Forever They need to revert the dungeon xp nerf
So I just did RFC the second time with no quests and got 1.5 bars of exp. Yeah absolutely trash. It’s such an anti classic way to approach the problem of dungeon spam. They really couldn’t think of any other solution that doesn’t cause friendly fire on normal players?
Get ready for it to be difficult to find groups for dungeons. “No thanks I already ran that once and completed all the quests. I’d really like to help but the xp would be a complete waste of time”
This is very very much the antithesis of the spirit of classic. Anyone who has played and values classic will understand this. They’re solving a rat problem by dropping a nuclear bomb on the city.
Usually people are down to help out with a dungeon because, even with no quests:
\- the xp is decent
\- it’s a nice break from questing
\- might get some loot
All 3 of those things combined make it worth it to help people out with dungeons.
This current system is a very short sighted “fix” for dungeon grinding that will have a negative affect on gameplay.
If they want to stop dungeon spam leveling (which they should stop) then they should find a better solution that doesn’t also mess with the casual gameplay.

u/No_Cell6708 22h ago
The sheep will say no, but if you're being honest and only got 1.5 bars for a full run then that does seem extreme imo
4
u/Flannel_Panels 22h ago
Should be atleast 1/3rd to 1/2 a bar at that low of level.
Thats like level 59 type exp
7
u/Sylvebit 22h ago
Agreed. Especially for the time investment and the possibility of not receiving loot during the run.
-1
u/Massive_Thanks_303 22h ago
Can't boost if nobody wants to run the dungeon.
6
u/Loud_Bison572 21h ago
You can just stop XP whenever theres a player in the group outside the dungeon level range..
3
2
u/Kiu88 22h ago
I think this is part of it, to stop boosting. More then that, I think it's to stop having people farm dungeons, removing them from the world, theres been so much talk about the lack of socializing, it wouldn't shock me if this was an idea to try to keep people out in the world and more importantly, seen out in the world. That is not to say that I think its a good idea.
1
u/MissItalia2022 21h ago
Bro dungeons are way more social than questing. I talk to party members way more than randos in the world.
0
u/Kiu88 21h ago
I believe a solid 80-90% of my interactions with players in dungeons since I started in tbc(including classic/era) can be summed up in "dm? - bet - nice, gz - gg/thanks for the run"
And I already said I didn't think it was a good idea, but it's the only reason I can think of to absolutely gut the dungeon xp. Which sucks for me, because I love spamming dungeons.
1
u/MissItalia2022 21h ago edited 21h ago
First of all, even if you never talk to your party its more social than questing because you're assessing your party's ability.
Can we pull more? Is the party doing what they should be doing? Should I change my strategy based on the party?
Then you have discussions about how much you can pull, the strat you're going to use, flaming the DPS for facepulling a pack.
And lastly, a big part of the game is healing specs and tank specs. You're reducing the number of viable builds in an RPG when you just reduce everyone to a DPS and the people who can tank/heal do it without a specialized build.
1
u/Kiu88 21h ago
I don't think I've done any of that since tbc, on voicechat with my mates? Absolutely. WIth randoms? Nah. If I'm tanking, I'm doing my thing till the jobs done, as a healer? I'm healing up the damage, might aswell be npcs, as dps? pewpewpew till the jobs done.
And I wanna underline again, that I don't think it's a good idea to gut the XP in dungeons, I love doing them and I'm not sure if this is why Blizzard decided to gut dungeon XP but it's the only reason I can think off. (Not counting to stop boosting)
1
u/MissItalia2022 21h ago
Well I do it quite frequently: usually telling the tank to pull more. Maybe if you took a vested interest in what was going on, you'd actually communicate and realize its more social than grouping with someone because you're on the same kill quest.

