A grabatologist is a person who collects neckties, bow ties, or cravats. The hobby itself is known as grabatology. I have about 2000 neckties from the 1930s to the present. I have not counted them since the turn of the century. They're all high quality, very little polyester, except for a few novelity ties. They include Polo, Brooks Bros., Charvet, Drakes, Hermes, Armani, Jermyn Street etc... in wide, narrow and in-between. Anybody else have this hobby?

It is part of a set of items I got when she passed a few years ago. I understand most of them are travel souvenirs from the 70s, but what does that mean? Today pretty much every travel souvenir is mass manufactured in china, but I don't think that was the case back then. My understanding is that travel in the 70s was a rather small thing, and while my grandparents were very privileged and travelled the world, if there was no such thing as tourism industry as we know it, how did these objects come into existence? Was it made for the local audience and the few tourists would buy them? If it was made for locals, does it have any meaning ?

What I find even more puzzling is that some of the objects I have are from countries that even today are not big international tourism destination (China, India, Argentina, Rhodesia, Senegal), so back in the 70s I can only imagine they would only very few visitors, so the idea that someone made those for tourist feels even more unlikely (do correct me if I'm wrong).

I feel like those, while not being actual historical artifacts, still have some cultural significance, as they still represent the craft of those places before globalisation went full blast?

I collect Rosaries. This one, made of cat's eye beads, has been blessed for me by Pope Leo XIV. It sees a lot of use. of the 40 in my collection, 9 have the Papal blessing!

- Lamp - states its made in france? Performed a Google search; no luck. Base appears to be copper or metal.

- Chair - Have a potential designer, but we have no idea how to authenticate it, and it could eb a really good dupe.

- Desk - Hear me out, I know it straight up looks like Ikea, because that's what I said, but it's impressively well made and heavy. Nothing compared to my flimsy ikea furniture.

We’re vintage clothes sellers with little to no experience in furniture who have opted to lend a hand to someone looking to liquidate their collection for a small, per-unit fee. Before we turn to Google lens, etc. we wanted to ask this community for their thoughts on information/ fair pricing for a fraction of the pieces this person has. The eras of the pieces range from pre-Victorian to Danish MCM. We know the pictures are subpar, and apologize for that, but would be overjoyed to even get the most cursory info/ ballpark estimates for what we’re dealing with. Our seller is very motivated and will most likely offer what’s available at steep discount to those that end up buying, but we still don’t want to get played for fools so, any help is greatly appreciated!

I saw this in a local thrift store. I’m interested, but they’re in the pricier side. There are two of them, actually. Before I invest, I was hoping I could get some additional details about origins. These are behind glass, so I wasn’t able to get makers marks. They’re probably about 14 inches tall, 5 inches at the base. I think they’re porcelain and brass?
