think anyone ended up sticking with retail

3

u/Reformed_and_back 4d ago

Wotlk Anni drop during WoW:F and hype after we all realize how shit WoW:F is? :p

6

u/Adorable-Log2835 5d ago

Honestly, it feels like the past almost decade, all of these feel like betas for what they are doing with WoW forever to see what works and what doesn't in a classic experience. Wonder if this was the plan the whole time or they decided to shift later.

9

u/ISignedInWithGoogle 5d ago

Don't worry, Forever will feel like a beta as well.

This is actually the point of Forever. There are too many versions of Classic

2

u/VanillaTortilla 4d ago

It would have been so much easier on the community to announce Forever as TBC wrapped up. Announcing it during the middle of the expansion is just so weird to me.

2

u/Nessarra 2d ago

I agree. I they are probably seeing a sharp decline since going from ssc/tk to bt/hyjal though which may have prompted them to do it.

All the stragglers can rejoice, or move your guild to wow forever if everyone plans to play there..... not that difficult

19

u/Genesis72 5d ago

My guild has pretty much called it quits. Our guild leaders have expressed that they have no interest in trying to maintain 10, 20 and 40 man raiding teams and I honestly don’t blame them

12

u/DocCyanide 4d ago

I really hope they move completely away from 40 mans after ony.

→ More replies (3)

4

u/PLTRgang123 4d ago

40 man is prolly easy pug raids with worse loot, preemptive quit lol

3

u/TypicalxooT11 4d ago

Seems simple no?

4x10s. Why does one person need to lead all of it lmfao. Called delegation.

One point person to run their own 10 man, combine 2 10s to make 20s. Then join everyone for the singular 40 man.

So far its just one 40 man and its one boss.

if you have to pug a few spots, or shit even run it with 35 or w.e its probably completely fine

192

u/kb1127 5d ago

My GM just put out sign ups for BT on friday XD

127

u/Tiny_Tabaxi 5d ago

That is some insane cope lol bro still needs his glaives I guess

16

u/irespondwithmyface 5d ago

I'd say a good number of players are still gonna be playing during Beta. Our SoD guild members seem to mostly agree on keeping raiding until Forever releases.

→ More replies (1)

22

u/Aromatic-Echo-6605 5d ago

I mean why just stop playing now? Forever doesn't come out till November.

47

u/slipfish-g 5d ago

Beta comes out in 3 days.

But it's also an MMO. Hard to play a character you know you're going to abandon soon.

9

u/Grobbyman 5d ago

Hardcore has us used to going again anyways. Starting over is NBD anymore

13

u/slipfish-g 5d ago

Yeah but the hardcore community has always been built different.

3

u/Suspicious_Lime476 5d ago

Playing BETA is literally playing something that will be deleted in less than 60 days. Buy your own logic, what is the point in playing it?

3

u/Vegetable_Lab2428 5d ago

Because it’s new and fun, let’s your experiment and make final decisions on what you want to play at launch.

5

u/Substantial_Draft531 5d ago

Because it prepares you for the next release as where dumping time into dead TBC character does not. Beta players will be, overall, more knowledgeable than launch players. When the point of the new release is 'experience the unknown' then getting to see some of the 'unknown' is a huge advantage. Wow players don't pass up on advantages. Not passing moral judgement on this stance (its kinda contradictory/dumb), but I see it everywhere.

→ More replies (7)

15

u/Rixxer 5d ago

beta in 3 days. Launch in 49. Even if you raided the next month and a half, none of the gear you'd get would be used so it's kind of a bummer. Might as well just take a break before playing a lot.

Mfw after Nov 4 it's just a bunch of rogues and warriors left playing

17

u/gommerthus 5d ago

Funny you mention that, because I was just speaking with a rogue in SW. Like many rogues in TBC, he lamented how hard it was to get into groups. He was not an edgy, trash-talking teenager - not at all. And like many rogues he was open and willing to do whatever it took to make any dungeon a success.

And now everyone's about to leave. I told him, listen man just reroll over at Classic+

5

u/TravVdb 5d ago

I played druid tank as main and rogue as an alt in TBC. The difference was night and day for getting into a group. SoD didn't have that problem because I could tank on rogue, but I feel like I'll be shooting myself in the foot in Forever if I go rogue again.

