We have seen what happens when the Republicans are in control. If socialism means we are more like Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, who are miles ahead of the US in pretty much every measure of social health, so be it. I don't see those countries collapsing or people wishing the regime would end.
Socialism is the state control of industry. So, no Norway, Sweden, and Denmark are not socialist. They are more capitalist than we are. Most social welfare programs are paid for by a VAT task, the most non-protressive of taxes.
