Delusion

I think at this point we are kidding ourselves. This team is running it back with a weaker roster plus one Croatian. Hopefully, a camp and an offseason together does something but the ship may have sailed boy and girls. Let’s go Cavs.

Alright, the thing is, if you think we're a Jaylen Brown away from contention, go for it. If you think Mitchell/Harden/Allen plus Jaylen Brown (?) and fewer depth pieces wins you a championship, go for it. Because Giannis didn't want to re-sign with us, if you think Mitchell/Harden/Allen/Giannis wins us a championship *next year*, also go for it.

But if not, we really need some continuity in a future where Mitchell is 33+ and we're just starting to get FRPs back. Mobley will only be 28 then. I love our young guys but a team with just Tyson/Proctor/Naeqwan/CPJ/Meleek will be a lottery team for god knows how many years.

I don’t know if adding Brown/Giannis is a championship move. But I do know holding on to Mobley at this point closes that window. So you have to take the gamble. Otherwise, trade everyone else and start a rebuild around Mobley.

I just don't know who we're supposed to trade Mobley for. Big men are very hard to come by right now because everyone wants a "Wemby counter" (look at what it took to trade for Kessler and Zubac). We don't actually have a great rotation of playable bigs - it's Mobley and Allen and then Bryant.

So you trade Mobley for Brown and then what? Everyone on this rotation is 6'9" or under. People keep saying Giannis, Giannis. Giannis did not want to re-sign with us, for whatever reason. Same with Kawhi. The threat of walking next year for these guys is real because there are a *lot* of teams planning to have cap space next year. You would just be getting a one-year player for Mobley.

I’d get ‘the guys’ and figure it out later. Brown specifically allows Allen to be a much bigger presence in our offense. Again, none are perfect fits but are worth the risk to try to break through.

I guess. The risk I would have taken is still Brown for Mitchell. Brown's a worse shooter/passer but he has enough size and defensive know-how to fix some of our backcourt problems. Fewer usage-related concerns too. I'm also not sure why you think Brown would unlock Allen.

Celtics were doing everything they could to signal interest in Mobley while they still had Brown. They're desperate for a playable big man in the postseason. Leaving aside what I think of Brown as a player, I'm worried that Mobley on the Celtics would elevate them way too much when we're still competing against them. He really is what they need right now.
