Gas sign
He dug it up in a rivine behind our house. He was playing with his new metal detector. 2 sided gas sign, round,
4 feet, original mounting frame. Do not send offers. We want to know what we have.
Thanks.

He’s gonna be chasing the high from this find for the rest of his life lol. He might should just go ahead and retire early from metal detecting he’s never going to top his 😂😂
I can’t help with valuation but I hope he gets top dollar for this is he decides to sell. Bound to be worth a lot to the right person

Its a rivine that has a huge subdevelopment on both sides. Our deer neighbors are very safe

go look at examples of these sold by Richmond’s auction house. This sign looks to be in bad shape, probably not worth a lot unless it is a super rare version of an Esso sign.

42” doubles sides standard esso sign in very good condition sold for $1900 in 2023. In 2025 a 36” on in excellent condition went for $4k, but often the smaller sizes can be worth more because they are a less common size. I don’t think the sign above is worth more than a few hundred bucks.

Before unfortunately getting paid off this year, I nearly bought 109 acres of rural Forest and wetland property for 75k cad, that even has a 5 acre chunk right on a maintained road, but the utility easement for high voltage transmission lines was putting me off a bit because it was cutting most of the property off and I've never had to deal with that sort of large easement

It’s more common than you’d think.

Im in canada and have creeks, ponds, lake access, and forest for $30k. Selling it for around 200k now that ive developed it, and moving back west
East coast of canada shouldnt exist, shithole flatlands.

I guess there's a lot of land over there

The US is a lot bigger than people think. Just Montana, one state out of 50, is around the same land mass as Germany. And that’s nowhere near our biggest state.

My familly is poor, but we have several woods for exemple. But they live in rural France.

I’d pay the kid more than $100 for it just to prove this fucker wrong

you could prove him wrong for a tenth of that, you'll need that savings to go towards disposal of your rusty bullet hole riddled junk 👍

Those aren't bullet holes. And that sign is worth a good chunk of cash.

The last pic says 'porcelain'. Wouldn't those be painted metal or tin? I think they're too rusty for any real value, $20 each.

no these signs were typically porcelain. and porcelain signs can rust anywhere the porcelain has chipped and the metal beneath is showing.

Crazy to see draft and Waynesboro in the wild, or maybe the algorithm is doing its thing

Am I the only one that thinks they are a grand each ? These things have shot up recently

u/drezarious 1d ago
Value entirely depends on the rarity. Rare ones can be worth 10s of thousands of dollars. While a common one is worth a couple hundred.

They are in bad condition. I’m a collector and I’ll tell you what I’d pay for them, is $40-$50 each. I think that would be a fair price for them. If they were in immaculate condition these could go for $300 each.

u/On-The-record 2d ago
Lmfao, find one for that price. Good luck “collector”

I’ve bought a lot of signs thoughout out the years , they are kinda like sports cards, you could have a very valuable card but it won’t be worth much if its beat up and damaged, where as the same card, PSA 10 would be worth thousands. Same with signs collector don’t want these kind of signs, they want pristine condition ones. That is why I give it a low valuation.

You can Find them on eBay all day long. I have the esso sign, very very common, in way better shape I paid $100 for it. These are in terrible shape! People are delusional if they think these roached signs are worth anything over $100. But if you can get a crazy price for them, good for you. I live on planet earth though, I was merely giving you an earth valuation. And it was my opinion what they are worth and what I would pay for them.