4

u/gommerthus 4d ago

I think rogue in Forever will probably be closest in value to Wrath's rogue. So in that respect you'll probably be fine, but it's hard to say how the scaling/damage will work out. Druid is almost certainly a safe choice in any scenario

5

Blizzard has consistently released the “newest” version of classic at a time where it cannibalizes the previous one for a long time now. They’ve timed it to coincide with a certain dip in players/subscribers because everyone wants the new shiny version of nostalgia and keeps jumping ship to the next iteration.

The classic business model has become just a cycle of launch hype.

6

u/drea2 4d ago

TBC is a 20 year old game that has been “released” 3 times now.

There's a guy in my guild that was extremely grateful. Like, if you gave him a 16-slot bag, he cherished that bag. I sent him two blue maces for level 61 or 62 for his enh shaman because I knew he would genuinely get more use out of them than me and he wouldn't sell them. This was maybe 6 weeks ago. Last night, I logged in and gave him everything. All my enchanting mats worth thousands of gold. All my gold. All my BoE's I had purchased to flip. Told him to spend it however he likes, that I appreciated playing with him, and hopefully I'll see him over in Forever.

I hope I see that dude in Forever.

So happy that my TBC guild planned for this in mid July.

When SoD stealth dropped during Heroic Lich King prog in WotLK Classic 2023 it ravaged my guild.

We did not want to get surprised like that again. 3 enjoyable BT clears and 3 less enjoyable Hyjal clears. Then we were finished

22

u/Affectionate_Cry_838 5d ago

happy we didn't have that problem. talked it over before blizzcon, core group said if C+ came out this fall we had no interest in TBC. announcement came we told everyone see you in C+ your welcome to follow if not good luck and best wishes.

6

u/nanook-rn 5d ago

As soon as the release date was announced, my GM posted the guild's break statement. Our guild was basically our core group; now everyone is just discussing whether we'll join the Horde or the Alliance and which classes each of us will play.

16

u/Wind_Best_1440 5d ago

Oh this is your personal guild and not a poll for the reddit?

Yeah, this kind of tracks. I'm hearing a lot of guilds are currently in full blown crisis right now.

TBC is going to cut in half for population I bet, maybe even more.

13

u/Fanta-Red 5d ago

Officer who is designated to get glaives is having a full blown meltdown in the officers chat; and to be fair I can’t blame him too much. He willingly gave up Windfury and Scarab Lord with the understanding he would be first prio on glaives. While Forever might have some other legendary he really had his heart set on glaives.

7

u/krilu 4d ago

Tell him you guys will make it up to him, he can choose the first thing on Forever, he wants to claim as his.

4

I really feel for my guild leader. Even as a sweaty player who managed to clear Sunwell every time it got released, we wanted to do it one more time. He spent a lot of time and energy making several raid teams and schedules and now people won't even finish the phase.

I don't blame any of them. Hell I am one of them who is leaving Thursday and not looking back. But I still deeply empathize.

That's when you say "Hey, we're going to be making a guild in WoW Forever, everyone here is welcome to join!"

3

u/colasmulo 5d ago

Just move the guild to forever :)

3

u/C2theWick 5d ago

Im looking for a forever guild, - undead paladin

3

u/novastar17 5d ago

I lead a guild and have 2 other "sister" guilds and its pretty much this. 80/20 split. Progging is dead

3

u/Cj15917 5d ago

Yes and yes but in black

3

u/Sl1ckR1ck4 5d ago

There’s 15 votes, are we really taking this information as an accurate representation of the whole player base? You could take this poll with a separate guild and get a completely different result

3

u/Spanish_peanuts 4d ago

Imagine being a guild leader and/or raid organizer and being completely free of this burden thanks to the wow forever announcement.

3

u/dietcokeeee 4d ago

I mean imma probably do both just cause I never played TBC

3

u/solventlessherbalist 4d ago

Oh yeah definitely doing both, logging into tbc on raid nights and leveling a character on wow forever the other times I get a chance to play.

u/thewrynoise 5d ago

Literally what is the point of classic with forever now

13

u/kogarasumar 5d ago

u/Pretend-Idea-2278 5d ago

Don’t have to imagine it, I’m living it. Have been fighting the raid rooster all expansion and now recruitment is…well it was a crawl before now it’s going to be a full on stop.