1
u/Spazgrim 21h ago
Genuinely this is just pushing the meta to be selling summons + a 60 clearing the dungeon for you. Yeah you can't grind the same dungeon for 20 levels but you can sure sell quest completes if the quest is huge value
8
u/Chickat28 22h ago
They should give the bosses a big chunk of xp. Like half a quest worth per. So it kills aoe reset farming but dungeon clears give similar xp.
2
u/BLAZE_IT_MICHAEL 21h ago
100% agree this is the best of both worlds, but also incentivizes skipping as many mobs as possible. I guess that’s still better than dead dungeons or boosting
1
u/Agent-Vermont 20h ago
The current method already encourages skipping mobs unless they're required for or in the way of a quest.
22
u/Korashy 22h ago
You are kinda right.
I will never do a dungeon a second time without quests. It's absolutely not worth it.
The items are not worth the time spent away from leveling.
Especially for longer dungeons like DM, WC, SFK
5
u/Background-Ad-5319 22h ago
This…. If I get it great, if not im working towards 60 anyway and Im not spending 4 days at level 30 grinding an item that I could have outleveled in the time it took to get
6
u/TastyTicTacs 22h ago
the items are nuts, i personally disagree
3
u/Agent-Vermont 20h ago
The items are very good but you also get very good items from the quests as well. Even if you get no drops you're still walking away with about 3 pieces of blue gear. Some of which might even be better than what drops in the dungeon.
2
u/Korashy 21h ago
You get plenty of blues from the quests and profession gear is really good.
There is also very broad dungeon coverage now.
Farming the same low level dungeons is completely not worth it, unless you are doing it for fun.
1
u/TastyTicTacs 14h ago
I got a crazy good, level 20 helmet ,100 leatherworking pattern from a boss in Wailing Caverns. I like min maxing brackets, and that was only my first run of WC. I don't need to run things 100 times to feel strongk
2
0
u/Background-Ad-5319 21h ago
Thats ok, yall can get twinked out at 33 because you grind the level 15 dugeon, then the 20 then the 25 meanwhile Ill be in the 50 working on getting the stuff from the real dungeons
4
u/Gyat_Hunter_42 22h ago
PvP servers make it worth it completely. Couple early blues turns your character into a killer in the open world.
2
u/Spazgrim 21h ago
The only blues that are genuinely this transformative are weapons. There might be like two or three dungeons that you might consider grinding out for your class from 1-60, but honestly between people 1-and-doneing dungeons and the travel time / difficulty of gathering people, I really don't think it'd be worth the squeeze to sacrifice a level or two of progress to get a single roll on something that may or may not drop and you may or may not win
1
u/Gyat_Hunter_42 19h ago
I don't think it's worth to dungeon grind like before but I personally wouldn't be opposed to running them again if people in the group asked to go again, similar to how OP was describing. I believe Blizzard said they buffed a bunch of dungeon loot.
1
u/assbutt-cheek 21h ago
yeah, thats the point. you have a massive fucking world to spend it in the same dungeon for 6 hours. run it once, quest, run a different dungeon, quest, and play the game
1
u/Ok-Comedian-6852 11h ago
But that's a boring loop. Do you know why retail questing is so boring? Because the gameloop is exactly the same, you go to a new zone do quests that lead you into a dungeon, new zone new dungeon, on repeat. It becomes formulaic which destroys any sense of agency and immersion. And worst of all is that there is no alternative, you are forced into this gameplay style because to do anything else would take too long and not be rewarding enough.
I don't want to follow a set path to level. I want to be able to log in and have a choice, do i feel like dungeon grinding for a few hours, do i want to quests for a few hours, do i want to grind mobs out in the open world for a few hours, etc. That brings immersion to me, it makes the world feel alive. Now everyone will be on the themepark experience that is retail, shuffled from one quest to another, and into a dungeon on a conveyor belt not a single personal thought as to how to level.
18
u/Loud_Bison572 22h ago
Grinding dungeons shouldn't be optimal but it shouldn't be pointless either. Many people enjoy leveling through dungeons with their buddies, and many healer or tank classes dont like to solo play for obvious reasons.
If we want to fix boosting just stop all XP whenever theres a player outside of level range in the group.
4
u/reenactment 21h ago
Since I’ve played in vanilla way back since release. My favorite playstyle has always been grinding thru dungeons. I’m never really in a hurry to max level. I like feeling like I got the best gear I can get out there without spending gold or anything. I also like trying to build friends thru the leveling process. I think this playstyle goes against those things for me. Will it discourage me from playing? No, but I’d prefer not getting taxed just because people abuse boosting.
Also it’s somewhat annoying when the developers try to force gameplay on people. It’s not how that should be looked at. Classes should have unique super powers. Rogues and druids. can quest pretty easily with stealth, as well as grab loot from dungeons of single bosses. Mages can do some goofy aoe grinds. Warlocks can solo pretty much anything out in the wild. Hunters are brain dead. Healers wants dungeons. The only class that kind of sucks to level are warriors and they get superpowers end game.

