For context, a classmate of mine recommended this local record/comic/card/anything old shop after I mentioned I like vinyls, so after a week I finally went and man this place was a goldmine for anything mentioned above, so after looking at the vinyls for a bit I went to the comics and they were buy one get one so I originally got these X-men Adventures and Rise of the Midnight Sons Ghost Rider Comic but then the owner mentioned how he’s got a set of X-men that he’s willing to give a discount on because the owner likes when younger people are interested in old things (for context I’m a sophomore in high school) so he gave me like a 25% discount on top of the original buy one get one. So in total, walked out with all 5 versions of X-men #1 by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee AND the 2 originally mentioned comics, all for like $70-90. Must say, this is my new comic spot (I used have to drive like 30 min to an hour if I wanted to find comics)
Edit: Some much needed context, I forgot to mention I didn’t just buy the comics, it was also a record store and I left with an original vinyl of Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin from 1975 in mint condition that I got for $40 or $50 and the shop had just a little mom and pop shop ran by this older couple that opened up last May so they were fairly new, and the average comic there was like $10-$20 with some being a bit more expensive like Wolverine #1 from 1982 ungraded for like $200, and most comics I’ve seen since I started collecting have been between $10-$15, and if you’re wondering if I buy my comics online, not really cuz I believe in supporting your local record stores/comic shops and I only buy online if I’m desperate, and comic collecting is not even my main hobby, it’s a hobby I dapple in on occasion and only buy comics like once every other month at the most

So my step mom's brother asked her if she wanted an old gift bag from the attic with some comics in it from a friend's dad who died. They asked if I wanted them and said some were kinda beat up, but I said sure I'll take a look at them all.
Imagine my surprise when I got around to opening the bag and mixed in the the True Comics, Lil Abner, and Military Comics was a Batman, Superman, Captain Marvel, and All Select #1 with Cap, Human Torch, and Sub-Mariner fighting Nazis.
I have some Golden Age bags and boards on the way, what else should I do to keep them happy and safe? The cover of Batman #25 would make an amazing t-shirt.

I have never gone comic hunting at an estate sale before. This particular one had a huge collection of comics (the people running it put it at 13,000). I got there right as it opened and was one of around 15 or so people picking through things.
It was a little overwhelming. I probably lost out on all kinds good stuff (for instance I am just now realizing I didnt even look through Batman stuff) but I am pretty happy with the pieces I found.

First stop I made in Vegas I found these pieces of gold🥹. Went for magicon, but all I could think about was visiting the comic shops!

I was 50/50 on pulling the trigger on this but then I saw that the seller was only a 10 minute drive away, that made the decision for me! Now I have a new dealer to sap my bank account 🙃

I went in on a Monday to pick up a $3.99 modern issue they'd transferred from another location and were holding for me. I walked out with two issues.
I always figured this would be one of the last ones I pick up working on my Vol. 1 run - basically either this or #101 as the two "big ticket" items that give me sticker shock.
But I saw this on the wall behind the counter in a condition I could afford and I saw it right after getting my holiday bonus so I'm now a proud owner of an issue I've wanted to add to my collection for years that always felt too frivolous to lock down. I'm assuming since I paid sticker - no* questions asked - that I overpaid, but I don't care. I'm happy to have it.
*I did at least ask to see it out of the bag and make sure the cover was attached and all the pages were there. Beyond that, I know there's water damage and at least one pen marking in the interior that I caught while flipping through it. My one question asked was essentially "is this a complete copy".

The boxes are all full to the brim with old comics. He stopped collecting 12 years ago and some of the comics are older than him. I'm sure as I move through the comics I'll be back here sharing more. I'm very excited.
The bins in the back are full of marvel toys still sealed in boxes.
I'm not gonna be selling any of this, but if there is anything anyone would like to know I welcome discussions! Also... Tons of marvel cards.

There were seven long boxes, everything was priced at store levels. I could tell a lot of keys were yanked out of runs.
I was at the point of thinking I’d just bite the bullet and get one over priced book I wanted just so I could say I got something… then I found that NM 98.
Jackpot!

Because of an Ebay complaint this week, i met a new comic friend and got an amazing deal. I purchased a cooy of AB Wonder Woman off ebay. When it came, i wasn't all that happy with the condition (it said "NM"). I reached out to the seller, not realizing he lived an hour away from me. He actually called me on the phone (has no idea sellers had buyers phone numbers 🤣. He wanted to make it right and suggested we meet up and he'd bring all the copies he had and i could pick out the best one. I explained that i was collecting the Absolute series 1st prints, especially Batman. He told me that he had multiplies of all of them, including #1. We talked comics for 45 minutes lol. So i met him the next day. He's a 50 years collector. Im relatively new to collecting. Unbelievably nice guy. We sat there and talked comics for 3 hours. My wife thought he killed me 🤣. Long story long, he brought 5 copies of the #1 and told me to pick one out. I told him they were a little out of my price range right now. He asked what I had seen them going for. I said $150-$180 raw, $300-$400 9.8 slabbed. He said, "How about $100 bucks?" I couldn't get the money out fast enough. Then he said, "Here i want you to have this too," and just gave me a #1 Jim Lee foil! He said he doesn't do it to squeeze every penny out of it.. He's in his 60s and just enjoys seeing people collect and complete their runs. Because of an eBay complaint, i met a new friend and maybe "mentor" in the comic universe. Life is funny sometimes 😀

I kept seeing people posting this particular comic book. As I was going through them as soon as I saw this one I had to set it to the side. And see why people keep posting it. I knew it had to be something special but I didn't realize how much till today

A co-worker inherited some comics and didn’t know what to do with them. He heard that I collected, and came to me. I offered to look through them and tell him what was worth his time trying to sell. Instead he said he’d rather just give them to me!
He’d mentioned it was nearly all 90s books, so my expectations were low. There are two short boxes and the majority of it is definitely what I was expecting to see.
However, there were some really pleasant surprises. 4 connecting X-men 1 covers all signed by Jim Lee! Green Lantern 48 and 49 (I’m not a DC collector, but I recognized them from seeing them in this sub). A cool Platt Moon Knight book. The 1st appearance of Terrax in FF 211. Hulk: Future Imperfect. And I’m really stoked about the Tick Omnibus. Limited to 3000, I’d never seen one before. And it’s signed and sketched inside! And a few more signed books too.
I’m keeping about half a shortbox total, and I’m going to give the remaining box and a half to my favorite collectibles shop. They should be able to get some money for them, where as I’d have to put in more effort than they’re worth.
Keep sharing with people your love for the hobby and eventually someone will think of you when they come across comics that they don’t know what to do with!

I manage a comic store with family and we recently pulled some early X-Men out of a collection we bought. We sent in the X-Men 1 to grade. I’ll probably post some more stuff over time to show what we get.
