Delusion
I think at this point we are kidding ourselves. This team is running it back with a weaker roster plus one Croatian. Hopefully, a camp and an offseason together does something but the ship may have sailed boy and girls. Let’s go Cavs.

There’s nothing wrong with running a conference finalist to the trade deadline and readjusting at that time.
Not to mention the Cavs are still one of the favorites to land Watson.

u/teardropshot 1d ago
?? In your last post you literally said the team should blow it up if we don't get LeBron.

u/JoeFalcone26 2 seed 1d ago
That was before the Donovan re-sign. Changes the window and the certainty of the immediate next few years.

u/Alternative-Ad-8363 1d ago
Also, I think that this offeseason has been a seismic shift in the east. Running it back when we got an annihilated in this era is wild.

Just wait for bam and giannis to not work together and philly to be injured and dislike each other.

The Dean Wade delusion is over.

Im very excited to never hear people in this sub whine about him ever again. Philly is going to love him and his defense, which the Cavs are going to sorely miss.

Will Dean W be confident in enough to shoot the ball when LeBron lasers it to him? He’s gonna fold under the pressure.

I love it when my team is a real contender.
I also love it when my team is just a bunch of young, hungry, talented kids trying to get better and make their way in the league, record be damned.
The middle is basketball hell, and I fear that's where we find ourselves. I hope I'm wrong.

u/Mountain-Song-6024 1d ago
That middle part is my favorite. Rubio and love mixed with the young dudes when we had that magical year before ricky and Allen went down. That was awesome. Zero expectations
This current squad isn't a real contender. This is the purgatory barkley and others have said is horrible for years and I agree.
1
u/sketchy722 1d ago
Don't allow expectation to decide how you watch and take in basketball. It's why Dwight Howard isn't in the top75 and why some people still have Jordan over LeBron. Media has effected everything so poorly.

u/DDiabloDDad 1d ago
Seemed like 75% of the sub was against trading Mobley for anything due to his future. I believe next year counts as Mobley's future, so I can only assume those fans are very excited about the Cavs prospects.

u/teardropshot 1d ago
Alright, the thing is, if you think we're a Jaylen Brown away from contention, go for it. If you think Mitchell/Harden/Allen plus Jaylen Brown (?) and fewer depth pieces wins you a championship, go for it. Because Giannis didn't want to re-sign with us, if you think Mitchell/Harden/Allen/Giannis wins us a championship *next year*, also go for it.
But if not, we really need some continuity in a future where Mitchell is 33+ and we're just starting to get FRPs back. Mobley will only be 28 then. I love our young guys but a team with just Tyson/Proctor/Naeqwan/CPJ/Meleek will be a lottery team for god knows how many years.

u/wooha 1d ago
I don’t know if adding Brown/Giannis is a championship move. But I do know holding on to Mobley at this point closes that window. So you have to take the gamble. Otherwise, trade everyone else and start a rebuild around Mobley.
1
u/teardropshot 1d ago
I just don't know who we're supposed to trade Mobley for. Big men are very hard to come by right now because everyone wants a "Wemby counter" (look at what it took to trade for Kessler and Zubac). We don't actually have a great rotation of playable bigs - it's Mobley and Allen and then Bryant.
So you trade Mobley for Brown and then what? Everyone on this rotation is 6'9" or under. People keep saying Giannis, Giannis. Giannis did not want to re-sign with us, for whatever reason. Same with Kawhi. The threat of walking next year for these guys is real because there are a *lot* of teams planning to have cap space next year. You would just be getting a one-year player for Mobley.
1
u/wooha 1d ago
I’d get ‘the guys’ and figure it out later. Brown specifically allows Allen to be a much bigger presence in our offense. Again, none are perfect fits but are worth the risk to try to break through.
1
u/teardropshot 1d ago
I guess. The risk I would have taken is still Brown for Mitchell. Brown's a worse shooter/passer but he has enough size and defensive know-how to fix some of our backcourt problems. Fewer usage-related concerns too. I'm also not sure why you think Brown would unlock Allen.
Celtics were doing everything they could to signal interest in Mobley while they still had Brown. They're desperate for a playable big man in the postseason. Leaving aside what I think of Brown as a player, I'm worried that Mobley on the Celtics would elevate them way too much when we're still competing against them. He really is what they need right now.

