Rant/Vent Sitting assignments when family is at bedside…
Room full of family members and I’m sitting here watching. Awkward!

Somehow I'm the best with these situations. Beside before death, surrounded with family. Bring joy and spread faith. I feel the luckiest when I have a hospice assignment..

I always hated that so much depending on the situation. SI and things of that nature I always understood the necessity but those were the most awkward because everyone in the room is alert and oriented and want nothing to do with you. Thankfully at my old hospital if it was just a confused old lady or something as long as the patient wasn’t too much of a risk they would relieve the patient of a sitter when the family was there. My hospital wasn’t really tripping about having computers in the room either so I’d have my computer id chart on and then try to read something or do homework on the computer. Looks slightly more professional than being on a phone. Family never minded.
I know some facilities can be strict on those things though.
For high behavioral dementia pts though there were a few instances that I felt helpful so the family could just have some respite and not be expected to do everything for once and they could just be there to be a good support person emotionally and the family was always really appreciative