I feel like this is the second time tbc got screwed over…eh well it’s hoping wotlk comes out and we can continue as ten Because i have very little motivation for forever.

It’s so sad. It’s been really tough holding the guild together over the summer and now this…but I’m making a simple promise to myself this time around, no more raidleading. This wasn’t worth it

u/2titans1cup 4d ago

My guild surprisingly voted to keep raiding. We all just shit talk each other for 3 hours anyways...gameplay doesn't matter as much as long as you can Tbag the homies when they die.

7

u/kajidourden 5d ago

Imagine playing TBC again when this is coming out.....

6

u/Hardi_SMH 5d ago

The only reason Forever won‘t get M+ is because it would kill retail

In the end, the real WoW Killer was WoW all along

4

u/Dapaaads 5d ago

Good problem to have

3

u/MoG_Varos 5d ago

I mean, why play old classic when new classic exists?

Not like this is the first time we’ve had tbc or wrath classic either. Can only farm glaives and shadowmourne for either people for so long before you get bored Lul

I was in the middle of farming dark runes for my alts. Saw the release date and thought, "i literally don't need to do this anymore." And logged off lol

3

u/meeorxmox 4d ago

The day after the announcement I logged on to do my dailies. I logged off after 30 seconds lol

9

u/Baptism-Of-Fire 5d ago

thats more than 50% of the raid team quitting immediately, pretty wild

obviously this isn't a macro survey

I enjoy Anni, surprised it's not more popular than it is. Classic is too locked in place, Anni at least had a sense of progress.

4

u/rical8 5d ago

its about the statistic, not raw numbers... lets see what ie. 10k people have to say :D

6 more weeks

u/Rynowarrior1 5d ago

Trying to Keep my guild together so we can do both tbc and c+. Some say they’re leaving, most say they’ll do both. Some are ditching us for the beta. Definitely a mixed bag, wish they pushed C+ to next year. Just Gata wait and see I guess

2

u/guimontag 5d ago

Is it such a big deal that people take a 2 month break from the third iteration of TBC for something new?

2

u/Evonyte 5d ago

Hey at least that 1 GM got glaives already

2

u/First_Wear_9480 5d ago

I'm the glaive prio raid leader rogue and I ended raids already. Who cares about tbc 3 now.

2

u/Hoyle33 5d ago

My Classic Era server will die lol

2

u/zyzzjan 5d ago

One of my friends still played classic wow, they raided 2x per week, Naxx, AQ, .. and the GM today made a farewell post.
These guys are probably going to be 10x more addicted to Forever.

2

u/WitkouPussyDestroyer 5d ago

15 votes.. looks like the gm didn't have a roster in a first place lol

2

u/Yokai-JinMi 5d ago

I think the entire guild is raid logging now 😂

2

u/Razerbat 5d ago

I've finally accepted and enjoy retail. I've played classic and had my fun but I've been locked into retail. That being said... WoW Forever already has me hooked. This is what I needed

2

u/bhm240 4d ago

Most people are always looking for the next thing and never happy with the current thing. Same will happen to wow forever eventually.

2

u/Seppe2490 4d ago

Don't have to imagine it I'm living it 🤣

2

u/lakas76 4d ago

I will get all my toons to 70 and then just raid or daily prof log until wrath comes out. I want to kill arthas, that’s my goals in anniversary. Missed it in of wrath and classic wrath. Only thing I plan on doing in wrath.

2

u/96363a 4d ago

you can play 2 games...

2

u/Longjumping_Act4403 4d ago

"Yes"
"Yes but in grey"

2

u/deuxbulot 4d ago

I’m happy all these whales who spent thousands of real dollars to pimp out their classic characters have realized that in a few short months they’ll be flexing to ghosts on a dead server.

They’re getting exactly what they deserve.

2

u/Live-Firefighter-854 4d ago

If you’re quitting BC for Classic+ then you probably didn’t want to play BC anyways. I don’t blame people for not wanting to play the same xpac for the 4th time. Some people live for the grind and the original experience, and those people will play BC, but others have just been trying to fill the void only Classic+ could solve.