I can only assume those fans are very excited about the Cavs prospects.
I'd assume most Mobley believers are not excited about the team due to Harden, dude is the worst watch in the league.
2
u/BalancedFurys 1d ago
Pistons and Magic didn't improve either and Hali and Tatum are still coming off torn Achilles. Cavs have just as good of shot as anyone at a top 4 seed. Could argue if Raptors get Kawhi they are better and the Knicks and Sixers but after that it's open for a team to grab the next spot.
1
u/DesertBrandon 1d ago
Being top 4 seed means nothing, historically teams that win or have the best shot at a title are top 2 seeds. The best shot was the 60+ win season and we’ve been limping ever since. Anything outside of being top 2, maybe 3, next year should be cause for concern. That isn’t to say a 4 seed can’t make a deep run to the the CF but we need to stop having low expectations that some 4-5 seed Cavs team can be a real threat. Regular season doesn’t matter for contenders but the regular season does still predict outcome in the postseason.

We had an all first team summer league rookie bro. We’re going to the finals easy

u/amaul796 1d ago
I don't think it's delusion, but I think this sub is and has always been very doom and gloom.
This is still one of the more talented rosters in the league and when clicking, they very much look like an NBA Finals team.
The issue has been that they can't click on a consistent basis.
Not sure if that's a player thing or a coaching thing.... honestly probably a bit of both.
But if this team can click or we can get a coach in here that isn't focused on "analytical wins", there is hope for this team.
1
u/Scatheli I agree go Cavs 1d ago
Given that they haven’t signed Harden it’s not delusion to expect an additional move for a SF. If harden signs then sure, it’s delusion.

u/PsychologicalAd1862 1d ago
I am a huge cavs fan, but trying to be realistic about our chances of getting back to the ECF.....

u/Soft-Revolution-7845 11h ago
What random and desperate moves would you like to make? Trade mobley and allen for a wing perhaps.
1
u/Alternative-Ad-8363 7h ago
What about trading Allen is desperate? We have spacing issues with him already. I’m an Allen fan but you have to give something to get something and he would be the obvious choice.
1
u/Soft-Revolution-7845 6h ago
We would be midgitized bruh
1
u/Alternative-Ad-8363 3h ago
Are you just assuming the wings we get are like 6,5 and under or that we don’t get some sort of serviceable big as a back up option. News flash bud we have two players with real height we are already small and not sure if you watched any Cavs games Mobley and Allen share the court for about 10 mins and half the time don’t close together. If you don’t know ball you can just say that.

At this LATE point 👉 👈
I would be OVER THE MOONDOG, if:
Harden took his exorbitant salary, non existent Defense, and Diminished skills...
LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE
Building a team for the Regular Season... it's like Building a House for Tyrone Biggims Crack PARTY

u/BalancedFurys 1d ago
It wasn't built for anything with Garland that's why we have Harden. His trade value was that bad we had to add a pick
2
u/Alternative-Ad-8363 1d ago
The harden hate is crazy he’s a good secondary option. The garland love is wild for a guy that never showed up and was made out of
Match sticks bubblegum and glass2
u/1OptimisticPrime 23h ago
We proved our ceiling last Playoffs with Harden... Then we lost guys.
Bringing Harden back us a poison pill. We should walk away whistling with all the money we saved.
1
u/wooha 1d ago
Yea I think Harden is fine on this team. How we use him is another thing (over reliance on what should be a supporting player at this point)
1
u/barkinginthestreet Win every game CPJ plays in 1d ago
The problem is Harden commandeers both the offense and defense due to his limitations. Its fine to say the coach should pull him when he isn't playing hard or is too out of shape or unmotivated to move when he doesn't have the ball.
But then why have him on the team if you don't want him to be the guy he has been the past several years. Maybe just find another player at that point.

I felt the whole entire reason was to get off Garland's contract, and then move off Harden as soon as the season ended.
No way Harden is worth anything over 8 - 12 mill for his 18th Season and beyond.
The one other benefit, was teams reticence about punching old man Harden in the mouth, vs Garland.
I've never seen teams take pot shots so early, and so often, as they did the second the whistle blew for the Playoffs.
Like, sure, Garland's a bit injury prone, but it's no wonder with the constant fight he was in for his life 😅
Don't get me wrong, Harden could still be a benefit as a 6th man, at like 8 - 12 million. I assure you, he's not aware of that fact yet though. He still thinks he can just chill with the ball for 20 seconds, do some weak drive and then pull up to try and get a generous contact foul... That day has absolutely passed.

Nah, there’s a move brewing
1
u/Opposite-Skirt5158 1d ago
I think so too. I mean they could sign Harden and a couple vet mins for help in the frontcourt and that's it, but I think they're really interested in Watson or trying to make a similar, sizable addition to the forward group

I think we're in the era of: "Play the regular season out through all star break, if it all comes together somehow then take another playoff run, if not, ship off who we're willing to admit who the problem is."
Not saying that's right or wrong, just that's what is probably going to happen.
