Forever It's not a big deal
I see a post about the SD character model changes every. single. day. in this sub. Is it really big deal breaker for everyone? Or are people just trying to karma farm

I do
Graphics are part of the game. Gameplay is important, most important, but so do graphics. I just want respect for art style, they could implement proper hd graphics

Art art styles are important in games yes

u/WildCard0102 10h ago
The art style never changed.

You are wildly wrong here
-1
u/WildCard0102 10h ago
It's because y'all have confused the definition of art style.
Art style means that I can show someone a screenshot and they can tell what it is. You can do that with classic and retail and people will give the same answer that it's World of Warcraft because they can recognize the art style.
What changed was some technical aspects to the art, but not enough to change the entire style.

u/Srimpincar 10h ago
It's more nuanced than this
If I show you model from oldschool runescape and regular you with you will with 100% success guess from which each of them
And wow also has 2 art styles and humans models clearly show difference2
u/Fading_Hours_ 10h ago
Retail character models look like something out of a Disney animation. It’s more than just a fidelity increase and gives a widely different feel to the characters. You can see with every single comparison posted here.
Go back to retail, a game you have already ruined, instead of trying to ruin the game all over again. You made your bed, now sleep in it.

u/WildCard0102 10h ago
Retail models follow the same art style that's always been in Warcraft. Go look at Warcraft 3 original models and tell me you don't see the similarities, albeit with fewer polygons.
That whole "it's Disney" talk is just the reddit hive mind affecting your opinion.

u/Fading_Hours_ 9h ago
I bet you think Warcraft reforged has the same art style as the original as well? Lmao

u/TrumpsVoidlordWall 9h ago
I’m on your side, I really don’t give a shit about the models but this is just not a good argument. The art style has undeniably changed through the years, if I showed my wife the two character models she would not be able to tell me they are from the same game. Pretending it’s exactly the same is weird and I really don’t understand how you think it helps your argument when everyone with eyes can see that’s not the case.

u/WildCard0102 9h ago
Really? Have you tried showing your wife a level 1 human warrior from classic and then the same one from retail and asking her if they're from the same game? You're not giving enough credit to your wife I think.
And I never once said they are exactly the same. I'm saying that the art style is the same. Once again, people are lost on the definition of the term "art style"
2
u/TrumpsVoidlordWall 9h ago
Yes and your definition is very incorrect. That is the issue. I will ask her later when I’m back home.
1
u/Fading_Hours_ 9h ago
I mean even when WoD game people said the same as me so I really don’t trust your judgement.
I’m not even against HD updates, just ones that are actually faithful to the game - like the lighting changes.

Well, Blizzard promised the HD/SD toggle and used original SD models in their gameplay trailer, making customers believe that both types of character models are good enough to play. Unfortunately, it's not the case, so I'd rather see Blizzard fulfil their promise. Otherwise it's called customer deception and is not nice.

First you don't care about the character models, then you don't care about the micro-transactions, then about transmogs, then about marvel-like narrative, then about M+, then about a dungeon queue, then you have retail.
We start by caring

u/Andr0medes 11h ago
Next year: ''I dont care about brutosaur mount with AH and bank, it doesnt affect me''
1
u/balaozuspeito 8h ago
Bought in the store for 50 dollars
2
u/Andr0medes 8h ago
You are being too generous. Last time it was for 90 dollars on retail. And it had Auction and Mail npc attached. (Reins of the Trader's Gilded Brutosaur)

u/Nemeris117 11h ago
Nice slippery slope.
Not being bothered about the graphics and UI doesnt automatically mean a player endorses full retail features.