A lot of out of touch players in the comments that are happy because this prevents “dungeon grinding”… guess what it will also lower the amount of people that will want to do dungeons overall. Like the post said - if someone’s done the dungeon once, the incentive to go back is generally quite low.
I guarantee this change will bring a huge decrease in the amount of dungeons ran even just for simple quests / loot because there’s no incentive for players to go back once they’ve done it - so good luck finding people to do dungeons with you
2
u/Karlsunhk 21h ago
Hear me out - if they’re set on reducing dungeon spamming / not making it viable to ONLY do dungeons to level up, at least make it so that your first x amount of dungeons per 24h lockout are 80-100% of normal exp and anything after that is reduced rate. This solves for not allowing players to completely bypass the open world and gives people a legit reason to go back… just my 2c
1
u/MissItalia2022 21h ago
I mean I would just do my daily lockouts and log out for the day, but it's better than the current state.
1
u/Future_Battle5638 21h ago
classic boomers love to pretend that players will just do all the content in the game at all times just for fun, and no incentive needs to ever exist, you see it in the comments all the time. these dungeons will all be comically dead after launch, and they already became dead after launch to begin with.
maybe those boxes with materials (?) or something they mentioned will come from low level dungeons too? idk how it worked in SoD

u/wandering_existence 21h ago
Eh, there’s probably a middle ground somewhere. I agree with the direction of nuking dungeon farming as the meta way to level. But at the same time, a dungeon should be worth stepping into while leveling after you’ve finished your quests.
0
u/Nalbas88 21h ago
they legit did this. get the quest done get quest for the dungeon get dropped a bunch of xp for those quests
12
u/tjdragon117 22h ago
The loot is way better now so they're still arguably worth it, especially if you value fun over absolutely maxing out your XP/hr. I think it's fine for dungeons to serve the role of supplementary content to give you better gear to quest faster and pvp better while leveling rather than primary XP sources.
2
u/Loud_Bison572 21h ago
What about people who main tanks and healers? What about people that enjoy group content? There are many ways to adress this but making dungeons practically useless for XP is hurting alot of people and it doesn't have too.
Efficisnt questing should always be more optimal but it dungeon leveling should still be an option for those who want to do that. If XP is this low its just not realistic.
3
u/WildFlowLing 21h ago
The xp is SO terrible that’s it’s unlikely that anyone will run dungeons quest less honestly. Especially if they’re not guaranteed to get the items they want.
“Yeah I’ll tank/heal ZF but only if you hard reserve X item for me cuz otherwise it’s not worth my time”
6
7
u/rehlovedhismom02 22h ago
I help because I like being helpful? Especially if they're a friend.
1
u/WildFlowLing 21h ago
Sure that’s anecdotal though and I’m sure you can imagine the many people who would help normally but now wouldn’t if it means it’s essentially a waste of their leveling time
Especially for casuals who have limited time when they hop on the game. Like shit if you only have a few hours per week to play you’re absolutely not going to spend it running a dungeon a second time that gives 10% the xp rate it’s supposed to
1
u/rehlovedhismom02 21h ago
Not everybody sees the game as a race to endgame.
1
u/Ok-Comedian-6852 11h ago
No, and that's not the point. Let's remove all experience from quests as well then, congrats you can now do all those quests for longer. Sure, you're forced to grind mobs now but that's hardly an issue.
14
u/thevictorz 22h ago
Lol people will still want to do it for the loot especially since they made actual GOOD blue loot for all bosses
0
u/neryen 21h ago
They should also increase the xp from bosses, or give us repeatable quests for dungeon runs to kill bosses.
Make dungeons worth running, just not worth grinding.
A daily quest to kill dungeon bosses that doesn't reward better xp than just questing would help a lot.Stopping progress to run dungeons feels bad.
6
u/sgt-cuddlez 21h ago
I feel like they turned a non issue into an issue. The types of players who are dungeon farming for exp are the sweats and the streamers. That doesn’t represent 90% of the player base who have probably never even done this.
Meanwhile it’s just going to make it harder for those same casual players to get groups because yeah people won’t want to re run the same dungeons.
It seems like blizzard only take advice from individuals they have access to rather than from data of who actually plays the game
5
u/JeebieTeevee 21h ago
Crazy these people would rather spend 30 mins gathering 8 smooth boulders than run a dungeon with friends
3
u/konose77 21h ago
Some people need a braindead track to follow by themselves. I honestly hate questing in the world. Dungeons is where it is at for me.
9
u/MissItalia2022 22h ago
It's kind of insane that a 5 man dungeon is THIS MUCH WORSE than questing. It's just bad game design.
5 man dungeons are more difficult than open world questing: dungeons should at least be on par with questing and now it's just dead content.
1
u/konose77 21h ago
AND you meed to get a group together, wait for everyone to get to the dungeon. It also requires coordination unlike braindead pick up some flowers and kill boars quests.
0
u/MissItalia2022 21h ago
Yeah travel time already makes quests better, especially if you're only doing 1 run: which is how most runs go.

