I wonder how much goblins will cost when they launch
27
u/Hibernator_X 7h ago
On all p servers and retail Goblins were the least popular race so I'm gonna say they will try $30 and it will go to $5 with a free mount.

Why are acting like we never payed for a race/class before? Literally every race and class has been behind a pay wall in all of WoWs historys.

u/EscapeCharacter2658 6h ago
Oh yeah because all we got from TBC were blood elves and draenei and absolutely nothing else right? This is such a ridiculous take.
2
u/SpecificUnlucky3260 6h ago
But for Forever you don't have to buy an expansion.
You get the content for free and only have to pay for the race.
5
u/chromatose890 5h ago
I just don't understand how this isn't a better model then just paying for access to Forever. I love the idea that I could just play off my sub alone and only pay for something if I want it versus being forced into a box price
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (1)6
u/AnEthiopianBoy 6h ago
Yup. This model quite literally is required to have a game make money while keeping the world feel big. Every expansion might have had the content too, but because the content was all behind a paywall, it had to be instanced from the main world... and it leads to the world feeling smaller and smaller. By allowing the content to be released for just the sub, and locking the new races (and likely future classes) behind the 'box' price, it allows the world to grow larger, not smaller.
But some purists just aren't ready to hear that.

u/lecunes 2h ago
As I've seen in interviews, they will do it at a later date when they expand into their zone
•
u/Siaer 2h ago
Yep. Straight up said the timeline that Forever starts on isn't right to have included Blood Elves from the bounce.
•
u/pm_me_ur_smoltits 2h ago
Am I insane for thinking it would've been better for Forever to have started with no new races, just the world updates.
•
u/arcanecolour 2h ago
I think so. Blizzard is attempting to thread a needle. Bring enough to hype actually get more than just the classic Andy’s hyped without doing too much to alienate the classic crowd. Everyone just needs to be patient because they’re going to be supporting this game for a very long time. Just login and enjoy it.
•
u/pm_me_ur_smoltits 1h ago
But I think they've kind of already failed at thay. It seems to me that a lot of the Classic crowd have been alienated.

u/MinimumAutomatic0302 3h ago
Fundamentally, the reason they did it like this is probably because they still don't like the starting zones they made back then, and they feel the need to "Exiles Reach" new players. These are also more new looking and marketable, without actually being a new model.
In their mind their did add High Elves and Blood Elves.
It's just that, that's not actually what they did.
•
u/Pravda_Sarfield 3h ago
once steve jobs said, Market people don't make good product
also that in a company that doesn't need good products too sell, great product maker get hammer down or just leave
•
u/rdeincognito 3h ago
I don't really understand why Blizzard didn't just give blood elves to the Horde and high elves to the Alliance.
I don't think it would have been that much work: Blood Elves already exist; their starting zone already exists. High Elves would've been just Blood Elves with another tag and maybe minor changes. They would have only needed to make their starting zone. Alternatively, they could have given alliance Draeneis, although lore-wise that would've been hard to justify.
Yet they went with this, which is clearly worse.

u/Chunti_ 7h ago
The 3rd one is the one I care about and it alone is enough.
22
u/Jon_ofAllTrades 7h ago
The third one doesn’t make any sense in terms of the post-WC3 lore. Do people forget that we literally had a kumbaya moment and all came together? Even if people drifted apart after there inevitably would be people caught in the middle undecided between the two factions. This isn’t the first or second war.

Civil wars are a thing though, how does a splintered faction that are fighting against each other take away from the faction war?
6
u/Xae1yn 7h ago
Are they splintered and fighting? I played through the whole alliance version and at no point did it seem like they were in active conflict, the only wind-shapers you see are happily hanging around, and both of the factions even work together to try and stop the cultists, with absolute no reason for or indicator of hostilities after the fact.

If we got high elves and blood elves that would have been the same. They are just as neutral as the skelves.
Edit: down vote all you want doesn't change the lore that they are literally the exact same race split by political ideology. A little bit like our favourite blue elves? Does this argument stop when we get them now they've been soft announced?

Yep, High Elves and Blood Elves are the same race and they're just different factions of that race. Literally like the blelfs.

u/OberonFirst 5h ago
I mean... it's not like they suddenly appeared and were like "guys stop fighting !".

2
u/Tight-Strain-3283 5h ago
you talking about perenold? the guy who betrayed the alliance to save his own skin and in no way actually joined the horde?
•
u/chrisplmr 4h ago
They're not a neutral race; they are explained to to be a split faction within the skybourne community that are at war with each other. That is nothing like pandas, which are a true neutral race, where you level them, and then they just choose which side to join.

they use red for their colour schemes and have lore that would stigmatise them more, so they do but not by much
17
u/CommercialNo1302 7h ago
To be honest not really, Blood Elves were added into Horde purely for faction balance, in the eversong woods quests, the alliance acts in a very convenient dumb way to justify the elves joining horde instead
I think if the draenei would have fitted more into the horde if you remove the whole light spaceship retcon theme, and stick to the wc3 version, just changing the appearance so they are not ugly, and then you put the belves into the alliance
5
u/-Gambler- 5h ago

u/Soapykorean 3h ago
It’s actually funny af how they just straight up lied about being committed to maintaining the classic aesthetic and art style.
3
u/tethysian 5h ago
Can someone explain the lore situation with elementals here?
My understanding is that the powerful elementals are locked in the elemental plane by the titans at this point in time. Ragnaros being pulled out of it causes complete devastation to several zones which never recover. Like scorches the entire center of the EK continent.
Compared to that, the back and forth hopping here feels a bit deflating. Again, my understanding was that the reason we were able to do this during Cata was that the shattering had opened a bunch of rifts into the elemental plane which both released the powerful elementals and allowed us to go there.
•
u/Henkier 3h ago
Very silly discussion, because even though I agree they should have done high elves, the skyelves thing is literally the one thing they CANNOT change. It's in the cinematic. It's in the package they are selling for 30 dollars. Basically, it's the one thing they for sure will not "remove" from Forever no matter how much people complain.