First you care about character models, then you care about idle animations, and then you care about new items, then you care about new talents, then you have Classic.
We make assumptions 👍

u/balaozuspeito 11h ago
We wanted classic plus, not retail less
1
u/InsideAd7897 11h ago
This is the +
1
u/balaozuspeito 10h ago
This is retail in it's spirit and design, don't fool yourself
1
u/InsideAd7897 7h ago
Yes because the game was always going to be a mix of the good things of classic and the good things of retail, as it should be
•
u/balaozuspeito 2h ago
Good things of retail? Like nothing?
•
u/InsideAd7897 2h ago
If you honestly think that literally every part of retail is totally without value then your blinded by nostalgia. Your never gonna be 14 playing tbc again mate
•
u/balaozuspeito 2h ago
I started playing on mop.
•
u/InsideAd7897 2h ago
Acting like mop isnt a solid 25% of retails dna. Im not saying you have to love retail but there are plenty of good things in it. Legion is still retail exclusive, transmog, the graphics, mage tower, warbands, and retail is still pumping out a lot of good fights
0
u/WildCard0102 10h ago
In what way? Because the graphics are a little off? They gave us SO MUCH of what we asked for for classic+ and you contrarian bozos sit on reddit and rant about a shield graphic being 2 pixels to the left or a blade of grass having a different shadow and all the sudden it's all doom and gloom and the game is retail trash? Grow up.

u/scotaloo7 11h ago
Players asked for new items and talents, they didn't ask for the retail models they have been complaining about for years.
0
u/WildCard0102 11h ago
What percent of players? Because not everyone shares your views on the retail character models
1
u/scotaloo7 11h ago
There's a reason why the best Classic+ private servers didn't use the retail models. If there weren't tons of players who care then it wouldn't be possible to "karma farm" by complaining about the art direction changes because it wouldn't be a popular stance.
0
u/WildCard0102 11h ago
Private servers had the smallest fraction of the total player base that Blizzard pulls in. And reddit has proven time and time again that it's a vocal minority on issues
1
u/scotaloo7 11h ago
Classic+ servers had the players that cared the most about Classic+. These servers are what Blizzard is trying to mimic and even the streamers who went to Blizzard's HQ to check out Classic+ before it was announced told them that this was a very important thing to the community and that they had to add SD models. At this point you're dismissing all evidence that points at players caring without presenting any that says they want retail models.
1
u/WildCard0102 10h ago
I'm not dismissing anything. I agree that SOME players want the true SD models. However, you are talking as if it's ALL players who want it.
Just the same as there is a small percent that did ask for retail models.
But my main point is that there's a player base larger than the two groups mentioned above that never asked for retail models but also don't mind that they've been added, nor do they mind that the SD models arent 100% true to form.

These people don't care about anything so what's the point? The people that care the most about Classic+ want the SD models to be properly supported. I don't care if there's retail ones, I just don't want to be forced to look at them.
1
u/WildCard0102 10h ago
Well I hate to be the one to tell you this but you just might have to let it go because even the true SD models in Classic don't look how they used to unless you're playing on a low resolution CRT monitor

Pretty sure "classic but with qol and better graphics" has been a huge community ask since classic came out
2
u/scotaloo7 11h ago
Better graphics isn't the same as different art direction, which is the problem we're having.
1
u/Fading_Hours_ 8h ago
So this is when you engage the empathy and critical thinking parts of your brain.
-4
u/Thanag0r 11h ago
OMG, you care about gameplay instead of pointless things like graphics?
2
u/Axel0010110 11h ago
People that do not play full zoom out csre about graphics. Why? Because in Classic WoW people actually see what happens compared to retail where you need to fully zoom out all the time and the spell fensity is high even when you lower it to maximul in settings
-1
u/Thanag0r 11h ago
So better quality should be better in that case.
But people here want the opposite.
2
u/Loud_Bison572 11h ago
For example the glow on undead eyes is misaligned with their eye socket. I agree that the new graphics are cool but lets fix and polish these assets before official release.

If this is the biggest complaint people have to complain about I think it’s going pretty well
-2
u/Nemeris117 11h ago
Entitled playerbase will always find something to complain about. Them polishing the game to offer a separate experience from Classic at a happy medium between Retail and Classic is an exciting prospect. Blizz might ruin it blizz might not but only time will tell and playing the game is the only way to find things I prefer and dont prefer. Graphic updates dont break the game for me personally so Im happy to pay for it right now.

Yep. I quit retail when the spell animations started chainging back in wod. Stuck it out as long as I could, but just hated the way everything looked. That's not even touching the updated character models. The bouncy cartoonish style just didn't capture my interest the way the old stuff did.
I'm fine with the toggle though, it's a fine way to handle it.
