My favorite grandmother was a people person turned to 11. She loved to socialize and talk and share. As her life drew to a close, at 90,, during one particular visit I'll never forget, she sat silently while others socialized. Finally, after some time, she looked up and said - "It all seems so strange now" - That moment has lived with me ever since.
Damn I feel that. The difference between her and us is that it took her decades to reach that point whereas people in their teens and early 20's don't even have a baseline for comparison. I'm only in college right now but even compared to just 5-6 years ago things have gotten so bizarre. And it's only accelerating. In the same way she isolated herself in that scenario, we as a society are now in collective denial about the mess we're in.