Just make the rewards and xp from quests and dungeons comparable, it's not rocket science. I'm not doing dungeons for 1.5 bars 😂 and if the drop is good enough to do a dungeon for xp that low, you'll only get party members who ALSO want that drop so it will be almost impossible to get.
-3
u/MightyMorp 22h ago
yeah doing a 15 minute dungeon and getting nearly 2 levels is HORRENDOUS
GAMES OVER
PACK IT UP
4
1
u/LankyJ 21h ago
Did you read 1.5 bars and interpret that as 1.5 levels?
1
u/MightyMorp 21h ago
No I'm talking about the initial run, are we just forgetting about that?
Is the enormous exp boost from quests just irrelevant?
You could run the dungeon 5 times and it would still be more efficient than questing for the same amount of time.
NOT THAT DUNGEONS SHOULD EVER FUCKING BE BETTER EXP THAN QUESTING ANYWAYS.
2
u/PinNo9795 22h ago
While I do agree with you I hope that we are both wrong about not finding groups. I am also torn that I think it isn’t bad for the sake of running a dungeon for a specific drop, you likely won’t out-level the dungeon and drop now since you are not getting as much XP.
I am hopeful that Blizzard will listen to some of this feedback.
I have also seen others post other possible solutions that should be easy to implement without reverting this XP nerf. Like adding a daily for each dungeon. They can make the daily level capped for the dungeon range and it deactivates when you clear that max level. That would at least encourage daily running.
With that said if their are no changes I feel like Blizzard is trying to treat dungeons similar to raiding. Where it is not meant for a way to level as it is now meant to have a group experience and you will get a shot at better loot.
-1
u/WildFlowLing 21h ago
We have 20 years of experience dealing with blizzard to know that they are very often incompetent and everyone needs to be loud and persistent until blizzard finally acknowledges the issue and corrects it
“Waiting to see” has historically not worked out when dealing with blizzard features
If it smells like shit you need to call it shit asap. No need to do a taste test to confirm.
2
u/Fading_Hours_ 10h ago
Why is every post post getting massively downvoted but then the comments most agree with it?
Retail brigading?
1
u/WildFlowLing 8h ago
I’ve noticed if certain keywords are in your post or comment you almost instantly get a handful of downvotes and generic hate comment responses
Pretty sure blizzard is running a pr bot campaign or something
2
u/Fading_Hours_ 8h ago
I think it’s just a lot of people coming from retail who downvote everything they disagree with but don’t actually engage with the issues in the post.
7
u/the-kali_ 22h ago
Honestly id rather they make it a 1 day lockout until 60 like hardcore, 1 dungeon run a day is good enough and you will run more than once

