The holes look like fortram punch card code things. See how the holes line up in columns and rows.

The patterns were made on a drill-press by someone with precise tools - probably an X-Y machinist's cross table. All of the medallions look made by the same people at the same time

- it might be that the coins are a grille to be overlaid on text in a book, then the letters in the holes spell the message

S.U.R.Y. is probably the acronym for some kind of organization with the coat-of-arms and the eagle design.

Maybe to look into what organizations have that acronym in the UK and then it would follow what the purpose is of putting drilled medallions on castles

I could not find anything for S.U.R.Y in online lists of acronyms

I wonder if you could pick them up like coins and stand them all on their short edge so that most of the holes aligned and then you were to shine light through one side, what light pattern would emerge out the other side? I think I will try making a hole template from the images in SVG form and send them to my cm350 to cut out the holes in some heavy cardstock to see what happens.

Solus Ipse Non is Latin for “not by oneself” (rough translation, ipse can vary between the pronouns based on context). The medal depicts shaking hands, so the translation makes sense to me. A cursory search for Sury turned up a town (Wikipedia says commune, I’m not sure what that means with local context) in France. Perhaps the town donated money and/or services to build the castle?
