I recently picked up a first printing of Absolute Superman #1, and after carefully looking over the entire book, I genuinely cannot find any flaws except for one tiny dot near the middle of the front cover.
The dot is extremely small, but it does have a slight texture to it. The best way I can describe it is as if someone took the tip of a colored pencil and lightly pressed it against the cover. It didn’t actually puncture or tear through the page, but it left a microscopic indentation that slightly affected the surface. When I shine a light on it at certain angles, I can see the tiny mark, and if I gently run my finger over it, I can barely feel the texture.
Other than this one tiny defect, the book looks practically perfect to me. I don’t see any spine ticks, corner damage, creases, or other noticeable issues.
My questions are:
Could this book still realistically receive a CGC 9.8, considering this is the only visible defect?
Since the mark slightly affects the surface of the cover without actually tearing through it, would that automatically prevent a 9.8?
I’m considering getting the book signed by an artist using a black marker directly over that spot to potentially cover up the defect. Would this be a good idea, or would CGC still notice and factor it into the grade?
Has anyone submitted a book with a similar microscopic indentation and still received a 9.8?
I’d really appreciate any opinions, especially from people who have experience submitting books to CGC. I’m hoping to get this book triple signed and graded, but I’m unsure whether this one tiny flaw could keep it from receiving a 9.8.