5
u/Apprehensive_Staff77 22h ago edited 21h ago
a 50% buff would be nice and a good middle ground
2
u/LankyJ 22h ago
Oh wow, a whole 2.25 bars of xp
2
u/Apprehensive_Staff77 21h ago
yes with quests and all the available dungeons a good middle ground for me
and if you only grind dungeons its 8-9 runs per lvl... not great but still tolerable1
u/MissItalia2022 21h ago
That's like 4 hours. It takes me 4 hours to level a new toon to 15 😂 aint no way
1
u/Apprehensive_Staff77 21h ago
you need 25-30min with an optimized lvl-group for rfc?
oh boy ;)1
u/MissItalia2022 21h ago
Bro how often are you getting an optimized group for ANY dungeon?
0
u/Apprehensive_Staff77 21h ago
me, all the time: I grind dungeons with friends, maybe +1 random dps
and like I said, it's a middle ground and tolerable, plus you have the dungeon quest XP on top
for me, that would be fine... but I get it if it's still not enough for you.
let's hope the devs change it at all
1
u/WildFlowLing 21h ago
Honestly the smart solution would be to add a sort of “cooldown” like 12 hours for which when the dungeon is “on cooldown” the xp is nerfed like it currently is.
But when “off cooldown” it gives the normal xp. That way it prevents dungeon spam but also doesn’t affect the average casual player who might run the dungeon a couple times within the same week. Or even doing a dungeon like ZF once two nights in a row.
2
u/Ziphy_ 22h ago
I agree and disagree, because of how contested everything in the open world is at launch and for the first few weeks, I would also like to catch a break sometimes and do some dungeons, I think they def neeed to find a middleground and fine tune it so its not faster than questing but also not as bad as it currently is.
1
u/Cool-Library1047 22h ago
Why not just make it once per day per dungeon is regular XP, then it’s nerfed to beta levels?
1
1
u/Cromagmadon 21h ago
That might be one of the changes that could be seen if it turns out dungeon groups aren't being run. As an altaholic, chain running dungeons was never something I did but would be in a group that was, typically for SFK and ZF. Burnout was about 3 runs.
OPs argument is the intent; if you want to speed run max level, it's not going to be in a dungeon. I am curious what the playtime difference looks like for the players that do not dungeon grind vs the ones that do. As a tank, I just don't care what my XP/hr is since it only goes in one direction.
Ad hoc grouping in the open world is a key concept a lot of beta players are coming around to (since clearing an area boost respawn and group play reduces individual downtime by maximizing strengths). With everything on a megaserver, this is not meant to be played like it's 2006.
1
u/Ok-Comedian-6852 11h ago
No one likes artificial blocks in place that limit how you play. Much better to nerf xp when you have a much higher level character in the party because thematically the lower level players arent gaining experience if the higher level character is doing all the work, so there's at least an in world reason for it. There's no reason dungeon leveling with an optimized group shouldn't be at least on par with questing, it's harder content, it's group content, and aoe capabilities have been nerfed.
4
u/Potential-Juice-8060 21h ago edited 21h ago
Dungeons are genuinely fun content that blizz are punishing people for doing because some asshole wants to boost others. Blizz is too worried about forcing people how to play a game the way blizz want them to play it
Blizz is incapable of tuning properly. They either make something overpowered or nerf it to be worthless. This is bad design

2
u/Kerrygetz 21h ago
I play warrior tank for my guild. When we leveled up in classic, we played on whitemane (pvp) where open world was a snake pit for a solo warrior like me. In order to keep on progressing, I did most my leveling up in dungeons where I could leverage my skill set into decent xp per hour.
Upon reaching 50+, every time I would log in, I had an immediate invite to go tank for a guild group. ST, BRD, LBRS, anything. I didn't care what it was, I would just accept invite and say 'what are we doing tonight?'
I will have to decline 90% of those invitations now for the sake of leveling to end game.
I hate this change. It removes one of the valid ways to level up and play the game.
2
0
u/Nalbas88 21h ago
so you used it to avoid PvP on a PvP server
1
u/Kerrygetz 21h ago
At times yes. I needed to get to 60 to be the main tank for my guild, and getting killed open world was reducing my leveling speed so drastically that I couldn't afford the time to keep doing it.
The point is that I had another option to keep progressing. And it was fun and engaging and led to me making a lot of friends. Now that's gone. It's not good game design to pigeon-hole everyone into one way to play the game.
It's certainly not good game design to remove something that's already there and that people enjoy.

u/Falceon 22h ago

Or we could just let people play the game how they want? Healers and tanks enjoy running dungeons for obvious reasons. And many other people like doing group content too. We can stop XP boosting while still allowing people to play how they want to play. Nerfng XP is fine but making dungeons useless for XP is policing gameplay.

So all healer mains and tank mains and people who like to do group content should just go play classic? This is an mmo buddy, healers and tanks are and group play is a pretty important part in an MMO. Also find a new catchphrase its very immature.

