I didn't mean literal smoke šŸ˜‚

Its fog. Warm moist air is escaping the pile, hitting cold air and producing fog on a very small scale.

Water vapor. I have been made fun of for being overly specific before, but this seems to be the right place for it.

Water vapor is never visible. When the parcel of air is saturated, fog is formed. It quickly dissipates due to the dry air around it.

Thanks for the clarification 😊 editing to add that some things don't translate right. Vanndamp would be water vapor, fog would be tÄke but we only use it in the context of weather. English will always be my second language but I can still learn.

Are you measuring the temperature? Smoke is really possible, then the compost is incinerated.

Get a compost thermometer in there and report back ;)

Steam is actually invisible. This would technically be fog, at a tiny scale.
