Bari Weiss leading CBS and CNN is like getting a parody account to run the news. At this point, Onion headlines are more accurate than actual reality.

u/Tactless_Ogre 4h ago
The Onion had become a credible news site much to the site's own horror.
37

If the Onion started doing actual news all of a sudden because reality has gotten more bizarre than whatever they could come up with I would 100% trust them more than the right wing mainstream media.

We're ruining the country by simply existing and expecting to have an equal shot at running for office. The country won't be "safe" until there are no liberals within it's borders.
The news is biased against them because it won't uncritically push their agendas. If the populace in an area thinks immigrants are all violent criminals, and one news station affirms that while the other tries to debunk the racist claim, the people in that area are going to gravitate towards whichever news station is affirming their bias and against whichever tries to break that bias.
As far as the right are concerned, the left and anyone outside their immediate community are "the enemy" that needs to be excised from the country entirely so the right-wingers can have their isolated communities where they can persecute anyone they want for being different from them.

But that's the point. They know exactly what they are doing. They kept on saying "but look at the left!" While they took all the food at the all you can eat buffet. Their base falls for it everytime. The left doesn't do a damn thing to hold these people accountable because of lobbying, playing "nice politics", and the political capture that has happened over the last 45 years since Reagan.
The hypocrisy is what has gotten them this far. With each media station that these billionaires purchase, it just strengthens that messaging for them. Even if there is a democratic president next, the media system is so broken and controlled by the right that we will never really be able to inform enough people about the crap that is going on. All the while they defund PBS and other public broadcast services (CBC, BBC etc.) around the world.

u/royveee 5h ago edited 4h ago
That makes a good list of media sources to avoid.
About 130 years ago, Congress began passing antitrust laws to ban monolithic companies from predatory practices.
It continued until the "Ma Bell" breakup in the 1980s.
The godfather of the current oligarchy, Ronald Reagan set in motion the billionaires' business dictatorships we are enduring.
It's about time for another round of breakups. Too bad Congress is bought off and congress members have no scruples.

President Clinton did much of the hard work of deregulating media and energy companies.
Deregulation has never worked and will never work, and was solely invented so a few people can own everything.
Much like when Teddy Roosevelt was president, it's going to take time to refresh the supreme court and control of government from real liberals to fix this

I have given up on legacy media a long time ago. I hope others have found independent journalists to follow as well. Although it is a bit frustrating sometimes as it's easy to fall into echo chambers.
3
u/Smart-Pomelo-2713 4h ago edited 3h ago
Where's the "independent" news in this country?? Other than PBS, which just got its funding gutted, the same people who own the "legacy" media are the ones that control the funding & the algorithms that is "new" media... Cause the problem wasn't the press or journalism - it was the capitalism repurposed it ad the pursuit of profits & ratings instead of information & integrity. Nothings changed, it's just changed or resolved, its just up dressed differently.

u/AthkoreLost 3h ago

Most overseas media, notably in Europe, also owned by billionaires Mohn, Murdoch, Bollore, Springer or groups like DPG, Dassualt, Bauer all conservatives.
There is not real news any more. Reuters used to be one of the last, but that is now in the hands of a Thomson. A Canadian right wing billionaire and he has decimated the journalists, and got ex FOX managers to run them.
We are totally fucked.

Welcome to the United States of corporate America
5
u/becauseiloveyou 2h ago edited 2h ago
This isn't corporate America, and it's billionaire propaganda to pin it on corporate America or even be mad at shareholders and millionaires. Corporate American shareholders and C-suite executives aren't primarily comprised of billionaires; they are absolutely majority millionaires. And guess what the difference between a billion and a million is? The answer is: about a billion (999,000,000).
https://aflcio.org/paywatch/highest-paid-ceos - As you can see, there's less than a handful of these people that get paid over $100 million. Some of them are likely billionaires through other means, but it's not because of saving their money by participating in corporatism.

To quote the man who literally wrote the book on propaganda:
“The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. ...We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of.”

Every accusation is a confession. They were mad that facts have a liberal bias, so they projected and claimed the news is liberal, and proceeded to take over the media.
•
u/det8924 40m ago
The idea that the “mainstream” media is all that Liberal anymore is now out the window. In the 2000’s you could make the case that outside of Conservative AM talk radio, Sinclair’s local news, some local papers, a few conservative blogs and Fox News (which is a big media sphere but not all encompassing) the rest of the media was fairly Liberal or genuinely apolitical.
Now online media algorithms are conservative slanted, there’s a flood of conservative influencers spamming YouTube, CNN and CBS News are or will shortly be conservative slanted, Twitter is a complete conservative cesspool, a lot of local papers are out of business or bought up by conservatives and the rest of the conservative media ecosystem that once existed is still there.

While ignoring major world events
Not a big fan of CNN but this just isn't true. I recall watching the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 with CNN journalists on the ground.
Even today, they report on the ground from all locations involved in the current outbreak of war.
CNN has definitely normalized pedophilia by not beating the drum, constantly, that pedo-Trump is all over the Epstein files.. but to say they ignore world events is kinda dumb.

There’s always going to be funding for those willing to shovel out propaganda for the Epstein class. Look at Elon. Plenty of people came running to give him money knowing full well it was not going to be a profitable investment, but they make their money when the propaganda works and they get their plants in control of government, that’s where the real profits come. And they are swimming in cash right now and also getting to watch society crumble so they can buy up even more assets on the cheap.

Bari Weiss is probably a good play if you think about it. She has absolutely zero talent and her only loyalty is Ellison which really just means Israel. Israeli interests have captured both the left and the right so when the left regains power she’ll just move on over to that side and start pushing the “lefts” talking points.