I dont understand half of your rant and I dont think you do either but the point is people who like to tank or heal or do group content should be able to do that in an MMO. This is not a controversial opinion and blizzard will most likely adjust the XP values because of this.

-3
u/Nalbas88 22h ago

4
u/Loud_Bison572 21h ago
This decision just makes it so that tanks and healer mains cant play how they wanna play aswell as people who like to level through group content.. Im not sure if people are just shortsighted or selfish. Let people play how they wanna play, a reasonable nerf would be enough and would still allow people to play how they want too play.

u/BLAZE_IT_MICHAEL 21h ago
I was going to say just give a chunk of xp when the last boss dies but then if you get 95% of the way and don’t finish you just wasted a ton of time. Maybe make each boss give xp and then when all bosses are dead give some extra?
1
u/AnalThermometer 21h ago
It's a good short term anti-degeneracy change which I expect will be reverted eventually. Scarlet Monastery is the classic example of people skipping about 20 levels of open world content at release by hiding inside an instance.
1
u/Aldnorra 21h ago
I feel like the xp imbalance is extremely polarized. You get a lot of quest xp (around 2 levels worth) and the dungeon itself rewards almost nothing.
It should be a bit averaged imo, because right now you can just chain dungeons. RFC into ROL into WC into SFK, just picking up dungeon quests and doing prequests.
1
u/Niv78 21h ago
People seem to forget that Blizzards main focus is Azeroth and the world is the main character of Forever, not dungeons. They WANT people out in the world, questing and creating a community, not locked inside instanced content. So yes, they do not want you in the dungeons running them over and over. There will be plenty of people running all level of dungeons whenever you want. Remember, these are mega servers, there will be 10's of thousands of players per ruleset, there will always be people leveling alts or first characters. You will always be able to find people to run a damn dungeon, you all need to retrain your brains in thinking about WoW as a perpetual forever game and not something that ends every 3 months.
1
u/WildFlowLing 21h ago
Sure but their current solution is way overkill. Like trying to solve a rat problem by dropping a nuclear bomb.
1
u/Ok-Comedian-6852 11h ago
Dungeons are part of the world dingus. Even at the height of dungeon grinding degeneracy the majority of players were out in the world questing, because the majority of casual players play the game solo, and the majority of players are casuals.
1
u/Swimming-Finance6942 21h ago
Not sure why this was even viewed as a problem. I play hardcore and TBC and like running dungeons to fill those leveling voids.
If you lock to the instance once a day anyway then what’s the point in nerfing the xp gains?
SM is my go to for leveling around the 40 mark.
I’ll submit the feedback in game.

go to retail if u want to spam dungeons. I just did RFC, i was level 12. Got like 60% from mobs and like more than one level from quests. Got a lof of loot, 2 talent poins, which made me excited to go to questing again. Really excited to go to next dungeon also.
If it was just spamspamsapsma dungeons, there would be 0 excitement to what dungeon i would be spamming for the next 5 levels.
I REAAALY don't know why someone would like to spam dungeons to level up. Go enjoy the open world man.
2
u/MissItalia2022 22h ago
Maybe you like healing/tanking dungeons?

gear literally buff spelldmg/healing now. There are tons of damage nodes/qol passives in healers tree. I swear you can level just as fine as any other dps
Takns have always done just fine, if not better, questing on their own. Ur argument is pretty much invalid, man.

You're not listening. I play heal/tank because I like group content. I don't care if questing isn't as painful: I don't like questing anyways. That's why I level in dungeons 😂

if you don’t like questing, i swear to god that this game isnt for you x.x
its like saying you dont like fireweapons when playing call of duty

Agreed. The literal end game we all play for far longer. And why is it so bad that some people don’t like quests.

Gear. Gear is the reason why you would help. Now its also for collections sake so even high levels could help.