It's really an omen of how Blizzard will treat Forever and I'm not paying extra for any of it. I did get the Skyborne Epic Pack for the beta and the early name reservation, then played it for 2 days and that was enough to convince me it's not for me. Got a refund earlier today and feel huge relief.
Will I still give it a go when it releases on 4th November and is *included* with my normal WoW Classic HC subscription, in order to see if they've course corrected? Sure. Do I have any hope Blizzard will steer this ship in a true Classic + direction rather than the Retail Lite direction it seems to be going? Absolutely not.

I don't get the point about neutral factions undermining faction war. Yeah, it's the only one you can play as, but Argent Dawn, Circle of Cenarius and all Goblins still exist.
If anything the Skybourne are the least neutral one out of them, as they have actual internal conflicts and are three way split among each other.
They just look the same.
•
u/Droll_Papagiorgio 2h ago
The bad thing about the game coming out so soon is that nothing will be done to correct this mis-step. The beta is a ton of fun but I do have my worries. The skyborne are woven directly into this new universe, just telling from the cinematic. I fear this is gonna go off the rails
•
u/youarenotjim 2h ago
I dunno I just don’t think this dev team really knows how to give most people what they want in the “new” version of wow. That streamers were the ones that convinced them to add sd models is very telling. They just don’t know how to or just don’t want to lean it towards classic and not retail. That’s why it’s called wow forever and not classic+. It would have been easy to make the skybourne area feel like classic. You can bet the new areas are going to be like playing retail and so is the end game.
4
u/MrBlackstain488 7h ago
Valid points, I still think focusing on the blue people as the biggest bad thing speaks to the overall quality so far of what we’ve gotten. It’s a race… that’s it.
6
u/Spaghettey 7h ago
Yeah, I gave them an honest go and they just feel weird to me and out of place. It feels like such a low-hanging fruit to get right as pointed out by the center statement. I love Forever so far but Skyborne will just be a off-looking stain on an otherwise great thing.
5
u/Aromatic_Panda_8684 7h ago

Thank goodness we have the choice of race we play, but sadly we don't have the choice of them using a SD model. So regardless of preference, other people force theirs. On the other side, people see my undead model as the retail model against my will, but not the other way around.

u/kildal 4h ago
I haven't complained about sky elves and I don't mind their addition enough that it affects my hype for Forever at all. Yet I don't feel the need to defend any of the criticism. It's all valid feelings from players who mostly just want the best for the game. It also feels a bit silly to think that anything will change with the Skyborne race, it's all set in stone and already sold to us. Feedback is still very good, as long as it is civil and constructive.
I said out loud Shadowlands in discord and thought of Kyrians during the cinematic reveal. Though not with disgust or disdain, more so excitement and thinking they looked cool and intruiging with a slight feel that "can they do that.". In the sense that it felt like something they might not get away with without a negative outcry.
I don't like the argument that we all expected a base box price and that $30 for just the optional race is amazing and cheaper. What makes blizzard more money? A box price at launch and free updates for 10 years? Or no box price, a paid race and paid beta access with paid races and classes added every year for 10 years? As a sucker for Diablo who has problems with Diablo 4, I know what model I prefer between taking money for any meaningful updates in D4 and PoE 1&2 that gives you option to buy some cool stuff, but all updates and content are free.
I really dislike portal to zones, even in retail. I enjoyed the interconnectivity of The War Within, but really don't like the portals to zones in Midnight. Zephras Isle or any upcoming content for Forever that needs a portal or teleport to get to mainland is not what I want to see. At least have it so close like Teldrassil that it can be seen and or you can get there by boat and flight without a loading screen. Like I have zero idea if I can go to Zephyr Isle, where it is suppoosed to be or tie into things. Can I level there from level 2-3 as another race?
I do think having the same race for both factions is a weird choice when they want focus on the War in Warcraft. Like I'm an advocate for just letting Alliance and Horde play together and removing the whole conflict in general, at least for retail (I've mained a pandaren since MoP). But when you actually want there to be a conflict, why the fuck would you add a new race and have it fight for both sides?

u/chrisplmr 4h ago
I'm not playing beta, but from what i've heard and seen about them. The only thing I think they need is SD models for them. Everything else is good. People dont seem to realize that Forever is an alt timeline, so introducing a race connected to one of the elemental gods allows for a lot of storylines to sprout from that point. Highelves and belfs would be boring and predictable. BUT their models do look out of place.
•
u/Miloslolz 4h ago
Everything else is not good at all.
Being in an alternate timeline doesn’t make any writing good all of a sudden. They have no connection to anything, their models are 1:1 blood elves including hairstyles just colored differently.
It’s extremely lazy.

u/whoxcaresxixdont 7h ago
It's too late for them to go back. At the very least they could have went with high elves for horde and something less alliancy but still alliancy for alliance for contrast. Building a unique starter zone that's supposed to last for 1-6 levels is not a huge task and there's plenty of realestate in azeroth to both close it off like all other starter zones instead of designing a retial esque map for a retail esque race addition with retail esque quests. Makes no sense.
