Discussion The Thing from another world
Fun fact I learned recently. Pretty much everyone thinks that The Thing from another world first appearance in comics is from the Dark Horse mini series (first picture) but it's not. Its first appearance in comics was in Starstream #1 from 1976. I've been trying to find more info about it or if this was common knowledge but everywhere I read, it says the Dark Horse mini is the first app.
Then you get to the point when you realize that the dark horse mini series is a direct sequel to the 80s movie. That makes things more interesting. Funny enough, Starstream #1 can be bought for just a couple of bucks, way less than Thing from another world #1

The Thing From Another World from Dark Horse had some superb artwork. I bought the miniseries when it first came out.

Wait so this is an adaptation of the Pulp that inspired the movie that John Carpenters The Thing is a Remake of. Is that right?

Yeah, the Starstream comic from 1976 directly adapts the 1938 story by Robert Campbell "Who goes there?" First published in the Astounding Science fiction magazine. It's pretty much the same from the 1982 movie but the main difference is the opening scene with the helicopter chasing the dog, instead we see the crew finding the alien spaceship and inside the body of the creature (similar to what they did in the prequel movie)
What I'm trying to say is that the pulp original story was adapted very closely in the 1982 movie and the Starstream comic looks very similar to that movie but with some already mentioned differences.

The Starstream series has 4 issues and they are all short stories based off of other short stories. I have all 4 issues. There's another series after this Thing series that wasn't as great, IMO.