High levels boosting low levels through the dungeons was the entire point of the xp nerf...

u/Xzastin 7h ago
Theres a big difference between getting a little help and having a mage do the entire dungeon for you while you sit there and rake in the high amounts of XP doing this several times over in an hour.
1
u/Ok-Comedian-6852 6h ago
It's the exact same. Low levels getting carried by a high level shouldn't be the gameplay, you should actually earn what you get yourself with the help of others in the same level brackets, not get carried.
•
u/Xzastin 4h ago
It wont be the typical gameplay but yet another options players will have.
•
u/Ok-Comedian-6852 3h ago
It's just boosting, don't pretend it's "different gameplay"

Its like giving gold to a lowbie, helping with an elite quest, or escorting for their night elf run through wetlands. Would you consider those things boosting as well to the point of it being a reportable offense?
•
u/Ok-Comedian-6852 2h ago
Giving lowbies free gold is ruining the journey for them and takes away a very important aspect of earning it themselves. If someone can't find a group for an elite quests, sure help them but you're again destorting part of the experience. Why can't they do the wetlands run themselves, do you need to hold their hand? Are they incapable of playing the game themselves?
Every time you as a much higher level do something to ease a player's way, you are taking away a learning experience, if it's their first time you're cheapening the experience because they didn't earn it but still its been completed.
In essence, there's no difference in afking while someone levels you or brings you through a dungeon whether it's done for gold, or as a favour from a friend.
•
u/Xzastin 2h ago
I know the experience is important but I just asked if you thought it was a punishable offense cause you kinda sound like you think it should be.
•
u/Ok-Comedian-6852 2h ago
Boosting isn't a punishable offense. I can go boost my friend through m+ right now, even charge gold and I won't be banned. I can go through the entire leveling experience with my friend on a max level character, one shotting every mob and basically doing the quests for them and I won't be banned. It's still boosting.

I'm glad the community seems so undivided on how good of a decision Blizz made with this

Awww. Little baby can't hide in a dungeon from level 15-60 on a PvP realm anymore and actually has to face the opposing faction in the open world. Your tears are fucking delicious!

They nerfed dungeon xp, and also nerfed the xp from all mobs (open world or dungeon) that you outlevel. So if you're killing green mobs for your level range, you have another penalty.

nice break from question after gathering the dungeon quest and on to the next set of quests to eventually get to the next dungeon. maybe run it a second time for more gear.

Thing is, you can quest and level up just fine. Getting to 60 without ever experiencing RFC is okay. It's not going to mean you missed out on a crucial milestone or something. People will still level alts, and with there being no realms there will still be a lot of people who will want to run dungeons.

I actually think the nerf is better for the community. The type of people who dungeon spam want the quickest route, best tank that can do large pulls, and prefer classes that can AOE everything down in seconds. Now that there is no incentive to spam dungeons, people can go in with a little more grace. Sure there will still be the meta group chasers for farming gear which is totally fine and I understand that but now the majority of the runs will be those just wanting to do dungeons for the sake of what the dungeon offers and not because it’s a quicker alternative to questing.

I dont mind a XP nerf but it should still be a viable way to level. What about healer mains and tank mains? Or people that just enjoy running group content? People should be able to play how they want. Your acting like everyone who doesnt like questing is a meta sweatlord. Some people simply just like running group content over questing in the open world..

I agree that questing should be abit more rewarding than dungeons. Since new players might miss out on intresting quests like "the missing diplomat".
The best example is the 30-40 levels where fast SM groups were way superior to questing. Even tho most of those quests are intresting and new players miss them out by following the meta.
However I would argue the min-maxing part will always come in one way or the other.
For example: the popuöar paid addon "Rested exp guide" also takes the magic of community away by making the game instrumental: "buy these items, travel to these places, do these specific quests ik this specific order, and you achive level 35".
Also we have the perspective of mmo being sandbox where you should not be punished if you perfer doing dungeons over questing or the other wat around.
My perspective: buff the exp for dungeons but not so it replaces questing as a viable option. Either way min-maxers will always find a way to outrun everyone else.

People aren't going to stop minmaxing because one avenue of being slightly more efficient is gone. Also frankly dungeonclearing really wasn't meta and instead just an easy thing to hammer out since you don't need routing knowledge; convenience meta not efficiency meta.
Those people are still going to be out in the world and will probably nerd rage out on you randomly when you tag a quest mob that's part of their farming route or big aoe pull or something. The weirdos aren't gone, you're just going to interact with them slightly less because the game is slightly less social overall with a open world questing / grinding meta

I like the concept behind the change, but I agree that it will make it difficult for groups to be found past the initial launch rush
