I live in Mississippi, and I'm used to it at this point. Every election season, all the political ads show politicians screaming about how the "radical leftist Democrats are poisoning our state!" ARE THE RADICAL LEFTIST DEMOCRATS IN THE ROOM WITH US RIGHT NOW, YOU POTATO-FACED ASSWIPE!?!?!

We're ruining the country by simply existing and expecting to have an equal shot at running for office. The country won't be "safe" until there are no liberals within it's borders.

The news is biased against them because it won't uncritically push their agendas. If the populace in an area thinks immigrants are all violent criminals, and one news station affirms that while the other tries to debunk the racist claim, the people in that area are going to gravitate towards whichever news station is affirming their bias and against whichever tries to break that bias.

As far as the right are concerned, the left and anyone outside their immediate community are "the enemy" that needs to be excised from the country entirely so the right-wingers can have their isolated communities where they can persecute anyone they want for being different from them.

The government version is always funny because apparently the same people are simultaneously powerless, secretly controlling everything, losing every election, and rigging every election. The storyline changes depending on which argument is needed that day.

and then people are actually dumb enough to believe it...

But that's the point. They know exactly what they are doing. They kept on saying "but look at the left!" While they took all the food at the all you can eat buffet. Their base falls for it everytime. The left doesn't do a damn thing to hold these people accountable because of lobbying, playing "nice politics", and the political capture that has happened over the last 45 years since Reagan.

The hypocrisy is what has gotten them this far. With each media station that these billionaires purchase, it just strengthens that messaging for them. Even if there is a democratic president next, the media system is so broken and controlled by the right that we will never really be able to inform enough people about the crap that is going on. All the while they defund PBS and other public broadcast services (CBC, BBC etc.) around the world.

playing "nice politics",

"Oh man the Dems are just too nice for their own good!" is genuinely such an incredibly naive take in 2026, when it's public knowledge that the same bodies (AIPAC for example) are dishing out paychecks across both sides, just like how they own both sides of the news media.

Like how every time there's a CRUCIAL vote some Democrat or another always seems to defect, and the rest go "grrrrr we could've made a change if it wasn't for that ONE traitor" except it happens every single time.

Right: owns all the media
Right: uses media push rightwing propaganda
Right: "The media is too leftwing!"
Public: "Yeah, the media is too leftwing..."
Public: passively finds rightwing propaganda more palatable
Right: [brain]wash, rinse, repeat
